I was visiting Winnipeg and had arranged to meet up with some friends. I suggested a gastropub as the type of place we should meet and eat at and they selected Luxalune out of the myriad of restaurants that Winnipeg has to offer.

Seriously, this town is stoked full of great places to eat.

My cab got near to the place and I offered to walk the rest of the way. Since I did not want to have to pay for him to drive up and down the street.

I got out and saw the street sign. I was on Corydon. So I lugged myself and the bag of Scottish Ales I had brought for my pals up to Crazy Corner and then back down Osborne.

It took a while and I did mutter something about Winnipeg cabbies under my breath while wandering.

I got there and the location seemed reasonable. If I had driven there, we would probably be discussing parking (something that Winnipegers seem very occupied with).

As it was, this place is a decent departure from the Bar Scene I remember back in the bad old days of Winnipeg night-time entertainment {Bumpers or the Bombay Bicycle Club come to mind}.

Lots of seating, most of it full and my pals in the back with a tall table and bar stools gathered around it.

The thing about this place is beer. Beer in Manitoba used to be really bad and we are not talking that long ago. In the 1980's the Manitoban beer selection was from four manufacturers. It all came in the same type of bottle (stubbies) and it all tasted the same. Club, Blue, Canadian, 50; they were all non-descript lagers made with the sole aim of getting you trashed.

This place has managed to collate the expansive selection of beers offered through the LCB of Manitoba and deliver it to you in one single location. So, will you find a Belgian La Chouffe Bok? No, but then I would not expect it. The Czech selection is standard. Gambrinus and Kozel are not here but Urquell is there. I am amazed that Staropramen has not made into the Manitoban Public Sector Beer List. The beer list is expansive and hopefully will grow more so as Brewing in Canada continues to improve.

I had a decent relationship with the folks at Steam Whistle Brewery and it sat in the reasonable alcohol percentage zone, so I stuck with that. So, no wandering into the realm of Superboks or Leffes.

The menu offered a decent deal on a Tapas Selection and so we each picked a dish. I have to say the food was good. I should have picked up a pizza as well, supposedly they are excellent here. No faults what-so-ever on the food front.

Service was the Canadian Standard of excellent. I love serving staff in Canada. They always seem to happy to be there. A bit of a change from the UK.

Despite the long trek to get there, I have to say I like this place. Could be a local if I lived nearby.

6 of us for a birthday dinner... Food was really good. Try the Pub Fries and Delux pizza... the gyoza sauce was too thick, I'm certain it was from a bottle, not made in house. Service was ok, but not great. It was a Sunday and only two servers, at first we were almost alone in the building, so service was quick, but as the night went on service crawled to a stop. Nice atmosphere, booths were comfortable for dinning. The big wheel was a great addition. Birthday Girl got to spin the wheel to win all sorts of prizes... She got Shwag... choice of 2 ski caps 1 ball hat and a bottle opener... Would have liked to have Luxalune on them rather than random brands.

    Overall, would go again.

This place is great! I love that they have beer from across the globe! I went to the Winnipeg Beer Festival and had a great time but didn't get a chance to try all of the beer so it was nice to come to this place and see them on the menu. Great place to go with a small or bigger group. Nice atmosphere, I just wish it wasn't so far away from me!

Came here with my siblings and my cousin and I could tell the potential this place has. Its a very cool setup with big screen tvs, ambiance music playing.

It almost looks like a bunch of living room setups though. There are a few pool tables, in which my sister kicked our asses as.

It wasnt busy that night at all, but the bartenders are cool. I hopefully will come back here again

I went to Luxalune for the first time last night for drinks and some food, with a couple of friends.

The atmosphere was nice - lots of open spaces, dark decor, and comfy couches - relaxed but a little sophisticated. The place was comfortably busy; a nice vibe but not packed. The noise level was a little higher than I'd like (people, not music) but it was still possible to have a conversation.

The food was excellent. The three of us shared the bison nachos, bruschetta and hummus plate. The bison nachos were great - the perfect balance of chips and toppings, and the toppings were nicely distributed throughout. The bruschetta was a build-your-own style plate and came with four different toppings - goat cheese, roasted garlic, mango chutney and salsa. The hummus plate had a nice garlicy hummus garnished with sliced banana peppers and mild black olive slices and crisp flat bread pieces. The portion sizes were more than adequate and we ended up taking a fair bit of food home (we'd been snacking on sweets earlier but the portions were still a very nice size.)

The drinks were mostly great. I had a SoHo Sling (lychee liqueur, lime and soda), a Pears Lemonade (pear vodka, lemon & lime juice) & a Love Potion #9 (Malibu, Peach Schnapps, cranberry & pineapple) which were all amazingly delicious girly drinks. I'd definitely order any of these again.

I was really hoping to be able to get a French Martini since they have a full bar, but sadly they don't have Chambord Raspberry, so, no French Martini for me.

Andrea ordered a Super Sour Lemon Collins (gin, juice from half a fresh squeezed lemon and soda) which was actually rather disappointing - it was not super sour, it was barely even lemony and not carbonated at all when it came out - it tasted more like gin with a splash of lemon and nothing else. She mentioned to the waitress that the drink really didn't seem to match the description, being severely lacking in the lemon and the soda. Instead of offering to get the drink remixed for her, she brought out a glass of soda and some extra lemon wedges so that Andrea could fix it herself which was... a little odd.

Service was a bit slow at times - we found ourselves wishing that a waitress would come by several times, as we had finished our drinks and needed another, but it wasn't terrible service - just could have been more attentive.

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars - certain aspects could definitely have been better but it was more than just okay. Good food, good drinks and close proximity to the house (walking distance, good for stumbling home drunk) will have me coming back, hopefully on a slightly quieter night next time.

A self-proclaimed gastro-pub, Luxalune's funky, relaxed atmosphere is a great place to unwind after work or kick the weekend into high gear.

Sophisticated tapas play the role of pub grub, although they've further eroded their status as a gastro by systematically removing any actual reference or relevance to brit pub fare.

Still, the bites are tasty and the boasting brews from the world over, the beer selection is unparalleled. UNPARALLELED!!!

Disappointed they got rid of the beer passport though, and wish they'd ditch that ridiculous prize wheel.

If I was voting on just the beer they are five stars. However we met another couple here and had the food. There was nothing of note in anything we had, and in some ways (other then the beer) we regretted this choice over the other place we we thinking of meeting. Would I go back, short answer is I have not yet, but on a hot summer day, and with so much good beer I may change my mind.

They have all the beers you can possibly get in Winnipeg and a nice beer-passport book to help you decide.  Very nice location, easy to park, and overall a comfortable place to go on a date or a night with some friends. Unlike some cookie-cutter lounges in the city, the music isn't obnoxiously loud. Plus the food was really good (BBQ pizza was off the hook) . We need more placed like this in Winnipeg .
