This place is great, I've eaten dinner there several times. Walking in, the smell of spicy, flavorful dishes is in the air. This is Hunan (Chairman Mao) so plenty of sinfully delicious pork dishes. Last one was pork ribs and rice on a big banana leaf. Currently I see many others besides us having whole fish, I think it is tilapia. It's fresh killed, my partner says she can tell by the taste, bathed in sauce and covered with peppers, not too hot. That alone with a bowl of soup and rice is dinner for two. It's always full of Chinese eating voraciously. Parking in the rear, onto first porch, past the 1st set of stairs, up the 2nd set, turn right at the top.
The prices very reasonable, especially at lunch. The owner will be there until the lease is up later in the year, then will look for better location. -

I returned to try their cumin lamb dish again, and thankfully it was just as good as the first time. The lamb is very tender, and there are nice whole chunks of smokey chili with several Szechuan peppercorns. The cilantro gives a nice crunch and balance to the dish, as do the onions. Reasonably priced at $7.95 which includes rice and a glass of soy milk. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Also got to try the "Hunan style pea curd" (which I had to order since I've never heard of pea curd before - thanks to Lolia S. I now know this is called liangfen). The white jelly is quite similar to the type you get at Korean restaurants in nokdumuk. It was served chilled in a delicious sauce which had strong chili flavour, some fresh cilantro, toasted sesame seeds, sesame oil, soy sauce, and dried shrimp. These all blend together beautifully to make a delicious sauce for the pea curd. This was listed as an appetizer sized dish and priced at a very reasonable $4.95, but was actually a HUGE dish. Service was very friendly, even though I was the only non-Mandarin speaking customer. I'll be back.Listed in: Vancouver Chinese Food, Mary had a little lamb, and I…, Engrish, Vancouver Dumplings
