Beautiful hotel, with a great location!  Really preferred our stay here to an overnight spent in a downtown hotel...very peaceful and relaxing.  Will def. go back soon.

I've now received notification that someone "complained" about this review - I'm assuming the manager in question, since said manager has responded to a number of the other reviews. I originally had said manager's first name in the review, but I've removed it so that I for-sure comply with Yelp's review guidelines for sure (even though the guidelines just advise not using the FULL name). Beyond that, my review DOES comply - it's not my problem if the Lonsdale Quay Hotel doesn't LIKE my honesty! :)

And of course, the comment from said manager below my initial review is amusing. "Unsubstantiated claims" just means that they don't want to admit fault on anything other than the initial mistake, and then just ignore the snowballing "comedy of errors" thereafter. And yes, of course Expedia said that a deposit is required, and we expected one, but we expected one for a NORMAL amount, like $100 or so. And we did see parking cost, but elected NOT to park there since there was free parking at ICBC next door - the front desk clerk even told us that we could park at ICBC upon our arrival.

So if those are the only points that the managment can provide "rebuttal" upon... well, dear reader, I leave judgment to you. :)

I'm so upset with the customer service at this hotel. I bought a Living Social deal and had planned a night out for my husband's birthday. Even though the coupon doesn't expire for 6 months and I wanted to book on a Tuesday night, I missed in the fine print that you have to book within 45 days of purchase. I was off by about 10 days. They refused to honour my coupon (without a $40 surcharge???) and refused to even discuss it with me. I am in tears at my loss of money and loss of the great evening I had planned for my husband's birthday.

I'm hoping I'll be able to update this and that the manager will phone us as requested, but the fact that we specifically requested follow-up and have not received any word yet (8 days and counting) is making me a lot more pessimistic.

Honestly, I would give this hotel a 4 for location and the room (and bump that to a 5 if the service had been good), but the score gets knocked down by the lack of customer service.

To start with: don't bother with the bed & breakfast "deal". We priced it out and it would have been nearly $3 cheaper to get the room and then pay for the exact same meal ourselves. Not cool. This really soured our experience. We felt duped. When something says "Bed and Breakfast Deal!", I expect it to actually save me money.

A point of clarification for those that go ahead with it anyway: the website says a choice of specific foods, but the voucher you get says that it's good for one free entree each. We were very excited about being able to get other options, and were disappointed to find out that the website was correct and that our selections were limited, in spite of what the voucher said.

Our breakfast was served by an extremely overworked server who was, aside from being the sole server for the entire Mix Lounge, also the only person available for room service. This meant that anytime anyone ordered room service, she had to abandon the restaurant and run up to deliver the food, then frantically run down again to top up our coffees. This was on the weekend before Valentine's Day, so it was a major staffing oversight. The poor gal was doing her best, but there were enormous waits because everything was so drastically understaffed. (It took 15 minutes to be acknowledged at the front entrance, for example.) The food itself was on par with similar hotels, and our server was gracious under stress. No complaints about the food or the server, just the understaffing.

Front desk staff: we got the feeling that they were understaffed, too, as the night shift seemed particularly rushed. There was no one available to run up a corkscrew for us in the evening -- not a big deal (we didn't mind running down), but again, it added to the "understaffed" feeling. The next morning, when we checked out and let the front staff agent know about the understaffing in the restaurant and the price issues with the bed & breakfast deal, the first reaction we got was a palms out "Don't get mad, but..." It was an oddly defensive reaction given that we were speaking very calmly and saying "we know it's not your fault, don't worry," etc., and so I'm guessing that the poor front desk folks hear the same complaints a lot. She was very friendly as she wrote down our complaints and our phone number for the manager, and we were hopeful that we would hear back, but so far, no luck.

The room itself was lovely, with a fantastic view. Absolutely no complaints about the room furnishings or location. We had an absolutely blast and loved being right in the centre of the Lonsdale action. There were cute little chocolates on our pillows for Valentine's Day; a nice touch!

Room cleanliness was okay aside from stray hairs (clearly not belonging to us) kicking around in a few places in the bathroom. As an ex-hotel housekeeper, my eyes honed in on them right away. Not a big enough deal to raise a fuss, but maybe another symptom of being rushed/understaffing?

Overall, in spite of my whinging here, it was a decent experience. I just wish the customer service had been a little better, or that we at least could have gotten an apology or an explanation or some sort of acknowledgement that things weren't up to par. My husband and I are generally very easygoing, but the little things here and there added up to leave a bad taste in our mouths. I'm not sure we'll stay here again or go out of our way to recommend it.

    Revised Review:

I am adding a revised review of the Londsdale Quay Hotel. My husband and I had visited Vancouver in 2010 and had a bit of an unpleasant stay....but decided to give this conveniently located boutique hotel a second chance. Glad we did!

