Review from Scott P.
Today I fell in love several times and that was just walking in the door looking at the most beautiful staff and customers. Ahh but it didn't stop there because I had the most amazing tuna club sandwich ever. I was a bit skeptical having melted cheddar cheese and fresh Ahi tuna all in one bite but it worked.
This is a great spot to go if you want to have a great view of people and enjoy some outside space while savoring a bit of "higher class" pub fare.
Nice job guys I will certainly come back for the above mentioned. -

Are those Nachos in your pants or are you just happy to see me?
Okay, so admittedly I'd never actually put nachos in my pants. That's ridiculous and these are expensive jeans, yo. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to have a love affair with these nachos. I'd take them out dancing, tell them how they sparkle in the light, tell them all the luscious things I want to do with them...
Like eat them excessively. And tell them how HUGE THEY ARE (which is good, because everybody wants a piece, if you know what I mean...how could you not know what I mean?). The chips are made fresh, the chicken is delicious and there's this yummy bbq type sauce that they put on (amongst the sour cream, and other deliciousness)
Luckily, I never go to Local alone and thus encounter no shortage of hands playing grab a** with this cherished dish, after all I DO have to keep a moderately appropriate figure. They're a little on the expensive side at about $18 but like I said huge, so I usually do a threeway...er...split three ways.
And speaking of other people, Local is an always place to go with a rowdy bunch. Whether you want to play "guess the pictures" in the caps of the Mickey's beers, watch a game from any of massive TVs, or chill out on the patio. It's basically like cheers, only trendier, full of more good looking people, and well, I'm not sure anyone actually knows my name - though the wait staff is always amazing when I'm there. Especially if you're fun with them. It's kind of like dating that way. The more fun everybody is, the more fun is had.
My obsession with the nachos is reaching epic proportions as I've been to Local something like 10 times and have only once gotten anything other than my beloved. One time I got the chicken sandwich...I thought it was good, but not great, though my friend swears by it like it was made of gold.
However, while I recommend the nachos with everything in my being, I strongly suggest you never get the chips and salsa. They serve a warm salsa (which, sorry guys, is gross enough to begin with but coupled with the fact that it's like a mixture of spaghetti sauce and salsa it borders on disgusting...and I'm not a picky eater but mamma takes her salsa seriously). The waitress told me some people love it, but I live in a world where some people lie in dating profiles so really, some people are ridiculous. Say no to warm salsa.
All in all, Local is an awesome place to go and hang out. Just remember if you go on a Friday or Saturday night it can get really packed with drunk 20 somethings and if that's not your scene, make sure you get a booth (you won't even notice them) but do not I REPEAT, do not sit at the tall boy tables because drunk people don't respect boundaries and you're liable to go to the washroom and come back to find you the current is flowing against you and someone is rudely lounging in your chair. -
Review from Chad P.
Love Local! I've been here multiple times and I always have a great time.
If you are coming to watch the game, there is no bad seat in the house because there are TVs everywhere. The patio is also really nice - heated perfectly when it's colder and an awesome view when it's open during the summer. Even if you aren't coming for a game, it's still just a great place to drink and hang out. Lot's of energy and it's a fun crowd.
Food is above average. I recommend the fish tacos. I always get them. Calamari is also pretty solid. Pretty good beer selection as well.
I must say that the servers here are just drop dead gorgeous. And they provide good service lol.
As for bathrooms, instead of just a men's or women's bathroom they have like 8 individual bathrooms. It's pretty sweet and helps avoid lines.
I only took 1 star away because sometimes the waits can be a little long because it's so popular and packed. -
Review from Namit M.
Surprisingly decent food for what I always assumed to be a watering hole. They have two burgers - and I recommend going for the smaller hand pressed pattie. Its not that small and the topping are great. Good beer on tap, decent atmosphere. Alll in all an excellent option after the beach.

