One of the ladies from a souvenir shop recommended this place, so we decided to eat here. The view is spectacular, so of course we sat outside even though it was pretty chilly. I ordered the Gammon Bacon Burger, tried the Irish stew, and passed on the Crimini mushroom burger...The burger was delicious! Very flavorful...usually the patty has no flavor so you need to add ketchup, but this was good the way it was. The Irish stew was not like a soup, but more like a lamb shank. It was pretty good. I finished my burger, which was a decent size. It came with a side, so I got the fries. Yum!

Really - you just come here for the view.  NOTHING ELSE.  You come here to sit on the patio on a nice day and drink some beers.  NOTHING ELSE.  The patio isn't heated, so only come here on a nice day.

Food was pretty standard.  It's pricey but it's standard for the location being right by the Convention Centre.  The only odd thing is that it's branded as an 'upscale Irish' pub - which is a bit of an oxymoron to me, really.

Beer selection is pretty weak with a lot of mega lagers.  I sampled most of their selection and didn't find a single thing I liked.  Shame.  Seriously - fuck Molson and fuck Guiness.

It's packed with tourists.  And not the 'good' tourists for you would-be prowlers, I was chilling here with a buddy on a weekend afternoon and all the cruise ships were in full motion.  So unless you like making out with someone with dentures, you need to hunt in different territory.

Lucky for us, there was some Euro League football on the TVs so we got a spot on the patio immediately while all the tourists were inside catching the game.  It's sorta got a sports bar feel as well.

As said, come here for the view on the patio.  Nothing else.

Great place to watch a Nucks game or relax after work.  The view is fantastic and the service is speedy.  The kitchen is massive and really clean.  An alright food menu, nothing out of the ordinary.

Large area outside and inside.  Summertime will attract a ton of cruisers, but who cares when theres beer and good friends!

Since I spend a lot of time in Coal Harbour area i've been to Mahony & Sons quite a few times both on my own, with a few friends and in large groups.

Over all the ambience of this location will blow you away.  Right in the heart of downtown  Vancouver facing the North Shore the view is amazing. Inside is a spacious well lit yet keeping old world style charm of dark woods themed Irish restaurant / pub.  Don't be fooled though as the key word here is themed because the style, location and setup is designed for mostly local tourists who don't want to venture too far into the city for a decent meal.

Mahony's features a decent menu stocked with typical pub faire but at a slightly more than average price for the daily diner. During my visits i've had the fish and chips, beef burger with side salad, beef dip and a unique item that was only around for a few weeks which was the turkey dip (probably the best item they had on the menu).  The food is ok, not great.  Portion size is fine but over time i've noticed (as have co-workers) that it's changed and some items like the salmon burger have actually reduced in size by 40-50%.

Where Mahonys fails is that they are quite expensive for the quality of product they put out. Often they can get quite busy between 11:45 and 1pm and don't mind to let you wait for 20-40mins to receive your order.

I do recommend this location just because of the view but I also temper that suggestion with don't expect the quality to match the price point.

Protip: Come prior to 11:30am or after 1pm if in groups larger than 6.  In that window is their lunch rush which may cause delays if you only have a1hr to get away from the office.  If you're in a smaller party you may still get a delay in food arrival due to party pre-orders that may have been started and bumped your order back.

Also order 1/2 salad and 1/2 fries with your meals you get a bit more food for your $ and the best of both worlds.

A "meh", but on the better end of the "meh" scale.
A "meh", because much about this place is average. The drink selection is not great. The prices, definitely not great. Most the food, is exactly what you'd expect from any average pub, and I've never experienced anything better than middle of the road. Not terrible, but for the amount of interior design and branding effort to simulate a more authentic Irish pub, it's a so-so as far as memorable experiences go.

The view is great, but who goes to an Irish pub for the view? Unless the food is amazing or unique. The patio and window side would then warrant repeat visits. For now, I'll have a beer at a social event there and then head out for a better option.

