Exec. Summary: Great Ethiopian food, delicious coffee, now with non-cash payment options.

Don't let the name and neon lights fool you - this hole-in-the-wall is not a sex shop, but a delicious Ethiopian restaurant.  The food was quite good, though I'd stress the 'relatively' part of the other review's 'relatively fast service' comment.  I usually go for the vegetarian platter at Ethiopian places and it did not disappoint here.

As a kicker (especially for a beer enthusiast) they served Tusker beer (from Kenya).  It isn't the rarest beer in the world, but it's a nice surprise at a place you'd expect to have to settle for Heineken or some such.

The post-meal coffee was a nice ceremonial coda to the evening: they bring out a fairly ornate serving apparatus and let you smell the beans as they are being roasted; also: the coffee is delicious.

To note - the other review stressed that this place is cash only and I can only say that wasn't true in November, '11 - my table paid with debit and credit without issue.

I went to Levenest for the first time yesterday and got take out.  I took out some "Derho Tsebhi" which is chicken and onions in a sauce. The food was good - beit on the spicier end for Ethiopian. I would only recommend this dish if you like pretty spicy food. It came with a pretty delicious side salad.

Here are some caveats to keep in mind:

    1. The service was friendly and relatively fast (for Ethiopian in my experience), however the waitress did not speak much English so we mostly communicated through pointing at stuff on the menu.

    2. This place is cash only regardless of what it says on the website. So make sure you bring some money with you.

    3. The prices on the menu include tax, which was a pleasant surprise.

    4. The women's bathroom door is difficult to close but if you pull hard enough (put your body weight in it) it will close and lock lol.

Otherwise the atmosphere was great and the place was well decorated in Ethiopian motifs. I would come back again.