Review from Jacob K.
In one short week, I have found the two near-perfect burgers, one of them being the one at Local.
It was everything I could have imagined and more. I had the deluxe. The patty itself was fresh, tasty and juicy, impressive given that it was made with ground chuck. An excellent patty to bun ratio. The patty was slightly peeking over the bun and I did not find myself with excess bread. Local erased memories of my last burger outing.
The bacon was crispy, just the way I like it. As was the pickle. Both give the burger that little bit extra snap to it. A very nice contrast to the soft, delicious patty.
Always order the yam fries. Aside from the benefit of the beta-carotene, the yam fries come with mayonnaise infused with truffle oil. Truffle oil really does make everything better.
If you do discard my advice and order regular fries instead of yam, they are nice and crispy, and not overly fried. Such is the magic of Local.
Service was a bit slow; that's to be expected on a beautiful Easter Monday afternoon. The restaurant was packed and given its appearance, I can only imagine that the burger was handmade. Well worth the wait though. I'm already counting the days until my next visit. -

Review from Tim L.
The last time I was back in town this place was still Malones which definitely didn't have as refined of an atmosphere as it does now as Local.
That's always nice and the little sign on the front desk to seat yourself balances this place out with an easy-going casual feel.
Met up with an old friend here to catch up and was surprised at how despite the amount of people in here, the significantly outnumbered staff were still able to keep up and provide a good level of service.
We never had to wait long to get our orders of food and drink and they came around whenever we were low to see if we'd like another.
The music can get a little overly loud at times, but it does seem like they notice and adjust down the volume.
Plenty of TVs on the walls for those that need to catch their sports and the variety of customers here ranges from young to old and all walks of life.
Overall its an enjoyable place, the service is good and the prices are right. -

I decided to be a rebel one night...so I made BH drive all the way out to Kits Beach, park in a not-too-well-lit parking lot and walk into a pub without consulting Yelp. Actually we went to Hapa Kits first, but that's another story. So walk in we did to the Local Public Eatery on a busy Friday night for drinks, more appys and a more casual game 'tude than Hapa.
The place was bopping, a Canucks game was on, but they still managed to seat us within 5 minutes and give us great service. Prices were super reasonable and the beer specials were great. My yam fries with truffle oil and grana padano was also very nice.
We were both pleasantly surprised...me to discover decent pub food for a resto chain and BH at the super hot nymphs who dropped off and picked up plates at our table. Make no mistake; this place is man cave. The whole pub was filled with these out-of-this-world gorgeous female servers who all had the same ectomorph body type (also known as "long and lean") characteristic of wannabe supermodels. So obviously, the whole place was also filled with men of all shapes, sizes and inclinations and it made for a very festive atmosphere (however which way you define "festive"). At the end of the night, I found myself telling my better half to "tip more" because our server was super hot, which he found hilarious. I guess to sum up this place, they get props for decent food even when they can get away with having more memorable servers than the food. -
Review from Vincci L.
How did I not visit this awesome place before? Now that it's Fall and I ponder back to the days of summer patio season, this place stands out amongst others.
Right by the beach, the patio is always full. A beautiful view, right in front of you. There's always a wait, but it's totally worth it.
I recommend trying the Tuna Club Sandwich:seared Ahi tuna, smoked bacon, avocado, and melted cheddar. Everything goes perfectly together. Soo good. Comes with your choice of regular or yam fries. Get the yam fries, and ask for the truffle oil mayo. Yes, truffle oil mayo.
Basking in the sun, with a pint of Grapefruit ale, a delicious burger, and you've got the definition of summer. -

...it was crunchy, fresh and hot. A very good chicken sandwich
Nice, nice buns!!!
Room is clean, servers are clean - beer lines are clean.
WIN WIN WIN.
The view of the ocean does not suck, either. -
Review from Rohan S.
I can see why this was voted as one of the best patio's in Vancouver. It's big open, and has a great view of the beach, ocean and mountains.
I was told the Caesar's here were fantastic, and they did not disappoint. The addition of horseradish was a nice touch.
The day we were there the place was packed. We managed to find a table on the patio, unfortunately it was next to table of drunken frat boys (but I suppose it takes all kinds).
The food there is pretty good. Their shoestring cut fries are quite tasty (although I think they were a little over cooked) and their chicken burger is quite well done. It's more meat than batter, -

I mean the following comment literally. Do not read it as hyperbole: The nachos and brownie were among the best we've ever had (and we've had a lot). Here's the conversation at our table for the time when the brownie was there:
Wow.
Oh my God.
{Nom, nom.}
Holy moly.
Sh*t this is good!
{Slurp.}
Hey, slow down, you're eating faster than me. You're going to eat all, f^ck$r!