We arrived mid afternoon. April was extremely helpful with getting me sorted out with the room and parking pass. Finding a parking spot in the underground garage was pretty straight forward and getting to our room was an easy elevator ride up to the fourth floor. We stayed in the Executive Suite which was nicely decorated and had a king sized bed, flat screen TV, as well as a cute little patio with a great view of the water. My husband and I enjoyed watching the sun set over the city before taking a walk in the market below the hotel.

The bed was so comfortable, we couldn't help but sleep in the following morning! We thought we missed breakfast, but managed to find a little kiosk in the market downstairs that served eggs on a croissant with either ham, smoked salmon or avocado and tomato. Delicious! We sat in the sun and enjoyed our food while watching the sea bus go back & forth to downtown Vancouver.

The Lonsdale Quay Hotel is in a fantastic area of town. There are so many great little restaurants and shops to visit all within a few short blocks. When you're done you can wander around on the pier, enjoy the city skyline to the south and the beautiful mountains to the north.

We plan on returning again in a few months and will definitely be staying at this great little hotel again!

    Original Review:

We booked our room at the last minute and had no problem finding the hotel. The woman at the front counter was rather cold with us. I tried to be as nice as possible with her...in the end I just felt uncomfortable and as though I was intruding.

We checked in and started to unpack. The room did not have a view, but I was willing to accept this with the reasonable rate and last minute booking. Unfortunately upon closer inspection I found that the bathroom was dirty and worst of all...the bed sheets were also dirty (dried bodily fluids...yuck!!!) I called the front desk and explained the situation. We were moved up a floor to another room right by the door. This door slammed every time someone entered and exited the hallway! Apparently there were a lot of late night arrivals and early risers staying at the Hotel. We had some difficulty sleeping and asked to be moved the next day. But the same unpleasant woman at the desk refused.

I can get passed the lack of view from my window. However, the cleanliness of the rooms (dirty bed linens are unacceptable!) the cold reception at the front desk as well as the slamming doors made our stay rather unpleasant. Hopefully they can get these things sorted out...until then, I don't plan on staying again.

Our family stayed here during our vacation, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This place is a hidden gem. Compared with other budget hotels, Lonsdale Quay is a cut above the rest.

Located in Northern Vancouver, the hotel is 10 minutes removed from the downtown area. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Rooms were spacious and boasted a waterfront view. For $90 per night, this place is a bargain.

One thing to note: this isn't your typical hotel. The front desk is on the third floor of the Lonsdale Quay Market. The first two floors contain charming shops, artworks, and food vendors. Our family grabbed breakfast here in the morning and returned at night for some good eats. And for all you cheap people out there fitting five or more to a room like we did, there's a staircase positioned away from the front desk for sneaky access into the rooms. Overall, great place.

Update: the manager followed up on our comment card (which was a condensed version of my review here).  She apologized for not having the hotel policies more clearly communicated and for the attitude with which we had been met.  And she offered us a free night.  So we will see how that goes.

Perhaps what would help is a more detailed description of the rooms, amenities, and policies on the website.  The website was the first place we looked, and after looking at it, we had been left with a lot of questions, which we tried to have answered through communicating to the staff prior to our arrival.  But we appreciate the follow-up to our comments.

Great location for North Vancouver, BC; but the hotel lacks privacy since windows open to the sidewalk.

We arrived at this hotel and the only room they would put us in has large windows that we have to keep the blinds close at all times.  That's because separating our room to the pedestrian is just a glass window.  It would have been nice if they even add a fog screen to the lower windows and put a limit stop to how far the windows open out.  The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable.

We tried to be relocated to a different room where we don't have to face the sidewalk, but the front desk wanted to charge an extra $15 for it.  That's what you get for pricelining a room outside the U.S..  The front desk attendant looks busy all the time, so not sure what they were doing on their computers.  The internet service was spotty and the free use of the computer in the lobby (thats the open area of the public market) has limited access.  Yes, the lobby is the public market.. Imagine a mall with a corner that has rooms for rent.  Definitely not a classy hotel or even an upscale hotel, but it was convenient.

I stayed in this hotel as part of a business trip.  If you're not sure where you are going th enterance for the hotel can be hard to spot. The hotel room itself is lovely, comfortable bed, nice clean shower, nice smelling soap, lotion, etc.   The view of the water saw beautiful.  You can even hear the boats!  I would agree with Duke that the location is a little strange being above a market, that the hotel is split into into little sections.  Though, this does have it's advantages.  I like the fact that I can walk out of the hotel and just down on the first floor I can get coffee, all sorts of different kinds of food, and even fresh fruit.
