The lamb and lamb meat balls are very good. A year ago I didn't like this place do to the rude staff but thankfully that has changed. I enjoyed this franchise in China and am glad to see it locally here in Canada.

Came here for AYCE on a weeknight with my parents and wife and it's packed!
The quality of the meats are pretty good considering it's AYCE. Seafood was good too. An assortment to dumplings to choose from plus the usual beef, pork, chicken and lamb strips/fillets.
However, they charge for certain condiments now, such as green onions, fresh chilies and sesame oil. Really? Sesame oil? C'mon! Plus they charge for plum tea.
They seem to get most of your order right, but sometimes we'd have to remind them of missing items.
To summarize, this is a good pick for AYCE hot pot and still represents decent value. Great for winter nights! -

This restaurant name changed to Mongolian Hot Pot.
I didn't come back this restaurant for a year, however, we were shopped at the mall and too cold to go out to find another place for dinner. That's why we tried again.
I really don't like go to ANY AYCE restaurant coz it provides quantity of food NOT quality of food.
The soup base was good (MSG) and hot pot items were common for hot pot.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Vincci L.
Boo to no oysters on their AYCE menu. Since they've started offering AYCE, I've been hankering to try this place out.
A bit disappointed in the end result. Original soup broth is still as delicious, but the variety in the menu is what was lacking. Not many choices available, compared to other AYCE hot pot places. It was also hard to order because they didn't tell you the quantity of the items, so it was hard to gauge the portion size.
There's a self serve condiments bar which was good, but the sauces kept on emptying out due to people over indulging.
Service was a bit lacking as well-always to flag people down. Probably not my first choice in AYCE, but still coming back for their lunch hot pot combos.Listed in: Lunching in Richmond

I have to admit that I am not an expert on AYCE hotpot, because I've been to so few. Two in total is hardly any experience to build up a repertoire knowing all of the intricate nuances. I ended up coming here because family wanted to.
It tasted fine to me, so I guess in my books it's A-OK!
To note, these types of hot pot places have been multiplying like crazy of recent. not too sure why. -
Review from Larry L.
Now I find it is AYCE!!! The condiment bar was empty but they still have black fungus!!
I couldn't believe how quickly the condiments bar gets empty of all the good dipping sauces. As soon as it's filled up, a swarm of people crash in on that area and take as much as they can fill in their dishes to take back to their tables.
I was quite amazed by it all. There is no polite way about it. You almost have to fight for a spot! LOL.
With AYCE it seems that they 're busy every night now. It's more affordable than what it used to be, but when it gets busy it tough to get extra soup to replenish your stock.
There is a time limit, but the place is so large, I don't think they adhere to it too strictly.
but then again, we were there with Mr Hot Pot VIP.
I would say it's lost a star, but that's because I had a few pieces of dumplings and a beef ball that just grossed me out. Wasn't sure if it was the type of dumpling or meatball, but it didn't agree with my perticular palate.
If you read Amy T's review, I think she is spot on, cause she's cool.

I finally got to try the AYCE hotpot for dinner and I didn't get any wow factor. For 20 bucks plus broth ($10), there are other places that has more selection. Meat selection is ok. The seafood selection is basically down to mussels, cuttlefish, squid, and fish. I'm an oyster fan, so the lack of it when other AYCE Hot Pot offers them, brings it down another star. The House Special Broth is still pretty good though.

Review from Amy T.
I had a bad experience with this place a few years ago, but I have eaten here 3 more times since then and they were all memorable.
The meat and vegetables are incredibly fresh. I think I must have annoyed the table beside me since I was saying "Mmmmmm" after every bite. I love their bean curd slices as well. So soft and delicate, but didn't break apart while I scooped it out of the hot pot. We also ordered the geoduck and I think that is the only thing that wasn't 100% fresh.
The meal was still fantastic except for the geoduck and the price, which is quite a bit more than other hot pot restaurants. -