Wow!

I've been a few times, every time the food has been amazing (especially the veggie burger), drinks have been great and always great atmosphere. The only place they lost a star was the servers...they seem very rushed and annoyed if you don't give them your order the second they arrive at the table. It's always super packed in there so I'd probably be the same!
I definitely recommend this place and will be back! -

I love this place!: the atmosphere, the food, and the great selection of beer. Be warned that it can be lively (read loud or fun, depending on your preference) and too crowded to get your favorite table (or any table) because this place is that good.
To the folks who gave this place two or three stars just because it was packed: Seriously? You're slamming on a place because it's too popular? -

Awesome place right on the beach. During the summer the patio is always packed and you have to wait for it. I've never had to wait long for the inside tables though.
The waitresses are always friendly and prompt with food and drinks. Their famous drink seems to be the Caesar which comes in a boot, and has a lot of vegetables in it. One girl I went with said it was the most amazing Caesar she ever had, well another didn't like the over use of veggies in her drink... so it might be up to personal preference. I'm not a Caesar fan myself. They have a fair amount of mix drinks and beers available too.
The thing that stands out most about this place for me are the burger buns. They are DELICIOUS, and soft. Must be home-made or something, but they are the best buns I've had at a restaurant. I always tell my friends to go and try them. The vegetarian burger is also a home-made patty and one of the best vegetarian burgers I have ever tasted. The delcious bun it has was just the tip of the icing for me. Great place and I highly suggest it. -

As a lifetime Vancouverite I was excited when it Local opened, replacing hallowed if dingy and gross Malone's. I love the decor and I like that the menu is a map with factoids about Kitsilano. I dislike how limited the menu is. But for this sauce loving vegetarian, it doesn't get much better than their heuvos rancheros which are literally coated in homemade salsa. And their veggie burger is hands down the best veggie burger I have ever had in my 10 or so years of being a vegetarian. Suggestion: order it on toasted sourdough with a side of BBQ sauce.
The main reason I won't give it more than 3 stars is symptomatic of its success; it is too busy to get tables half the time, even though I truly epitomize a local and am there quite a bit. That said, it is a great place, always filled with fun, attractive young people and they have even started to carry tomato juice for me so I can have Bloody Mary's while everyone else sips on their trademark Caesars, which come in a boot, with an olive, spicy bean and pepperoni stick.
Caveat: it is good for groups depending on how busy it is. If you have a large group send someone in early or else you're likely out of luck. -
Review from Emma L.
This isn't really my sort of place -- I'm not the type to hit up big bars, or go out to watch the game -- but I have to say that their menus are adorable (maps of Vancouver!) and we were given excellent service.
I also enjoyed the $4 glass of wine. Well, okay, maybe several. -
Review from Anthony C.
Please note: just had one beer.
Went here for opening night on Friday, Nov. 20th. A friend was celebrating his new job so I stopped in for a beer with him and other congratulators.
The beer was good - had a Storm IPA. I like that they're serving local beer on tap and they do have a good selection.
I didn't eat, so I can't comment on the food.
I give it only 2 stars because the atmosphere left much to be desired. It was super crowded, being opening night and all, full of barbie and ken dolls all looking the same... lots of Ed Hardy and Affliction t-shirts. Lots of blondes in high heels with silicon and tiny handbags (men buy big expensive cars, women buy tiny expensive bags, you've heard what they're paying to make up for, right?). Not to rain down criticisms from my cloud of judgment or anything - just not my scene.
To give it some credit: my waitress was really good even though it was crazy busy. Girl-next-door pretty with an authentic smile - somewhat of a rarity.
Despite the waitress, I won't be back :( -