Mahony & Sons it in a bit of a hidden location behind the convention center which is inconvenient but kinda nice cause it weeds out the uber drunks that may just wander in off the street.

It's a really nice bar to just hang out with friends and have a few drinks. I was here on a Saturday night and it was full but a much more intimate feel then most bars and there was a live singer which I quite enjoyed.

I can't vouch for their food, but the service, vibe and view were all great in my opinion!

I have never been to this side of the Convention Center before. I remember when the Convention Center was opening this was not here. As that being said, this place is only considered to be a tourist spot or a place to grab a man and just go clubbing, knowing the man is not from Vancouver ;)

I enjoyed this place though, the food is sub-par but the bartenders and the chefs look hot. Oh, did I say that the guys who work here wear Kilts, except for the chefs of course.

Their menu is nothing different than a burger joint, except they have extravagant bar food. I will give them extra points for that as well.

Their bar menu is great. I would come here for a quick drink with friends, but nothing special here would attract me to come back though. Had a great time here, for sure their patio seats facing the river looks amazing. I hope this place grows as a resturant. And yes, this place is FILLED with tourist. You can tell, because they have big cameras and messenger bags.

So glad to see some funky new dining options around Canada Place.

Mahony & Sons  is a new, reasonably priced pub with some great food and good service.

First GREAT feature - it's location, location, location! views of Canada Place, Stanley Park, and the North Shore mountains. Plenty of great patio seating for scenery or people watching.

Next GREAT feature - an interesting menu with plenty of tasty options. I had the Irish Stew - a lamb shank in a delicious stew with mashed potatos. I loved it, and the other three in our party thoroughly enjoyed their food as well.

My only complaints? Well, mashed potatoes are not usually chunked potatoes. I didn't mind, they were tasty, but not really what I expected. Also, while they do carry Coke products, they don't have Coke Zero. Come on people, why is it that so many places only have diet coke? Pet peeve.

Great location, great food. good service. It's a terrific option if you are on the seawall in Coal Harbour and looking to relax with a beer and some decent food.

I've been to Mahony's a handful of times now and I am not without my complaints.

The first time we were seated in the front room in the back left corner. Unfortunately, I chose to sit on the bench which meant that being close to my beverage and food on the table was mutually exclusive from being able to get away from the table to visit the lavatory. Because of this, anyone needing to get up from the bench required everyone to move so the table could be adjusted, thus creating an exit. It was annoying and we've never sat there since.

The second time, the same group of us were seated deeper into the restaurant in an area mildly raised by a couple of steps near the bathrooms. The service was abysmal. The waitress came by less frequently than was needed, but her attitude was terrible and angry. Asking for a beer came with glaring daggers and a quick retreat, often so quick that others couldn't get an order in. There were no smiles nor any other pleasantries. I'm surprised that she wasn't yelling obscenities, throwing beer in our faces, nor smashing glasses against the tables. The demeanor of this one server had very nearly driven us away entirely.

The other times I've been there have been without issues, aside from blips of slow service (I don't think servers cover each other here when one goes on break). They have a good Irish beer selection (Guinness, Harp, Kilkenny, and Smithwicks) as well as some local favourites. While I'm still searching for a good place for Hoegaarden, I tend to get satisfaction with Rickard's White here.

There's a point of contention between a coworker and I. The beer menu indicates that they serve Mahony-sized pints. The glasses I've been served are the standard 16 ounce sized glasses, but the owner has stated to my coworker that they use 20 ounce sized glasses. So, straight from the horses mouth should settle it, yeah? Sadly, not, as I asked a server there on a subsequent visit as to what a Mahony sized pint is, and she told me 16 ounces. Personally, I think the owner was embarrassed to admit that a Mahony sized pint is simply that standard sized pint offering and is used just as a marketing tool. If they served 20 ounce pints, the pricing would be reasonable.

