This jewel is hidden in a pretty confusing strip mall ridden with traffic. Ignore the hole-in-the-wall experience, the very dated appearance and the boxes of food cartons and packaging tossed on the nearby tables. It also may seem like no one actually eats a meal here. Wrong.
I've been coming to this restaurant for at least 15 years, and it looks exactly the same with the same owner, and the same kind of food at (almost) the same prices. It's frequented by many North Indians all over Toronto as an inner circle secret. Seriously, this restaurant does 90% of their business in catering, so you'll be hard pressed to find a ton of people in the restaurant. I love eating in the restaurant however, since everything is freshly made from scratch. Including the spices which makes all the difference in the world. I happen to adore this place because it is truly authentic North Indian cooking that leaves you feeling good afterwards.
Secret: Most mid-priced Indian restaurants, particularly a couple in Little India use ready-made spices which come in these massive drums that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Say hello to atherosclerosis.
Go in, ignore the crap around you, order a Vegetarian thali or Non-Veg if you prefer, it'll give you 1 choice of meat plus 2 veg options(3 if you're a veg), and yogurt, with a choice of fresh roti or naan. I would actually pay up to $15 for a thali here, but they surprisingly run you a mere $4-5 . You can also specify the degree of spice. The drinks here are great too. I recommend a sweet lassi to complement your meal.Listed in: Indian Food