Although busy and loud, Local has a great energy and atmosphere. Its difficult to get a table right away, but having a drink at the wood is a great way to kill impatience.
I've been several times since the opening, and have not been disappointed with the service or the food. Yam Fries with the Truffle Mayo are the best in the city. Burgers are delish. Nachos, huge. The service is really friendly, very girl next door as someone else commented. Can't beat the cheap brewskies and the $4 glass of vino.
It definitely draws the 'scene' crowd and is not the dive, hipster joints the Kits is known for. The cool kids still hang out here. Its a chain after all! It will be a great patio in the summer. -
Review from Janice F.
Really loud, really packed! Be prepared to yell to be heard, but if that doesn't deter you then head here for the newest pub hotspot.
Nice improvement from the previous Malone's, plenty of TV's all around.
Great beer selection, love the $4 glasses of wine and surprisingly above par food.
Enjoyed a generous plate of crispy, non-greasy calamari and yam fries with truffle mayonnaise - very good. Lovely to get a a mayo refill without asking for it!
Not recommended for a date night, it is really very loud - almost as loud as a club! -
Review from Allison F.
The have drinks in glasses shaped like boots. BOOT GLASSES!
Had dinner here on Friday as we were meeting coworkers for drinks after work. Arrived around 4pm and had our choice of tables. I ordered the cheeseburger and the boyfriend continued his quest of poutine-only meals. The Local's comes with blue cheese and so he was stoked.
My burger was super hot and they use a fancy medium white cheddar that was a nice twist. The poutine was unusual and quite salty, with sun-dried tomatoes added in the mix. Cover your eyes if you're from Quebec!
Drinks are delicious and they have a full mix of beers and cocktails. Reasonably priced, for sure. I stuck to 'Lucky Lemonades' and was in heaven. JD and lemonade = a good Friday. They also offer a $4 glass of white or red wine. They don't tell you what kind it is but a coworker had a few and never came across a bad glass.
It gets super busy in here and so I understand people not being such a fan of not being able to find a table. I think the patio and a warm sunny night would be the only things to better my experience here. -

Great addition to kits.. an upgrade from Malones for sure!
The new heated patio with tv's is opening this week which will increase the seating space. Great location right by the beach.. sure this place will be packed in the summer... although it's busy already!
More of an older, trendy crowd than the other watering holes in kits that seem to be taken over by hipsters these days.
Some big booths and a long table in the middle to accommodate groups, although they don't take reservations. Plan to arrive early on weekends or to watch a game. Lots of tv's.
Haven't tried much of the food as I've just been for drinks but both the Calamari and Fully loaded nachos (with pulled chicken) were tasty and generous portions for sharing.
Good drink specials for the area.. something is on every night for under $5. I recommend the cocktails served in the boots glasses, esp the El Caesar (comes with a pepperoni stick).
Service is probably keeping it from a 5 star rating at this point, hopefully the bugs will get worked out as the staff gets more experience. A little slow... also a friend I was with was served a very flat beer and got too much resistance when sending it back.
All and all I'll def add this to my list of go-to places to check out a game or meet friends for a drink before heading out.Listed in: Places to watch the game &…

It's part of the Joey's chain so I was a little put off that it's another chain restaurant, but really, that concern was totally unfounded. For watching a game, this place is awesome. Huge, high def screens packed in everywhere. Large comfortable seating and a great casual atmosphere. Both trendy and kind of funky at the same time.
The location is stellar, across from Kits Beach and now that the patio is open this has to be one of the best patios in Vancouver. Beautifully done out with really comfortable outdoor booths with lovely tree interrupted views of the ocean.
And speaking of views, like Joey's, Cactus Club, etc. Every server here is stunning. I'm just saying. Nice thing is that they are also genuinely friendly and helpful too. I have only had good experiences with service.
Okay, the food. It is like pub food notched up to another level. Excellent, huge burgers, really amazing nachos and original and different sandwiches. I tried the seared tuna sandwich which was amazing. Really, really good yam fries. Great beer selection too.
Also went for Brunch one sunny Saturday morning. Sat on that patio and I was in heaven. Food was very good. Found the benny sauce a little on the rich side for me, but the eggs were perfect and the home fries were good and crunchy. Maybe a little over fried for my taste, but still good.
We also had their breakfast sandwich which was outstanding. Egg, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado on griddled sour dough.
Coffee was very good, but you have to ask for refills which they give you, but they bring you a new cup. Small thing, but I like it when the server pops by with a flask of coffee to fill you up before you need to ask.
Here's a tip. It's not on the menu, but they do a normal bacon and eggs as well. The server warned me that they don't serve the toast with any jam though. What? Would it kill them to have a little jam in the house? Strange.
Otherwise, really great place. Highly recommend it and for watching a game, amazing.
Notice they have just installed an outdoor shower beside the patio. How nice. People can rinse of their sandy feet before they enter. Or is there some other plan for this shower?? -

