I always go to Chinatown to cut my hair and Mai Mai's is my favourite place. It's pretty packed so I recommend you make an appointment. Even without an appointment, the longest I've waited was half an hour, which is tolerable.
The atmosphere is somewhat lively; people are bustling around, Vietnamese or Thai music is usually playing or they'll have a movie playing.
I don't have a preferred stylist because they're all really nice and professional. They asked me what style I wanted after showing me a few Japanese catalogues and told me if it would work with my face shape. Everything from the shampooing to blow-drying was done with care.
I also had my prom hair done by Cindy. It was a beautiful half-up sweep with a ton of braiding (I think she put around 50 bobby pins into my hair, haha) that lasted way beyond the prom night. It was total of $20.
All in all, I highly recommend Mai Mai's. =)
