Review from Alex P.
Last year for Christmas my fiancé got me a spa package from Lizard Creek Lodge. I'd never actually been to a spa for anything other than a haircut so I was both excited and nervous -- I didn't really know what to expect.
The package included a body wrap, 20 minute hydrotherapy bath, and a deep tissue massage. The package also included an aromatherapy add on -- I got to choose from a selection of essential oil blends and have that worked into my treatment.
The body wrap was an interesting experience but I'm not sure I would repeat it. I think part of the problem for me was that I had no idea what the ingredients were in the wrap (I'm sure if I asked they would have told me, but I didn't think to at the time). I also don't know how beneficial the wrap was for my particular skin type ... it was hard to tell post-bath as the heat from the bath water just dried my skin out again.
A note on the bath: the water was too hot. I was instructed that the temperature could be adjusted via the hot / cold water taps, and was shown the maximum water height for the tub. Well, I filled the tub with cold water up to that point and it was still too hot! It took a few minutes to get used to and then I was fine ... but my skin looked mighty angry when I got out. Maybe it's just me, but I found that part of the experience boring. Who wants to sit doing nothing in a tub for 20 minutes? Maybe if I had someone to talk to I would have felt differently.
The massage, on the other hand, was phenomenal. I had injured my shoulder tobogganing (don't judge me) the day before and the massage really helped to speed up my recovery. The amount of pressure was unexpected but enjoyable, and my massage therapist asked a couple times throughout the experience how the pressure was. In general, my massage therapist was excellent; she gave very clear instructions on what to do and she respected my privacy. The employees of the spa were great all-around, in fact, and I never felt uncomfortable or pressured in any way.
In the end I came out feeling fantastic. The oil from the massage took care of any dryness my skin was experiencing. This actually prompted me to start using almond oil as moisturizer, which has worked out quite well for me. I would definitely return for a massage if there comes a time when I need one!
