Review from Lance W.
My favorite Marriott property in London, by far...
To be sure, other reviewers are correct:
It is on the wrong side of the Thames, it is smack in the middle of Millenium Wheel tourist crowds and it has the longest hotel hallway that I've ever seen outside of Vegas but the good far outweighs the bad.
The rooms are huge, huge by London standards. The health club is amazing and complimentary including a Whirlpool, indoor pool, weight room and all the other amenities you would expect.
It's only a 5 minute walk across the bridge so location is not a huge inconvenience.
This is now the only place that I stay in London... -
Review from Stella Y.
Staff is a little awkward and not the friendliest. But then again I just got back from the JW Marriott in Orlando Grand Lakes and I'm pretty sure that was the best hotel service I've ever received (shameless plug).
But is the London Marriott really a luxury 5 star hotel? Doesn't seem like it. From the outside the hotel is stunning, especially at night. The Palace of Westminster/Big Ben and London Eye are right by the hotel, and it's perched beautifully on the water, so it's a great spot for tourists. But if you've been there, done that, I'd go somewhere else.
Rooms are clean. Continental breakfast is good with a nice mix of English and American style offerings. Their cereal bar is pretty extensive and they have some fancy toppings, which I appreciate. It's all about the details. :) Looks wise, you can tell this place really was a government landmark - architecture is beautiful and the interior shows - very dark, old school carpeting, libraries, etc. Vibe is the polar opposite of a "happening", trendy hotel.
If I were staying in London on leisure though, I wouldn't choose to stay here. Not in the most fun part of London but it's okay for business meetings. -
Review from Robert M.
I have stayed at many of the Marriott hotels around the world and this one is one of the better I have stayed in. It does have a view of Big Ben as mentioned, but I was out during the day and at night, I had the window closed and did not hear the chimes at all.
The location would be the only real issue I have, but to be honest, I think it is a little petty. It was simply that I had to walk a bit more (across the bridge) to get to a tube that could get me where I wanted to go.
The staff were amazing, friendly and very helpful. We (wife and I) were there for five nights. It was the first leg of our 25th anniversary. The second stop was Rome, where we stayed at the Marriott as well, the Grand Flora. So trust me when I tell you, the Grand Flora is no where near as good as the County Hall.
The view we has was spectacular, the facilities (executive lounge, the gym and pool, and dinning) were top notch.
In the end, I can not say enough.
But, to answer the other folks' issues: 1) Close the window. I do not recall ever hearing Big Ben chime. Kind of petty if that brings you to a 2 star rating. I am sure you have experienced better, but not really the point of 2 stars for Yelp. 2) I am pretty sure that all of the Marriott's, world wide, are smoke free facilities, and have been for the past several years. At least that is what all of the monthly mags I get from Marriott say. 3) As for the room size, I am guessing that all rooms are not equal. The room we had was huge, even by US standards. The bathroom was also very, very big. So I can't say that people are not correct as for the room size, but please make sure you ask, because ours was exterior, facing the Thames on the 7th floor and it was massive.
Oh, I have also stayed in the Ritz Carlton as well as the 4 seasons in New York, neither one come close to this place. -
Review from Eric B.
This is one of the company-approved hotels during those very few times I am in London on business. It's within convenient walking distance of the Corporate HG, the London Eye, the Underground, the Westminster Bride, the West End, South Bank, and other local attractions.
It's a beautiful and hospitable, albeit expensive hotel. And it is an island of luxury and quiet amongst the hustle and bustle of London Town. The rooms are comfortable too and the service is as high end as the facility.
The English breakfast is not included in the price, although there is a McDonald's close by if you don't wish to pay full freight in the hotel's nicely appointed dining room.Listed in: Unique Places to Stay

