Wow. I found myself near Lunenburg late in the evening this past weekend and we decided to try Magnolia's Grill.
Everything was really perfect. The service is friendly but most of all authentic. They say it like it is and the conversation is friendly, not forced.
The food was incredible. I had the Fishcakes, which are the best I have ever had and my wife had the pan seared Scollops which we cooked perfectly. Both of us had a Caesar salad on the side which again was home made and just how we like it.
This place is worth the drive from Halifax, the fact that it is in as nice a place as Lunenburg makes it even easier. -

We stopped in for a quick bite while in Lunenburg around 6pm. We were seated immediately on the back patio even though the place was busy. The service was pretty good considering the place was busy,
We started with the Soloman Gundy which is squares of pickled herring with slices of raw onion on a cracker garnished with pickled red onion. It was very good but I will warn that is might not be for everyone. If you like trying new things then you might want to give it a try.
I had the gingered carrot soup which was delicious and very refreshing even though it was served warm. The flavors blended really well together and created a very tasty and unique soup.
My bf had the creole peanut soup which was unique and tasty. It need a bit more spicy to balance the sweetness of the peanut but it was still enjoyable.
We also had a couple of beers and enjoyed the beautiful view from the patio. Everything came to under $30 before tip-- so it was reasonably priced.
It's worth a stop over if your in the area.Listed in: O'Canada

Lunenburg is a lovely picturesque town and we visit it often in the summer. But I must admit, the biggest highlight for me is always lunch at Magnolia's. It's cute and kitsch - every imaginable salt and pepper combo lines every shelf and table.
Their chowders are awesome, their seared scallops even better and don't get me started on their desserts. I'm drooling and gaining five pounds just thinking about them - especially the key lime pie. -

We summer up here- this is THE BEST restaurant in the area.. And there are quite a few good places :) Great food, service, and ambiance.
Try the mussels, scallops, pan fried haddock, chicken curry and they have very good soups. -

Magnolia is a great place for lunch if you are in the area, but it doesn't have the comfort level I usually expect for dinner It's definitely a cafe (i.e., not comfortable if you sit for more than an hour) and I'm happy with it for it's purpose. Always have the peanut Creole soup, which I adore, and there is sometimes a pear and brie on a baguette that is seriously worthwhile. A lot of people rave about the fishcakes, I've tried most things on the menu over the years and recommend you watch for the daily special. That is, if you can pass up that wonderful peanut Creole soup...

Haven't been in a while, but I'm planning on getting the bride up this way STAT.I've fond memories of most if not all of the dishes mentioned afore, yet the real ultimate maritime foodie experience is to be had here in the form of the codfish tongues and cheeks, an occasional special which is not t be missed! You'll gain a new appreciation for the people and cuisine of this lovely province if you try this "Some Good" dish.

Delicious, made-from-scratch menu with a changing daily list of soups and desserts. The seafood is incredibly fresh and the spices and flavors are rich and varied. Beautiful setting in charming downtown Lunenburg.
