Review from Rowan U.
Went here when coming back from Quebec City to Montreal. It's a little bit out of the way, but I had seen a news article about these "canele" and just had to try them for myself.
Canele are a custard/pastry concoction shaped like little jelly moulds/cups - sweet but not sickly. I'm not sure how else to describe it. I like them, and like most pastries they are best when fresh. That being said, you can buy them frozen here which means you can stock up and keep some for later. I'll be going to get some more next time I'm up that way, just because they're so different and you can't get them in many places (I haven't seen them anywhere else).
The staff that were there only spoke French, but that's normal for Quebec City (and pretty much guaranteed outside of the old town area). It's really not a big deal, as it only takes a few words and gestures to get as many canele as you can carry.
