Visiting Ottawa this past weekend with a group of 8 friends, we set out in search of a place for lunch. We wandered up Sparks Street and into the market. No seating to be found. We came across Luxe, and am I glad we did!
Our server, Owen, was great - he was friendly and polite, and just the right amount of attentive.
The food was amazing. Although the menu was only one page, they had a wide range of items, and enough selection to suit everyone's taste in our group. I had a roast chicken sandwich, which was delicious - you could really taste the brie!
I'm not sure why anyone would think this place pretentious. It was pretty classy, with really nice ambiance and beautifully presented food - so it was a pleasant surprise to notice the servers were wearing jeans behind their aprons. It said to me that it's a fancy place that doesn't take itself too seriously.
I'll definitely be back! -

Here is the thing. I went once and I remember that it wasn't bad food, service ok. It lack something or it pretent to be something. Would i go back? No. But I could be wrong. At your own risk or should I say that I am on the fence

Review from Charles S.
So I'm back in Ottawa for a conference, and 14 of us go to Luxe for dinner. 11 guys and 3 women (who were very good sports). I suggested Luxe since I had enjoyed it so much last May, and I figured that steak (plus some seafood) would appeal to the greatest number of people.
My mistake. I can't speak for the others, but this time the NY strip was overcooked, had a thick strip of gristle, and arrived lukewarm. At By Ward Market prices? Forget it.
On the upside, the atmosphere was pleasant and football was on the TV in the bar. The waiter was fine with 14 separate checks.
Have any other non-Canadians noticed that when Canadian Yelpers like a restaurant, they often write that it "did not disappoint"? I'm going to write this in English as clear as a lake in upper Ontario : Luxe disappointed.Listed in: Ottawa and Toronto

Review from Jamison U.
The oysters were over priced but good, with fresh horseradish and ample other condiments.
I was sure that being in a city with 'Le Cordon Bleu' would assure me a good French onion soup. Well maybe not, this was an 'ok' soup but not good, and it was not French onion.
I am not sure if its a Canadian thing (my comrade was not off put by it) but bacon is not an ingredient in Caesar salad. The salad was good quality (great bacon), good lettuce, great croutons, not a Caesar salad.
I finished with lamb chops, nice silky lamb cooked to chef's preference. I always order it like that and know it often means rare-medium rare. In this case it was all of the above. 5 'frenched' chops ranged from well-rare, I really doubt that was the intent or the preference (I wish it all had been as mostly rare as the end parts, they were nice.)
Overall over priced, pretentious, and a pass -

Neither here nor there. I've been here twice. (Got dragged the 2nd time really.) First visit, I ordered the salmon. Second visit, I ordered the black cod. Overpriced for ehh. Additionally, the 2nd time we went here, the waitress screwed up everyone's order except for mine. I definitely won't miss anything about it if I never ever go back.

Review from Chavah A.
The Luxe Steakhouse was a nice cozy little spot with a very good atmosphere. We went for a late dinner and had very little time and the staff was very accomodating. We were seated almost immediately (even without reservations) and when we told the waiter we were sort of in a hurry he made things snappy even though we ordered multiple drinks, apps and meals with extra sides. They did not have Moscato (my favorite wine) but he did suggest a good sweet white wine which was an excellent choice for me. It had a very upbeat atmosphere and a nice (yet small) bar. I'd suggest it but be warned - it didn't really put out a "date night" vibe.

Review from Rita F.
Ottawa, ON
Was looking for somewhere in the market that my girlfriends and we could have a glass of wine and some light fare food. This was met with lukewarm expressions on a few faces since we thought Luxe was only for dinner. Wrong, it was a wonderful spot for wine and appetizers. The atmosphere was wonderful and the window seats were great for just hanging. I am now a fan with the wine selection being well thought out and the frites with multiple sauces divine.

Very good to great in some things but slightly below expectations in others. Steak medium rare rather than the requested rare. Menu interesting but not as much range as I had hoped. A high end surf n turf place really.