I'm usually not a fan of non-AYCE hot pot places. But this is a franchise chain from China and they seem to be pro hot potters. The prices were actually quite fair because you'd be amazed at the size of the plate that comes out when you order!
There's also plenty of mix and match on their menu in case you want a bit of everything without spending too much. At the end of the night it ends up costing more than AYCE but ALL your dishes are high-end meats, shrimp balls, tofus and veggies. The meat slices here are better than any other hot pot place because they are charging you for it. But seriously the plate is gigantic. I was so full. A+ for the AAA beef slices and succulent lamb.
Their special spicy soup was delicious. Very different from other hot pot places. A Mongolian style hot pot filled with a lot of different spices it was fragrant and mouth-watering.
My only complaint would be their sauce counter is bare. The green onions were all gone, they didn't refill it. Then there's only soy sauce, chili oil and cilantro. I like to have a lot more in my sauce, thumbs down for that. The sauce is the most integral part of my hot pot meal!
PRICE: On the higher end for a hot pot dinner. But worth it.
SERVICE: Hmm, slow. We were situated in the corner so we always had to flag someone passing by an aisle away.
SUGGEST: I'd try this place out at least once if you've never had their signature hot pot. Its a lot different then the run-of-the-mill AYCE hot pot in Richmond. You'll be happy to have the A+ dishes. Some places give you old cheap stuff to save money, these guys don't. -

Ever dream of having Chinese-style hot pot for LUNCH??? Dream no more. I have found just the place for you!
To be honest, there really isn't much to review on the food for hot pot restaurants - because you cook the food yourself. I guess the concerning factors would include: how fresh is the food, the variety of food available, and PRICE.
This restaurant has amazing lunch sets available. There are 7 different MINI HOT POT sets (designed for 1 person).
Set A - Vegetarian ( mushroom, bean curd, veggie dumplings, white noodles) $ 9.99
Set B - Meat Eater ( fatty beef, lamb shoulder, chives & pork dumpling, vegetables, white noodles) $10.99
Set C - Tradition ( lamb shoulder, beef omasum, meat balls, vegetables, white noodles) $10.99
Set D - House Special ( fatty beef, bean curd roll, fish tofu, vegetables, white noodles) $10.99
Set E - Heath Giving ( fatty beef, chicken fillet, mushrooms, vegetables, white noodles) $ 10.99
Set F - Seafood ( cod fillet, squid, shrimp balls, vegetables, white noodles) $10.99
Set G - G For Gold ( tiger prawns, cod fillet, lamb shoulder, mushrooms, vegetables, white noodles) $11.99
Tip:One set is satisfactory for 2 people, especially if you want to sample other menu items or if you are not big eaters.
Other menu items include: soup noodles, dumplings, steamed buns, and meat skewers.
BONUS FEATURE: The soup base is super-yummy! Not your run-of-the-mill clear broth with additives. Seems that the broth is actually boiled with quality Chinese herbs and ingredients. So rich and flavourful you don't even need dipping sauces for your morsels of food.Listed in: The Good Customer's Review

Review from Piao Piao L.
The past few years has seen a mini explosion of hot pot restaurants in Richmond. Let's see, there's "fatty cow", "little sheep", "chubby lamb", "cattle", how many others? This is the best of the bunch. This is a mainland chinese chain, not to be confused with the rip off "chubby lamb" hot pot nearby. Not that chubby lamb is bad, it's actually quite good, but this is the real deal.
As you walk into the restaurant, the fragrance hits and you are transported straight to China. The signature spicy pot is both ma (numbing )and la (spicy), a little skimpy on the ma but that's a small complaint. Nice variety of ingredients to choose from. We typically select the lamb, beef, frozen tofu, sweet potato, spinach, and noodle options. Pretty much everything is great. Some of the seafood sides can tend to overwhelm the flavor of the pot, but perhaps that's to some people's liking. Myself, the flavor of the pot is the main attraction, and I rarely even use the dipping sauces.
Service was good, price seemed fair, plenty of parking in the mall lot. What's not to like? I could eat here daily if my stomach would cooperate (it won't). -

Eaten at this location several times during our trips to Richmond. Never been disappointed. Food is fresh, dipping sauces are tasty, and service is above par.