I've had the chicken strips, nachos, chicken clubhouse, and the bacon cheeseburger. Everything was tasty, but I wish the clubhouse was a double-decker sandwich instead of being served on a ciabatta bun. The nachos were pricey, but were large enough for a friend and I to share for lunch. The fries are seasoned and, I suspect, most people will really enjoy them, but occasionally I'll bite right into a caraway seed and curse the seasoning they use.

The fish & chips and bangers & mash that I saw hitting other tables looked appetizing, but small for the price. It's a shame, really, as the true pub food isn't the appropriate value here when it should be.

Mahony's is becoming the de fecto location for Friday lunches with my coworkers. While it's "good enough", the pricing and lack of Hoegaarden don't quite make it my ideal spot.

Yup, more proof that a great view = mediocre everything else.

Of course the location is spectacular. Corner spot with an unbeatable waterfront view of North Vancouver and the mountains. The place was pretty busy so I figured what the heck.

We arrived mid-afternoon and were looking for a snack. We shared the mahi mahi fish tacos, though what arrived was a weird interpretation. It was more like a sloppy fish cone wrap. Fish was flat, as was the veggie contents. It was very messy to eat, but in a bad way. I gave some feedback to the server, but she just brought me more napkins.

This kind of food might fare well with tourists, but not me. I'd say come here for a drink but their beer selection is kind of weak.

Great location with amazing view of Vancouver - such a rarity downtown but you'll definitely pay for it.

Being where it is, and what it's suppose to be, it was hard to pin-down the feel of the bar. Most bars, you get it right away: pretentious; sports bar; low-key ... Mahony & Sons is a mix of all three. There were guys in suits, and then there were guys in t-shirts and shorts.

Two highlights for me: Pimm's Cup & live music. The musician that was there on Saturday was a great sport and indulged our ridiculous birthday party with great music.

While it wouldn't necessarily be my first choice of venue, I'd definitely check it out during the summer when the patio's open.

Looks like Mahonies are popping up all over the city.  An upscale Irish pub, you basically know what you're going to get.

The pub is located on the NE corner of the Convention Centre.  The view from here is AWESOME, especially if you sit in the fenced-in outdoor seating.  They even have these umbrellas that are *somewhat* useful for blocking out the scorching sun.

The inside of the restaurant is clean as well, with a pub feel.  It was a bit too clean though.  The UK is a lot dirtier last time I checked.

Today I tried the New York Steak.  The steak was done a bit too well (I asked for rare), but the juices were retained nicely.  The vegetables were a bit on the mushy side, but you don't order the steak for the sides anyways.  The sauce was definitely unique (no idea what was in it).

The price is a bit high, at $16 for a sandwich and $24 for the steak, but you can say that this is in line with other restaurants of the same class.

This place you could say is like an upper-scale pub but with a reasonably priced menu that is not over price considering the spectacular location with stunning views.

This is a great spot if you're attending an event at the new conference centre or even in the area of Canada Place.

I ordered the Spicy Tuna Tacos - they were spicy alright. A little bit overdone for my liking my but how it was prepared with the rest of ingredients / sauce, was very tasty. I would order again except with less spice.

My friend had the spaghetti bolognese but it looked a little on the dry side. She enjoyed it nonetheless and she is a picky eater so maybe it had just the right amount of sauce.

    The view was stunning.

The only downside was the noise level. It gets so busy with mostly business men and loud music, even tucked away at the corners of the restaurant I couldn't hear my friend speak. I had to ask her many times to repeat herself and that was annoying for the both of us. Especially that she was in Vancouver out of town and I don't get to see her often.

Awesome view of the waters.  We were hidden away at the back in a private booth which was kind of nice.  But, it was difficult to get service.  Our waitress was difficult to track down.  It's lunch time and we have jobs to get back to, so it was not ideal to have to keep tracking her down.  I am more for tasty foods from overseas.  This food reminds me or boring tasteless food with no flavour.  It's Irish, so...just pub style drinking.  I had fish and chips.  It was okay.  Washed it down with a Margarita and it was allll good.  I like my food with a thousand spices.  Nothing wowed me except the view.