was I ever excited when I saw Malone's was being replaced, but the joy didn't last when I realized a chain was going in (Local is part of the Joey's group) but thought I'd give it a try for weekend brunch.
Not sure how to delicately put this, but not only are all the waitstaff thin, busty girls, but they don't seem to be the sharpest knives in the drawer - service-wise anyway.
I had the huevos rancheros from their very limited brunch menu, which was eggs in tomato pasta sauce served with tortilla chips. Not very tasty, head to Zen Cafe for amazing Huevos...
The service was slow, our server forgot to bring coffee multiple times, and we had to keep asking.
I'll give them another try though! -

My experience was pretty short lived when I went to Local for the first time 2 days ago. They were rushing us because they knew we weren't staying for the game.
We were seated in a relatively comfortable section but the hostess proceeded to clump as many more people down as they could. No longer comfortable..
The service was pretty decent and the menu is small but things sounded good. I wasn't about to pay $17 for a sandwich so my friend and i settled on a plate on nachos. Good choice.
Overall I think I'd only go back if someone else was taking me but I wouldn't suggest it on my own. -

Definitely read Janice F's review, that described my night pretty well.
This place is a GREAT place to watch a Canucks game. The TVs are new, sharp, huge, and plenty, with very loud play-by-play when the game is on. -

The food is okay. I had the side salad and the chicken tacos which was tasty and fresh, but not amazing. My Mom had the chicken chopped salad and swore it was fantastic.
The best part about this place is the amazing number of huge TVs for watching the hockey game; in fact, the day after the Canucks lost their series in the playoffs, I walked by the restaurant and some of the players were chilling on the outdoor patio!
The atmosphere is a bit noisy especially when it's game night, but the design of the restaurant is beautiful.
If you're thinking about going, I'd say give it a try! -

I feel like new restaurants are popping up everywhere and I'm running to keep up with them all!
However, I am happy that I found LOCAL. Very happy. The decor is funky and goes so well with the name (you'll understand when you go there)... and well, what could make me more happy than a $4 glass of wine - GOOD WINE. Seriously - they don't tell you what wine, which region, or what grapes - but the taste is pretty good (and let's be honest, that's all that really matters).
So I went here after work for drinks with a friend, and of course, we wanted to try food... so we ordered the "Duo of Dips" - first of all, it's quite large, second of all - THEY MAKE THE GUACAMOLE AT YOUR TABLE the way you like it. YUM!
I could get used to this service, food, and price. -

North Vancouver, BC
If you are looking to have a few beers with friends on a nice patio in a can't-beat-it location, Local is an excellent choice. The patio is very nice with couches to sit on and the option of tables as well. Unfortunately if you show up during prime-time you are going to have trouble getting one of these popular seats and may get stuck inside. Also catering to the locals and people coming off the beach is a shower to wash the sand off outside and a little area to tie up your dog.
Drink menu is good - there is a nice selection to choose from and glasses of wine start at $4. The food however is really unimpressive. I've tried a few things off the menu and haven't really found anything I liked.
If you happen to be looking for a casual pub to spend your Friday night in, I don't know if Local is your place to go. The music inside is so loud you can't have a conversation and I think it's safe to say that it's the stomping ground on weekend nights for men who worship Ed Hardy and women who spend hundreds of dollars to look like boho hippies, which personally is not my taste.
All in all if you were at the beach and there isn't a wait for the patio or you have guests in town looking for a nice place to enjoy a cold beer, Local is an excellent choice. If you are looking to have a nice meal with friends and you have to sit inside because the patio is full, I would look around for somewhere else instead. -

