It seems you either love Lush or you hate Lush. The smell is quite strong when you walk into the store. If are really sensitive to perfume or strong soap smells you probably won't love Lush.

I actually don't mind the smell. I don't really use any of their soaps or bath bombs, what I do use is the Shampoo Bar. Its a great thing to take traveling because its a bar of shampoo, and not a liquid. Whenever I travel I try to just take carry-on (to avoid paying extra bag fees or having the airline lose my luggage) so I have to be careful to go over the 100ml/bottle liquid rule. The shampoo bars are great because they're not a liquid, and they're easy to fit in my bag. I usually use regular shampoo at home, but when I travel I thrown the shampoo bar in my bag instead.

On my last visit I saw they have conditioner bar, which I was excited about because it'll make traveling easier. It's got like a waxy feel to it. The lady demonstrated how to use it, just break a little off and mix with water until it's a consistency you like. I tried it the other day and liked the smell a lot. It was pretty easy to use, but not quite as moisturizing as my regular conditioner. I don't think I'd use this all the time but when I travel it'll be a good thing to have.

As for the other products I'm hesitant to buy them, just because I have two shelves filled with soaps and other bath products, so I don't really need to buy anymore. But when  my shampoo or conditioner bar runs out, I'll come back in to buy another.

I love Lush products. I used to get them mailorder and had a friend that worked at the Vancouver office who would send me care packages with lots of goodies. That was a pretty great set-up, but nothing beats walking into the store and smelling all of that gorgeousness first hand!

I found the staff to be super friendly and helpful every time I have visited. I prefer the Whyte Ave location over the one in West Ed by far. It's nice to be able to try samples of the product and it's impossible to leave the store without buying something. They've got something for everyone, including great products for the guys. I buy my husband the shaving products and they make him smell so darn good!

I popped in here after noticing the Henna bars looked different. It looks like they do not have any black henna in their henna bars any longer, which is excellent (it's been replaced with indigo, a herb that is safe to use on hair and skin.)

However, their soaps and other bath products still contain irritants and potentially dangerous chemicals, including sodium lauryl sulfate, cocamide DEA, dye chemicals, and "perfume"... which could be pretty much anything under the sun. And based on the powerful collective synthetic odor that hits you when you walk by the store, they use a loooot of "perfume." I don't know about you, but I ain't rubbin' that stuff on my body.

Another important update: the friend who endorsed Lush's products has since done more research and tried other products and her opinion has completely turned around.

I like LUSH and the smell.  They go hand in hand, their products are very fragrant.

Once upon a time I used to give the bath bomb's as romantic gifts, but now I go in for the occasional soap.  I would like this place much more if cottage soap making wasn't so popular and you can easily get more for less just a few doors down.

I pretty much only use Lush products... and nothing else.

Most of the time, I enjoy going into Lush on whyte ave... although have at times not had great customer service...

Even though I am always satisfied by the products, I am not always satisfied with the staff...which is unfortunate, as it sometimes hinders my decision to shop

I don't know how so many people can love this store.  I can't walk more than 2 steps inside the doorway without feeling lightheaded from the horrendous smell!

Seriously, they should really take care of that.  i don't know how, but they should.

The staff that I encountered were actually outside the store on the street making a huge mess of bubbles and who knows what else.  They were mixing some sort of concoction and were completely oblivious to the fact that people were walking by them, through their mess.  They didn't care.

I have to say, even if they did manage to lessen the headache-inducing stench that comes from this store, I probably wouldn't go in because of how the two staff members showed their blatant disregard for pedestrians outside their store.

    FAIL!

I'm totally on board with making beauty products smell so good you want to eat them, but aside from Lush being novel by making soaps look like slabs of fudge and other edibles, I think it goes a bit overboard. First of all, walking into their store if you've never been in, is a glorious site. It looks like a supermarket but it smells like you bathed for a year in every lotion, soap and bubble bath ever made.

I can barely breathe in this shop. The idea is cute, and it's great for younger girls who can't afford higher quality products from The Body Shop or Fruits & Passions. You can prettify and be all girly at a fraction of the cost, but good luck getting your guy to spend more than 30 seconds in this shop. It's a sneeze fit waiting to happen. My favourite are the bath bombs that have bits of flower petals in them. As it explodes in the bath the dried blossoms float in your bath making it pretty. They make attempts to create some all-natural products like temple balms and face masks etc, with varying results. I liked the lavender temple balm quite a bit but it lost its scent before the tin was gone and I didn't find the masks very effective, although at least they're not harsh like a lot of face products. Lush is for teeny-boppers, not for women.

