With only a hand-full of Mexican themed restaurants in Winnipeg we though we would all give it a try it replaces the Dacquisto resterant. To cut to the chase, they are doing a good effort for a place that was just opened three weeks (and at a busy time of the year), however you can see everything is not running quite right yet. Do not get me wrong the food and service along with the drinks we ordered were fine, however there we some slips along the way.
The best way I can put this is all five of us enjoyed the meal, if I overlook the slips they may have gotten a higher rating.
They are definitely worth a second look in a month or so when the holiday rush is over, and they have a change to work the kinks out. -

Not overly impressed with the food. Had a taco salad that was mainly shredded lettuce. Not overly authetic food I found. Atmosphere in lounge was great. Open area not too loud, you can actually have a conversation without yelling which was nice.

I can't help but compare all mexican restaurants to Paradiso in North Dakota (http://www.paradiso.com/). As a result, I cannot give Los Chicos anything more than 2 stars. My wife and I both agreed that we would rather have Taco Time or Taco Bell than return to Los Chicos. The meals were very pricey ($10.99 for a Veggie Burrito & $12.99 for a Burrito Grande {which was identicle to the Veg, except it had red sauce and melted cheese}). Aside from the burrito, the meals came with a small portion of shredded lettuce, a few diced tomato pieces, a small, small dollop of sour cream, and a tiny bean salad (which wasn't very good). Free, bottomless chips & salsa are included. The chips/salsa was probably the best part of the meal.
If they hope to get my business again, they are going to have to go to Paradiso, try a few meals, and then make their meals just as saucy, cheesy, and savoury as those across the border.
If you are interested, try it sooner than later, as they are in a location that keeps changing owners/concepts. I honestly don't expect they will last. I know several people who rave about Paradiso, and this won't live up to their expectations. A relative was also at Los Chicos recently, and likewise agreed that it was nowhere near as good as Paradiso.