Review from Autumn B.
Did. Not. Like. 2 stars for location and cleanliness. Otherwise I wasn't impressed! They brag that it has views of Big Ben, but what no one tells you is that Big Ben chimes every fckn 15 minutes / 24 hours a day. All I remember is trying to sleep with loud chiming every hour.
Room was small for a suite, I've stayed in smaller in the UK definately but it was advertised as a 5star hotel.
The other issues we had with this hotel is that while we arrived well after check-in, it took them 3 hours to prepare our suite. They try to be polite and tell you to go out and eat or sightsee, but after a 7 hour red eye flight, the last thing you want is to be out in public. A shower is all you're craving. To top it all off, during our 5 day stay, the fire alarms went off TWICE. Not just alarms, but full evacuations. Know what's not fun? Standing around in your pajamas on the Thames waiting to see if the hotel is burning down or if someone pulled the alarm as a prank. It was the latter. Not once, but TWICE.
It's hard to understand how this is a 5star hotel, I think British standards are lower. -
Review from Bradley C.
I've stayed at several places in London, but the room I had here was by far the best! They put me on a top floor room with spectacular views of the Thames and the London Eye. The room was big with 2 queen sized beds, high ceilings and 2 massive, dormer style windows. The bathroom was also large with a beautiful modern, antique style tub. The restaurant and bar were nice, but nothing special. The location is good, but not central to a lot of what i visit London for.

London
The beautiful Marriott County Hall is an existence of luxury.
As you turn off the crazy chaotic streets of London, you drive under a giant cobbled structured archway where you enter a different world. Perfectly pruned grass and gardens, large stone stairway leading to a grand entrance with well dressed porters and door men waiting to be completely at your service!
I have been fortunate to stay here once and dine here a few times when my parents have been in town.
The rooms are bliss. Huge big comfortable beds, beautiful views over the Thames River with the London Eye directly in front of you - I could see the people in the pods! The London skyline lights up at night creating a magnificent view.
The health suite is such a delight - facials, manicures, pedicures, and massages - anything you could dream of in peaceful serenity. It was Mum's birthday so we both had a relaxing facial and manicure.
The main bar area is where you can either have drinks before you go out to a restaurant, eat at the hotel restaurant or just spend the evening. The bar, as you can imagine, is filled with beautiful big armchairs, velvet couches, wooden tables and a magnificent grand bar with huge chandeliers. The views across London are again spectacular and the service is spot on!
This is a very expensive Hotel, however for a special occasion or someone else is paying it is fantastic. -
Review from Meg M.
Booked 2 rooms months in advance through their Friends and Family program and requested a non-smoking room. Upon arrival (weary from traveling all day from the US), we were told that there were no non-smoking rooms available. Apprently Marriott only takes "requests" for non-smoking rooms, they don't actually "reserve" non-smoking rooms (even though our credit card was already being held). They did offer a non-smoking suite at full price, but since there were three of us, that didn't make sense, and we needed to find another hotel. Will never make a reservation here again.

