Review from Jeanette B.
Edmonton, AB
I have been attending MacEwan's Centre for the Arts campus for over three years now, and it's been a great experience. This is a unique, smaller campus in an orange building on the West End by Jasper Place. Yes, the area is shady, surrounded by porn shops and dive bars, but for some reason I like it, because this neighbourhood has so much character.
When you walk into this campus, you'll notice that its an arts school right away, because many arts pieces are constantly on display all over the campus, and they are always changing. My favourite one of all time was the little boy burried up a giant pile of cupcakes.
There are so many interesting programs at this school like design, music, dance, and journalism. I am in the Professional Writing program, and I have learned so much over the past 3 years. The instructors are awesome, and virtually all of them work in the industry, so they have real-world experience.
The library here is smaller, but it is a good place to study or get work done. There's lots of great books and magazines, including Bitch, The Walrus, and The Atlantic. It's also nice to have unlimited access to the Mac computers, which have all the Adobe programs installed.
The cafeteria isn't the best, and that is not because the food sucks (it's actually pretty good), but the prices are outrageous, but that is Aramark's fault.
If you're interested in any of the programs offers at this college, I highly suggest checking out the website and going to an orientation. The orientation I attended actually convinced me that the program what perfect for me. -
Review from Maria F.
My review will be much shorter because I haven't actually taken any classes at the MacEwan Centre for the Arts, but attended an exhibit here after my brother-in-law graduated from the faculty of design. That night at MacEwan was lots of fun! Firstly, it was extremely refreshing and interesting to communicate with creative people of all ages. Art campus students have eclectic interests and unique personalities, and boy do they know art! The exhibit I attended showcased the works of students from design and fine arts faculties. I got a chance to see flyers, posters, paintings, photos, short movies and even furniture created by MacEwan students. Allow me to brag a bit when I say that my brother-in-law's coffee table and lamps had a huge success, and caused quite the stir.
If I had the time and money to attend school again, or even take several courses for pleasure, I would definitely give MacEwan Centre for the Arts a try. I am sure that just like Grant MacEwan University, this school has wonderful instructors and has a lot to offer.