I've been here 3 times, I'm ready to tell you what I've found.
The locaton, as others have noted, is awesome. They have a patio (with heaters) that overlooks kits, and that's bound to be a good thing.
They have a beautiful restaurant, the bar is gorgeous and in the center of the room, so you can sit anywhere around it.
The beer - they have a lot of different microbrews and selections, so if you're a beer-lover, you're going to be covered.
The food -: I've only ever had the burger. Twice. It's a thing of beauty, so large I couldn't finish it. The only thing that wasn't awesome was the beef patty itself, which I found to be a bit dry and mealy, almost like they mixed breadcrumbs in there..ick. -
Review from Simon K.
The name makes you think they serve food, it's more of a liquid food place, but with a very good atmosphere. I have not been here ever since this place was Malone's and I was liking how they have revitalized the place. Big LCD television's all on sports, big booths for groups, and the place was not too cramped. Add to all of the above the price for a pint of beer (usually $5.50), and this place is a good place to just have a drink.
The place is definately situated on prime realestate, right on the corner across from Kits beach, on beautiful sunny days, and primetime don't expect to find seats. Also even at the time I was there, which was about midnight, it was pretty loud, so if your looking for a place to talk, go to the other places. But if your looking for a place to drink, and to look at people, you've found the right place. -

LOVE this place. love love love. i don't live even remotely close but make the trip all the way to kits just for this place. first of all, it's owned by joey's, which kind of evident in their menu, plating and the below mentioned ectomorphic servers. the food though, is absolutely to die for and pretty good value. the burgers are sublime, and that drink in the boot with the lemonade and whiskey? YUM. it's also got a laidback chill vibe and gets pretty busy most nights. also, if you order the guacamole, a guy will come to your table with avocado and limes and actually make it. sweet.

Review from Doug G.
A happening pub in the middle of the Kits Beach action.
Don't go here if you are hoping for a solid menu. Why call it an "eatery" if it's really more about drinking? Four stars are for location and service. As a pub it's a great place filled with loud, good looking people and good service. It's an EXTREMELY light menu - if you don't like hamburgers you won't likely be impressed. If you like hamburgers (I don't), then there's a good selection and apparently they are great. My Mango Chicken Salad (one of the few non-hamburger offerings) was uninteresting -- tasteless mango pieces, and a lot of other stuff all of which was as tasteless as the mango. It's also not a desert place -- they only have a brownie and nothing else.
Definitely if you are looking for a happening pub right beside Kits beach, you will want to check this place out. It's the place to hang out for drinks and to people watch. If it's a nice day, take a table indoors but ask to be placed on the list to be moved to patio seating when it's available. Otherwise it's a LONG wait.
If you are looking for more of a full meal, the Boathouse on Kits Beach is a better bet. -

I really really tried to like The Local. I live basically across the street by the beach, and I was so excited to have a new place close to my house, but I would rather trek to any other restaurant than this one. Nothing is wrong with the food or the drinks - in fact, their beer selection is better than most pubs/restaurants in the area - but the vibe just doesn't impress me. I feel like it's trying way too hard to be trendy but it just ends up feeling pretentious to me? I'm not sure why. and it is definitely really loud there most nights, whether there's a game on or not.
Give it a try, it'll be packed this summer with all of the beach traffic, that's for sure! See for yourself, you might love it. -

Love this place! Amazing patio and excellent service. Also the perfect place to watch the game... so many places have the volume up SO loud that you can't even scream a conversation at your friends, but this place finds a happy medium. Loud enough to hear whats going on, but can still carry on a convo.

Location, Location, location... is the biggest thing going for the Local. Big views of the water, beach and kits eye candy. We only had one item and a couple of beers the servers played a role in the eye candy, but the food didnt. I cant really judge a restaurant based on one menu item (calamari ) the food orders that I was able to eye up seemed like standard middle of the road pub quality... But did I say location yet.
Very good floor layout, with a indoor outdoor bar, heaters, patio half covered half open, tons of TV screens, and a great location... -
Review from Sarah A.
Excellent burgers and fries and decent prices on the daily drink specials. Always packed to the max and loud, but these things are to be expected at a pub. Very convenient location.