Review from Mark T.
I stayed here for three nights this past week, and I enjoyed the experience. The hotel used to house the government from the 1920s-1980's and provided an excellent location. Right across the bridge from Big Ben & Parliament, just down from the London Eye and located on the South Bank, I enjoyed the location more than the hotel I stayed in during my prior London visit. The concierge was very friendly in settle up tickets to the bus tour & the Tower of London. The staff held our bags after check out and was friendly with every interaction. Some of the rooms provided a view of Big Ben & Parliament, and some river views. Of course, with the price I paid my view was some unknown courtyard with a smokestack. Somewhere on the inner workings of the hotel -but that was fine. At least I was there!
I ordered room service twice and took in the restaurant once; each time it was good, although a bit pricey compared to restaurants in the area. The room book recommended visitors should not miss the Library which contains original statutes - unfortunately we were unable to visit neither The Library nor the Leader's Lounge across the hall because the hotel was hosting the ATP Barclay finals and the players were staying in the hotel. That meant the lounge and the Library were closed to private parties. Even with the players staying in the hotel, the staff was very friendly to the other guests and one did let us walk into the Library to have a quick look around. There was one player in there, but I did not know him. While we were in there, Novak Djokovic entered for breakfast. I saw another player in the hallway, but again, I didn't know him. I did run into Roger Federer outside on the pier while waiting for a river tour.
The hotel services were good - I did use the gym, which was very large and included several machines to choose. One problem I had with the club was it was difficult to locate and I don't think I was actually supposed to be there. Walking down the hallway I saw a door for Pilates and one for swimming. I started to walk in the pool door while some guy was coming out. I asked him where the treadmill was and he walked me across the hall, entered the code and directed me through the locker-room. That was a crazy, windy journey and it was difficult to locate, but finally I found my way to the inner room. Getting out was another story and it took some time. Eventually I walked down the stairs, through an opened lobby and exited through a door marked "Private" - no wonder I couldn't locate it on my own.
The size of the room was excellent - much larger than typical European rooms. The bathtub/shower was magnificent and all of my party started that was among the highlights. I would have liked to have tried the tea or the lounge, but as I mentioned it was restricted. I would probably give this place a 5 star had I been able to access the full hotel. Another thing I had trouble with was getting out to the South Bank - I am sure there is a way from the hotel directly to the sidewalk; however, the only way I could locate was out the front doors, down the street, and back around the back of the building. Despite the navigation challenges and the closed areas due to players, this was the best stay I have had in London. -
Review from PC W.
I had the pleasure of staying here for one night a few years ago on my first trip to London. The location is absolutely unbeatable with a tube stop and several tourist destinations in such close proximity. The hotel staff was so hospitable and generous. The decor in the rooms was "old english country" which some people might enjoy - if your tastes are much more modern then the room environment might not be for you. The tea service in the room was excellent. The only annoying thing was walking across Westminster Bridge because it can tend to be crowded with tourists taking pictures of Big Ben, County Hall and the London Eye. Price notwithstanding, I would certainly stay here again.

I love the location of this hotel, it is in the best South Bank spot, County Hall, and the views are stunning. The rooms are very comfortable although some are looking a little jaded. The beds are very luxurious and the service is excellent. It is expensive but you are paying for the location. The pool and spa areas are very nice if somewhat quaint.

Review from Lisa Marie M.
Blimey! Jolly old England. On my last trip to London, I stayed at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. A luxurious 5-star hotel where the land of gentry "upper class" feel right at home pulling up their Chelsea tractors for valet. The frugal, rich wankers. Bloody, hell... the stay here was C-L-A-S-S-Y. Our suite had a king size bed, which I had to jump on and yell, "I'm queen of the world. And I'm ready for tea an crumpits with Queeny Liz. God Save the Queen." Lucky for me, my sweetie finds my cheeky antics amusing.
Our comfortable suite had a mini bar, complimentary tea and coffee, and a view of the river Thames that was unbelievable. We could see Parliament, Big Ben, and all the regal English architecture of London from our suite. Our suite was smack in the center of the London Eye (the millennium fares wheel). Every morning, my sweetie and I would awake to the London Eye's egg shaped pods rotate upward passed our window. The pods were filled with daft tourist. We would just laugh at all the people inside the pod eggs. And say, "Look at all the chicks in the egg. Wankers!!! Cheeky monkeys."
Jolly-O... the accommodations at the Marriott made my sweetie and I feel like aristocrats. On our five night stay, we slept like royalty and made use of the complimentary breakfast. Nespresso coffee and cappuccino, English cheeses and croissants would greet us good morning. And if we needed to catch up on the U.S. news (politicians facing criminal charges or know about Paris Hilton's latest mood disorder), CNN in the breakfast dinning room was there to fill the void. Four those 5 nights at the Marriott, it was an enjoyable and relaxing home away from home. As we visited my sweeties' family by day, went sight-seeing to all the hot spots (Knotting Hill, Picadilly Circus, and the queen's pad), it was so nice to return to our comfortable hotel suite and find our bed made and a mint laid out on our pillows. Quality service. The hotel staff, the mints on the pillow each night and the over-all hospitality of the London Marriott is supreme. On our next trip to London, I am treating my sweetie and I to the London Marriott. My Sweeties' Marriot rewards swan song played and paid for the accommodations this last trip. Thanks, my Love!
Cheerio, darlings! -
Review from Stacy O.
On a two-week trip to London and Paris, this was the 3rd hotel we stayed at. I wish I could have stayed here the whole trip.. Amazing views, perfect location, walking distance to multiple underground stations, and the accommodations...are to die for. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on (you should know, I prefer a slightly cushiony bed.) There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. We were never bothered by the noise outside, of tourists, or Big Ben. Many stressful days at work, I dream of this hotel...

