Visited with my girlfriend in late May 2012. What attracted us was the gorgeous view of Northumberland Strait, and the fish market next door. I had the Fish & Chips. One large sized slice of tempura fried haddock. Along with this was fries and coleslaw. I wish there had been a bit more fish, but it was very good. The fries were average and the coleslaw was good, but had a strong fishy taste.

My girlfriend has the lobster roll, which was decent sized, with an adequate amount of lobster. She said it tasted just fine.

It was very windy but very warm, we ate outside and the view really is gorgeous. Nothing to rave about, just a solid place to get seafood.

It was windy today, so windy the captain decided to anchor out and tender in the passengers who wanted to go ashore.  Windy enough that when we got off the tender we were nearly blown off our feet.  We hadn't had lunch on the ship, intending to have PEI mussels where they're freshest.  After wandering through the shed looking at the sweatshirts and other homemade wares, we went out toward town.  Lobster on the Wharf was the first place we saw and we headed for it.

This is not a shiny new chain restaurant.  It's got a patina of age, particularly the seating on the long, narrow deck which was currently being blown by the wind.  Inside it was cozy w/ wooden floors and nautical artifacts.  There are windows all around.  I looked over the menu and there were my mussels, about a pound of them for $10.  Alan decided on a lobster roll, which came w/ a side Greek salad.  I ordered a side salad for myself.  The mussels were cooked w/ white wine and garlic and they were plump and tasty.  Alan said the lobster roll was good, but not as good as Red's in Wiscassett, our Gold Standard.  The Greek salads were OK, w/ lots of vegetables, feta cheese, Kalamata olives and a little too much dressing.  Alan had a local dark beer and liked it a lot.  It was just the lunch we had hoped for.  Service was upbeat and friendly.

This seafood market and restaurant on the wharf offers good waterfront views of Northumberland Strait. There's table seating in the casual dining room (Hillsboro Room), lounge (Southport Room), and in the Fairview Room upstairs. There's also outdoor seating out on the wharf and on the decks.

We arrived here on a cloudy Thursday evening for dinner. Since it was a bit nippy outside, we were seated in the casual dining room, which has wood floors and high ceilings, sounds of echoing conversations taking place. It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to appear and we were already to order. We ordered two diet pops ($1.99 each) and the meal is described next.

STARTERS: The Mussels On The Wharf ($8.99), 15 mussels served with butter & lemon were good and fresh. The Ferryman's Chowder ($8.99) was served warm with a creamy mixture of scallops, minced clams, salmon, haddock, & potatoes and topped with melted butter and a cheese biscuit, not much chowder for the price. The Garden Salad ($7.99) was fresh and a pretty good portion. Rolls and butter were given to us

ENTREES: The Fish & Chips ($12.99) was a generous portion of tempura battered haddock, fries, a sweet minced cole slaw, and vegetable garnishes, which was pretty good and not too greasy. The Lobster Roll ($16.99) was served on a soft foccacia bread with a huge side of fresh Caesar salad (with bacon & croutons). The Caesar salad was pretty good, but there was very little lobster meat on the roll, mostly bread and lettuce on the plate.

We decided to forgo dessert and the bill came out to just over $80 with GST, PST, and tip.. The meal was good and the food was on the pricey side, but it's about the prime location overlooking the waterfront, eh. The service was decent throughout the meal. An overall 3.5 STARS for this review.

The view from this restaurant is the only thing worth any money. My wife and I were on vacation in the Atlantic provinces and this was our first "lobster feast." What an utter disappointment.  My wife had the "Lazyman's Lobster" which she said was "okay."

I had the "Lobster Risotto."  What came to the table was a BIG bowl of rice with perhaps 2 tablespoons of small lobster pieces sprinkled on top.  A rip-off.  At first I thought it was a joke!  $32.99 for a bowl of rice???  What was even worse was that the risotto was lousy.  $32.99 for EACH of us.  Total bill for a lobster dinner (so-called) for 2 people, 2 glasses of house wine, taxes included was $90.07. Date of our visit was September 19, 2008 at 8PM.

If you REALLY want a fine lobster dinner in Charlottetown stay FAR away from a tourist trap like "Lobster on the Wharf."  If you want a nice view visit the restaurant in the mid-afternoon when it's empty and have an appetizer on the patio.  Better yet, go downtown to Water Prince Corner Shop (corner of Prince and King Streets).  It looks totally understated, but is wonderful. You'll get TWO complete full cooked lobsters for approximately the same price as "Lobster on the Wharf" charged me for a bowl of rice.  And a heaping dish of potato salad on the side!
