I was late for my 3.30pm appointment due to traffic which I called to say I'll just take the next available slot which would be 4.30pm. Having no place else to go I show up by 3.50pm to wait for my turn, but since no customer was there we decide to start on my hair first. HIs 4pm client arrives and I tell him over and over again to tend to that client first (because I obviously don't want to feel the same if I was that client coming for my stated appointment.)
Instead he tells me that cutting my hair would be fast anyway so he'll just finish it up. Whoa! That really disappointed me. No more meticulous checking and trimming any stray strand of hair. No more conversations in the process. He cut it like there was no tomorrow. Everytime, he even washes my hair in the sink to remove all the loose hair and dries is to triple check any uneven cut. Today there was none of that. It was just another barber shop. He cut and sent me on my way.
I would have preferred he agreed to just wait for my turn than to rush and accommodate me with second-rate service. I guess when you have to trek to Richmond from Downtown Vancouver just for a haircut and end up getting a lackluster service then it's time to move on.
I paid. Gave my usual 20%+ tip and walked away.
