I'm not quite sure how to fully review this hotel, but it definitely wasn't that bad. The outside is very unattractive and dated, but the inside is definitely nice. The lobby has marble floors and other "more-updated" cosmetic changes. The staff is friendly and bi-lingual which is helpful for those of us who don't speak much French. The rooms are ok. Nice granite counters, modern furnishings, and a beautiful view of the river and park, but still slightly small and nothing fantastically special. I would research a hotel thoroughly before booking, and decide if you want an "old world charm" feel (which this hotel doesn't have) or a more modern feel (which this hotel has tried hard to create). A place to look into and stay at if you're into it!

Great , central location.  As others have stated, it's a bit on the dated side but seems to be holding up a bit better than other large hotels of similar vintage.

The food at the rotating restaurant on the top was OK but nothing that knocked our socks off.  An easy stumble from Chez Dagobert for you youngsters (and don't make the mistake we made and go back to Dagoberg when you are 25 - you'll feel ancient and creepy)

This is an aging early 70's monster of a hotel but it could be much worse. Luckily it is in very nice surroundings and is not as out-of-place as you would expect. It has on one side a large park that brings to mind Central Park, a nice quiet street with a well landscaped median in front and a busy street of restaurants, bars and clubs on the other side. Perfect.

The place seems to cater to groups which can be annoying at times because they only have four elevators which can cause large log-jams.

In the somewhat dated lobby they seem to have a disused restaurant/bar space with a view to the park and an area for outdoor seating that had me wishing it was open and full of people.

The genius is the fourth floor swimming pool. While it could use a update, it was clean and modern feeling. A great place to spend an evening.

Rooms are as you would expect from a hotel this old. Only cosmetic changes have been done so it's a problem that the bathroom doesn't have an exhaust fan. The tub seems to be where the makeover money ran out. It was right out of a motel 6. The sink did have a granite countertop though.

I liked having an all automatic coffee maker in the room but the housekeeping staff had trouble resupplying it. Housekeeping was spotty as well with cleaning. I found a pair of Nikes in the closet (not my size) when I checked in. I left them for the next guest. Maybe they'll be size nine.

Nothing special here and even though it has been recently refurbished (or so I've been told) it isstill  a little dated in my opinion.

As others have said it is an ugly hotel, something you would expect in Disney World.  It looks out of place in Quebec.

I was on a high floor with a view of the Citadelle and the old city so that is very nice. I also got an OK rate (around 150 a night for a premium room in July.) The location is excellent for enjoying the city and there are many restaurants in the area if you do not feel like walking down to the old city. (BTW - the restaurants are somewhat expensive and the most seem to be Italian.)

I did not have any robes in the rooms ( I have read rave reviews of this hotel and the robes on other sites, not sure what those people were smoking.) The marble bathroom was not impressive a minimum they need to add new curved shower rods like all the other hotels.

A family really needs two queen beds or a king bed and a sofa bed.
Two double beds really does not work well.
The beds are also very uncomfortable, I guess I am used to staying in Starwood hotels with their new comfortable beds.

The service was very good and the staff is multilingual (BTW: I have not had any language issues in Quebec or Montreal - or in France for that matter - every one was polite and spoke English after I greeted them in French - The only word I know is bonjour.)

When you check in make sure you look to see if any events are going on in the lobby. They had free appetizers and wine in the lobby at 2:30-4 but did not bother to inform us when we checked in so we missed it.
I am a little annoyed by that.

    Other Issues:
There is only an ice machine on the 4th floor. One ice machine for the entire hotel!!
The elevators are a problem here. They are slow and stop on random floors. On several occasions all the buttons were pressed and we had to stop at every floor.

Update: After speaking with the manager abut our bad meal in the restaurant and the issue with check in we were given breakfast for three n the restaurant. As I stated the service in the hotel is very good and I appreciate their efforts

This hotel has wonderful views and an excellent location.  However, the decor is tired and dated and the service patchy.

We requested a cot for the room, and while assured it would be no problem, it took three requests to make it happen.  The cot was very old and the mattress offered little support - it was not worth the extra charge.

Another problem was that our "non-smoking" room had clearly been a smoking room in the past.  It smelt terrible, not something that would be expected from a high-end hotel.  Coffee was provided in the room, but no tea-making facilities.

This place doesn't live up to the luxurious reputation.  It may be worth it if the view and location are main considerations and if there is a good deal going.

I stayed here for a few nights and found it to be clean, comfortable, and with friendly staff. Nothing really sttod out to me good or bad. It's walking distance to the walled portion of the city, and also adjacent to a park which is great for walkers/runners.

This hotel happily welcomed our pugs. We had requested connecting rooms with our kids. They told us that they couldn't guarantee, but would try to get them close together. Upon check-in the best they said they were able to do was to get us 4 rooms apart (our room, then three rooms in between, the our 2nd room). The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel is directly across from the biggest part in the country, so it was ultra convenient for walking the dogs. The hotel is within walking distance of everything in old city including the free Cirque du Soleil performance on Satruday nights. We would stay here again.