We were in search for hot pot in Richmond. I was a little confused over the listing because the name of the hot pot place in Lansdowne mall with the same suite number is now called Mongolian Hot pot. The logo still has a little sheep though :)
After reading the reviews on Yelp, I fully expected bad service and that was correct. It was hard to get the waiters attention for water, chopsticks, napkins. One time we asked for more water, they brought more empty glasses...I'm not sure if it was the case. I mean this service is expected if the food was cheap or it was all you can eat...but thats what frustrates me about this place.
The food was pretty pricey! Between the 3 of us the bill came out to be $100! Really?? So, ok the food quality was really good. I mean the broth (we got the half spicy half not) was deeelicious and loaded with chili and garlic. I thought I could handle hot food but I must admit defeat here - it was so hot. The garlic beef was also amazing quality. The yam noodles were like nothing I've ever tasted - chewy, fresh, delicious. We also got the assorted meat balls, veggies, tripe, and dumplings but it didn't stand out as anything special.
Maybe I'd check this place out for the lunch special but this was definitely out of what I expect to pay for hotpot...especially for the crappy service. -
Review from Natasha L.
There are dozens of hot pot restaurant in Richmond and Little Sheep is one of my favorites. I love the soup base and the fact that I don't need any additional dipping sauce.. just something different. The downside is the price is not cheap if you are eating in smaller party (less than 4 people) since you have to pay around $8.95 just for the soup base.
We didn't managed to order more than 3 dishes since there were only 2 of us. The ingredients quality is nothing to complain or brag about. Hope I can come back here with larger group next time. -

Middling Hot Pot restaurant in Richmond.
After living in Chengdu, Sichuan (spicy hotpot central) for a couple months I fear I'm a bit jaded when it comes to other impostor hot pots. Still haven't found what I'm looking for in Vancouver. Anyhow, this restaurant does a fair job at it.
I was most curious to try it to see if it's the same as the one in Beijing since it's part of a small international chain. Surprisingly the one in Beijing was cleaner, more modern and had better service. The one in Richmond was acceptable but there wasn't really anything stand out about the service or food.
Hot pot tip: try corn (cob) in the hot pot, and don't forget the fish balls! -

Well, I've had to come back here a few times to confirm my experience. I couldn't say this without confirmation.
Food is tasty and the quality is good. If you come here with lots of time and don't mind waiting around, then you'll be good and satisfied. If, however, you are looking for a good dining experience that includes service, don't stop here. This is some of the worst service I've had (that is saying something too because I've been in a few placed with bad service).
We didn't get the promised "free refills" on the juice, even though we asked several different servers over the hour. They missed one of our ordered items which was interesting since you order by marking your items on a paper so we had marked it an they just didn't enter the item.
If you want dipping sauce, you'd better just forget it. I actually got up and went over to the bar to ask for it and they said it would be brought to the table-- nope.
Horrid service or lack thereof. Okay food. Horrible service (worth mentioning that twice)
Go experience it for yourself, but you've been warned. -
Review from Adam K.
Loved it. We stumbled upon this one and it is now a favorite... going back there today in fact. The half and half pot is the way to go - a little heat on one side and a more "standard" pot on the other. I am quickly becoming a hot pot fan and Little Sheep will be at the top of the list.
Looks like you could easily get a group in there. Private sitting rooms. Wait staff is pretty attentive as well. -

If you are trying this style of Mongolian Hot Pot for the first time I would recommend going @ lunch time for their set lunch around $11. You get the soup base, your Childe of meat, vegetables, chive dumplings, and noodles. Come to this place if you LOVE lamb.

If I can give a negative rating...I would.
Sat for over 20min before we even got a cup of tea on a monday night with a half empty restaurant. Had to wait for another 30 min before any food came out...forget about trying to get any dipping sauces.
The only mildly bright spot was the food was actually pretty good...however, there are plenty of hot pot places in richmond to choose from, and there are much better places.
WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO STAY FROM THIS PLACE -

I'm not a hot pot regular so I don't have much of a baseline but Little Sheep wasn't bad. Dropped in for a Sunday lunch just when it was opening (11am) so it was pretty empty but was starting to fill up with families around noon. We ordered 2 $10.99 hot pot lunch specials, "health giving" (beef, chicken, mushrooms, veggies, etc.) and "seafood" (shrimp ball, fish, etc.) - both come with noodles and plum juice. In terms of portions, 2 orders probably would have been enough for the 3 of us but we ended up ordering another beef noodle which we didn't finish. The soup base, sauces and food quality were good but the service was average. Pluses: it's in Lansdowne Centre so there are tons of parking and the restaurant seats almost 300 people (with 2 VIP rooms) so getting a table shouldn't be a problem. Check out the photos of the 2 specials and the beef noodle.
