Mahone Bay Trading is a savvy little waterfront boutique specializing in upscale leather finds for the feet. Its crisp and lofty space allows lots of natural light, and a spectrum of well constructed footwear throughout.

The general style is more on the conservative side. Boots, sandals, clogs and flats are nothing too fashion forward, but assure the best of material and craftsmanship. Its all very tasteful and classic. Both men and women are accommodated; however, the women's selection is more fruitful. (The men's selection does offer a very nice collection of casual & dress shoes.)

What caught my eye were the beautiful selection of Frye Boots. Knee length Rider boots and cowgirl kicks in more colors than one! Some great styles, and even little Fryes for babies! ($65 a piece, Ay Carumba.)

Overall, this is a very nice store where quality comes first. And with quality comes a hefty price tag, so be prepared to drop some doh. Friendly, professional service, Mahone Bay spares no expense in its well tailored offerings.

I love this shop's incarnation in its downtown location, but the Bayer's Lake location on Chain Lake drive gets the Meh review from me.

I don't need staff to follow me around or give me too much help. And if you're busy, i'm happy to wait. No big deal. But if i am standing there with shoes in my hands, perhaps this is the time to end your personal conversation/get off the computer and see if I could use a bit of help.

The first time i was there I asked for help and was told that in the entire store of shoes, there wasn't anything in my size. Without checking, without getting up, she told me this. Hm. Anything is possible, I suppose.

The second time, the two staff members were engrossed in a personal conversation. I was the only person in the store and I was standing there holding shoes. This time I wasn't going to ask.

In both cases, I was the only customer in the shop (other than the person with me.)

And asking me, as I am on my way out the door if there's anything you can help me with? You have already helped me - to make a decision where to spend my $.

If you're looking for inexpensive shoes...walk on by, because you'll only find high end brands here. And what a lovely selection that is.   Clarks, Geox, Joseph Siebel and my favorite - Frye boots, for the cowgirl in me.   Of course, that's just the tip of the iceberg, so whatever your shoe desire from heels to runners, boots to sandals, this is the place to come for huge selections.

Staff is friendly and helpful and the seasonal sales will make that purchase a little easier.

Mahone Bay Quality Footwear is located along Lower Water St, in the Historic Properties Building.

This particular location I think has the nicer store, I just like the feel of the store. It carries all the brand names, Geox etc and has some pleasant staff.

I have never really found the staff at any location , over the top with customer service. This is still a great place to shop for some nice quality shoes.

I bought a VERY EXPENSIVE pair of boots here Sept 2010.  They were winter boots so I took them home and placed they in a closet.    When I pulled them out in Nov 2010, I noticed that the finish had worn off substantially and they had NEVER even been worn.   When I went back to the store they were very rude and basically said "tough luck" because I was past the 30-day return policy.    I paid over $300 for these boots and thought Mahone Bay Trading Co was a reputable store that would stand behind its products and do the right thing -- NOT SO.    The boots were Pinkalino's (a quality brand) so there was obviously a flaw in the boots to make the finish come off and I expect businesses to stand behind their product and fix problems like this.  I was also a regular customer there for years, but they lost ALL of my business because of their rudeness, disrespect for me as a customer and total lack of interest in fixing this problem.