No need to order a Dark and Stormy, the weather had that covered. Not shining on the waterfront didn't hamper the flow of Mahoney and Sons tonight.  Game on.

The dry ribs were tasty and moist, squid firm but fishy, dips not too bad, fried chips very good and natchos got approval (why is guacamole so commonly an extra?).

Service was a bit uninspired but accommodating and efficient.

Wow! What a Location, and what a great Vancouver view of the North Shore and inner harbour. Mahony & Sons is located under the new Convention centre right on the Coal Harbour water front!

Nice upscale Crowd, Lots of TV's (watched the Habs beat down the Boys in Beantown)

We had the Mahony Plater $22, not a bad assortment of eats.

And the nacho's ~ very pricey $19 + $4 for meat and $3 for Guacamole.

It is a great view and it is totally reflected in the prices... No food or drink Specials, domestic BOTTLE of Beer $5.50!, Our group of Six, appies and Beer &wine $300! (Shaw is going to miss the $100/ nites at the Fog!)

Overall I don't think I will be back ... unless I am wandering downtown waterfront and had recently won the lotto.

I know I am the Scot in our group, but there is lots of places for a beer and sports that cost allot less, besides I live here and see the view everyday so I am jaded, Tourists and the Convention crowd will Love it and I think it will do well with them, just not us cheap locals

New Big Irish Pub in very nice setting. First visit, we loved it, despite cuckoo server and cool rather than warm, Irish spud soup... Then we saw the rest of the place! It goes and goes. Quiet areas around the back.
Second visit we set up shop in the back. Food and drink a bit pricy, but as a friend of mine once said, "what the hell!" How else are they gonna pay the rent and upkeep? The patio is yet to be, but when it comes about, look out; This will be THE spot for summer (summer has to come too, I realize)...

You can't beat the view of Burrard Inlet/North Shore mountains. The service was quick and friendly. They have a decent selection of beer on tap and the prices seem about average for a waterfront location. I had the beef dip which was good and you get a mountain fires with it.

The waitress said that they will be building some seating outside for the summer. It is a nice upgrade for the areas pub crowd that needs a change from the usual Lion's Head and Smiley's.

I'm sad to say this is one customer who will not be coming back.

My friend and I went to Mahony's last night on Canada day. We expected to wait as long as we did for a table, and we expected likely slow service because of the volume of customers, and we both waited patiently and were polite to the hostess and waitress.
However, I was very offended that after waiting 2 hours for a table, we had barely started eating our food and instead of our waitress coming by to check that everything was to our liking (which is standard for most *other* restaurants) she came by and gave us our bill. After that they rapidly cleared our table to the point where I lifted my drink up to take a sip and someone came by and took away my coaster. I felt like we were rushed out, if I had wanted to order a second drink with dinner or dessert afterwards, that wasn't an option. And I felt like our patience of waiting 2 hours was completely disrepected. We were not planning on sitting there for hours on end drinking and eating slowly, and it's very likely that once we saw them start to close up and turn on the house lights that we would have realized it was closing time and tried to hurry ourselves. Being the closest restaurant to the fireworks on Canada day is a good excuse for slow service, it is NOT a good excuse for poor service.

Other than the service, the food was alright. Nothing to write home about but I didn't have to send anything back. I was a little disappointed that I ordered TACOS and had to pay $1 extra for sour cream and they gave me barely a tablespoon of it. I don't know about you guys, but I always thought sour cream (and maybe salsa or guacamole) was pretty standard to get on the side when you order tacos. The food was pretty overpriced as well... $15 for 1 sandwich-sized taco cut in half and no side dish (no fries, no salad, nothing. Just taco.) is a bit rediculous.