You can't help but want to stop in Lush when you pass by it, because its scents are so intoxicatingly yummy. The fragrances from their soaps all meld together to form a blend that smells good enough to eat. But of course, you can't eat anything here, because it's all soaps and bath bombs.

They always have their collection of bath bombs in the centre of the store, and you can pick them up freely and sniff them if you want. Lush also carries an extensive skincare line, something for every skin type. I've tried the Babyface scrub, which left my skin smelling really nice. Another cool product is their After 8:30 massage bar, which is a moisturizing bar that relaxes tired muscles and smells like After Eight chocolate.

They have special Halloween items right now, including pumpkin soap and a Witch's bath bomb, until the end of the month. The prices are quite high, especially if you're not used to splurging on pampering products. It can get up to $10 for a single bubble bar, which is quite a lot even I'll admit. But they price everything by weight, and the products are usually so moisturizing that you only need to use a bit at a time.

What's cool is that everything is vegan, handmade and isn't tested on animals. So you can bathe your body in luxury with a good consience. Just be careful to leave your products in a cool place, because they do melt!

I totally know what Lauren means when she says that Lush products look good enough to eat. A lot of their soaps look like delicious chunks of fattening cheeses, and they are even packed with paper and labels as they would use in a meat & cheese deli. A lot of the lotions and creams are packed in containers that remind me of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Giant M&M cookies are my favourite, but I can't eat the ones at Lush, because they are actually bath bubblers.

This place is totally colourful and neat, but the smell is quite overpowering. Everything is frangranced, and it's a bit too strong for my liking. I actually don't even like being in the store that long, just because the smell is so strong. I prefer very light fragraces, so I really only buy stuff here for gifts and not for myself.

    I love LUSH!

I love the smell when I walk into the store because it makes me feel girly and pampered. I also love the atmosphere of the Whyte Ave, store and the sound of my feet on the hardwood floor - part of the experience for me.

LUSH sells hand made cosmetics, soaps, hand lotions and other products to pamper yourself. They are made in Canada and use 100% natural ingredients.

One of the product lines I recommend are the shampoo bars - liquid shampoo in soap form. If you buy multiple bars you normally get a carrying case for them which is a handy thing to have when you travel. Their body bars are also great. I use them just as I'm about to get out of the shower. It's a nice alternative to lotion and a must in our beloved Edmonton arid climate.

Part of the LUSH experience is going into a store, but if you can't you can order online. I'm impressed with their social responsibility as they have a program called the Charity Pot where 100% of the retail price of the Charity Pot hand and body lotion goes directly to charities around that world that focus on animal rights, environmental protection and humanitarian issues. This makes you feel good inside and out!

The products are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for and sometimes it's good to treat yourself.

While I love the products that this store sells, I HATE the smell. It is very strong and can be pretty overwhelming once you walk in. But the products and staff are great.

Everything here is handmade, fresh and  is not tested on animals. I really like this concept, so when I can, I shop here. It is a little bit on the expensive side ($5-$6 for a single bath bomb, $7-$30 for facial cleansers...). I love the names of the products (for example... "Honey Lumps Bath Bomb", "All That Jasmine Bath Bomb",  "Coalface Cleanser") and the packaging is also pretty funky.

    My tip?
Go on their website and decide on a couple different products you want to check out. THEN go to the store. Otherwise you could become overwhelmed with smell. I usually get a headache when I am in this store so I try to go in and out.

Whenever I am on Whyte Avenue, I cannot help but stop by at Lush. The store smells beautifully, sales girls are cheerful and helpful, and I just can't resist purchasing a product or two. Lush creates amazing skin and hair care products which are made of only natural ingredients and occasional non-aggressive preservatives. All ingredients are clearly stated on the labels that accompany every single product. Everything sold at Lush is made by hand. Soaps, shampoos, bath bombs, masks and moisturizers come with stickers that display the name of the person who made them, and the date of production. This way, Lush ensures that customers get to enjoy freshest products possible.
I have been shopping at Lush for years, and tried virtually everything they sell. I love that Lush cosmetics are natural and cruelty free. And it doesn't hurt that all products smell heavenly.
Lush's gift baskets make great presents. What woman would say no to pampering herself with Lush's "delicious" creations?
