Review from Todd V.
Toronto, ON
I came across this place in Ottawa because I had just finished a huge rollerblade on one of the many closed-off streets on a Sunday and needed some brunch. Being completely stinky and sweaty, and not wanting to bring my funk to the line-up at Cora's (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), we opted for the patio at Local Heroes.
I was promptly reminded that I was here before for a stag-and-doe party but this was the first time that I'd taken part in the patio. It's very unassuming, flanked on either side by beach volleyball courts which, normally in use, sat vacant. The patio itself is big and exposed, with no tables sprouting umbrellas or parasols for shade. It's pretty sparse. You can also play the game of "Try and Find a Table with Matching Patio Chairs". It's a hard one.
The food is pretty much what you'd expect for a sports bar. Unassuming, decent, bread-and-butter fare. There's a decent run of taps and a good number of TVs to watch the Sens on. The fact that it's a decent hike from the feeder neighbourhoods surrounding it makes it a bit awkward to get to, but if you stay and celebrate a Sens win, the walk home in the cold Ottawa air may just do you some good.