Review from connie k.
if i ever need to stay in london again, i will surely stay here. not only did i have the best stay here, but the customer service, front desk, and concierge are the most top-notch people i've ever encountered in a hotel. everyone was so helpful, especially since we weren't the easiest travelers.. we had to check in early, leave our bags, and then had a mishap with a security lock stuck on a bag that i needed to take onto a plane the next morning. the incredibly kind girl at the front desk practically bent over backwards to help out and found someone else in the hotel who could snip a store security lock that had accidentally been left on a purchase i made earlier in the day, no questions asked).
our room was gorgeous, with a view of the london eye. lovely bedding, great comforters, and generally excellent above-the-marriott-standard accomodations.
the only minuses: it was a little bit of a walk to waterloo station, but that's okay. the walk to our actual room on the 3rd floor was bizarre. since the hotel used to actually be the county hall that housed parliament, the layout obviously wasn't meant to suit weary travelers. our room was located about 500 feet from the elevator. at one point, we were so tired of the walk that we basically gave up on dinner. my lazy ass wished there was a people mover, but thoughts like that scare me because i suddenly imagine myself in someone's basement, playing magic and smelling like i haven't showered in a week.
great hotel, lovely location, lots of good restaurants nearby, and exceptional customer service. what more can you ask for? i'll definitely be back! -
Review from Kate B.
I would definitely stay here again if I could afford it. The County Hall Marriott had a great location, comfortable beds and a nice pool. My sister in-law and her family live in the Yorkshire and when visiting them, we all went down to London and stayed here. The staff were very friendly, and the kids loved the pool. The location was fantastic for sightseeing especially when you are trying to see things with 2 small children in tow. The only draw back is that it is a VERY expensive place and then on top of that they try to charge 15 pounds per day for internet! Ouch, that is not such a reasonable price.

Review from D S.
This is tough - two stars or three? I'll decide at the end of writing this.
Great things about this hotel:
- Entrance: grand tranquility and grace. Come in off the busy streets and you immediately feel calm.
- Staff & Service: very attentive and helpful
- Gym & Spa: one of the absolute, best gyms I have ever seen in a hotel. There is a proper 25 meter pool without the chemicals often found in hotel pools.
- Views: this is obvious.
- Room Size: for London, it is sadly spacious.
- Bar: great view
Wow, feel like maybe four or five stars at this point...but wait.
Things I would change:
- "Executive Lounge": one of the worse I have seen in a hotel. Broken computers, closed space, anemic offerings, unclean space, need I say more...
- Noise: what do you get for an upgrade price? a view with a lot of street noise of people at two am enjoying the eye. Fire alarms...yes they worked yesterday and they still work today.
- Internet & Phone Service: As if 300GBP is no enough, the price for internet (15GBP/day) and phone (3GBP PER MINUTE!) is a proper shakedown.
- Bed: I experienced two different rooms, both with lumpy beds.
- Five star hotel on what and whose scale? There is better in London.
- One Elevator Location: only one way to get to the rooms which can be a loooong walk to your room.
The only way I would stay here again is with a great room rate and I do not actually have to do work (internet and telephone calls).
Two stars if you are on a business trip
Three stars for a personal personal trip
I'll be generous and round up to three stars. -
Review from Tom I.
What can I say, this is a 5 start hotel. Service was simply just amazing. you get what you paid for. We attended a function there and we enjoyed great bar service and food was awesome. Will visit them again (as long as we can afford...)

Review from Matt L.
This is an extremely nice hotel.
+ The rooms have outstanding views of the Thames, Westminster, Big Ben and the London Eye.
+ Great staff.
+ Great location.
- They have a 100% smoke free policy. I would note however that they do not seem to enforce it very well. I could smell cigarette smoke for most of my stay, and the porter admitted that they secretly allow guests to smoke in certain rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors.
- Owing to the unusual shape of the County Hall building, your room might be 3-4 minutes walk from the elevator.
