Ive been to Lincoln Center several times for a number of things and its always been wonderful so I dont know which aspect to get into first.
The staff is good, for such a busy establishment holding multiple events, outreach programs, film fest, big performances, and concerts, they always know which direction of corner of the building its happening.
Besides its spellbinding structure inside  and, outside is just as nice to view - statues, fountains, manicured appearance always, gorgeous lighting at night.
I have fond groove filled memories and experiences always @ Lincoln Center because they celebrate the best of the best from opera , theater , ballet, to break dancing to african dance, swing and ballroom and other genres of dance, music and performance art that arent coming to the front of my brain right now.
Its just a guaranteed happy time and excellence, so check out thier website and a show or an event and you will be very glad you experienced it.

A performing arts venue that never seems to disappoint me each time I come here. I came to watch Hai Kyung Suh's piano recital tonight where all the proceeds will go towards Breast Cancer awareness which is definitely for a good cause which I am always up for. Lincoln Center is right next to Julliard, one of the most celebrated and the most competitive to get into Music schools in the country.

I think Lincoln Center is for the refined, cultured, and educated people and actually a place more for the locals than the tourists. The area (Upper 60s) is not over-loaded with tourists like Times Square which is good because I cannot stand crowds anymore and TS is just too dangerous. Overall, I had a wonderful time here and left feeling peaceful and happy :)

I brought my gf here to watch La Boheme and she really enjoyed it. Although the stage is really massive and grand, I was not really impressed and I felt kind a bored (sleepy shhhhh :-P). I was tired pfft. My gf was like... I like to watch another Opera again.... and again... and again.

So I bought Madama Butterfly tickets. Then I was really impressed. I was holding back my tears (haha) and then this dummy boy showed up and I was like "what the .....". Seriously, use a REAL BOY! Still, great performance.

I was also here to watch Swan Lake and I've seen better. The way they move their hands (the swan motion? lol) are not coordinated. I can't believe I'm reviewing this!

Ok, serious aside, Lincoln Center is world class. Every time my parents visit NY, they always go here as well. I just don't want to sound like bragging but I've been here many times and I think it deserves a good review.

It's great if you are under 29yo and a student in NYC. because you can get STUDENT TICKETS for the Metropolitan Opera and NYPhilharmonic and NYC ballet company performances! def check it out on their website as to how to get those tickets. it has become one of my favorite things to do in NYC. I can just swing by the Lincoln Center when Im in the city and check out the shows if I have time for an affordable price. highly recommended for everyone eligible. the performances, of course, are at the world professional level. often times, there are international guests with the symphony and the ballet too.

Like so many other NY'ers I grew up going to and enjoying Lincoln Center's many, many features. Like Times Square, it's one of NYC's main cultural hubs. A truly world-class experience, day or night. Just like 10x better!

You have a multitude of options to chose from to actually get here. Whether it be Columbus Circle Station (see: http://www.yelp.com/bi...), the M66 Bus (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), Taxi or Limo. There's absolutely no excuse for you to say that you've never had the joy of experiencing this iconic area.

Recently undergoing significant modern renovations that started about 6 years ago, and are were completed recently, they've really brought Lincoln Center (and the surrounding area) into the modern century. Columbus Circle (see: http://www.yelp.com/bi...) & Lincoln Center are now one. One step away for you to enjoy some of the best musical and artistic talent the world has to offer right here in NYC.

Which is wonderful, because the new renovations and redesigns link the modern Lincoln Center & Columbus Circle to the rest of the city. Whereas the old design/setup was geared more towards creating an Cultural Island Oasis, that ultimately cost it in exposure.

I mean every single angle of Lincoln Center, and the surrounding neighborhood offers options that will enrich your mind, body, and soul. All of which are topnotch in their respective fields. The Jazz Center, Lincoln Center's own Performance Center, the Opera, the world-renowned Julliard School, Tully Hall's iconic architecture...I could go on and on. They all bring it to another level, and then some!

    =============Pro-Tip=================
Lincoln Center & nearby Columbus Circle both serve as PERFECT date night retreats. You literally would have to be a bumbling, incoherent, clueless fool to foul-up a date night that centers around these 2 linked areas.

So let those new lighted steps lead you to a wonderful way of expanding & enlightening your cultural horizons!

I've not had the fortune of attending a performance here, but I've had the pleasure of wandering the grounds.  Lincoln Center is one of those iconic places, instantly recognizable, that gives you the tinglies when you walk up.

As you ascend the steps to the plaza, the slick, black marble fountain comes into view, its jets of water rising and falling.  It's a beautiful sight.  Looming behind it, larger than life, is the stately Metropolitan Opera House.  We took a spin through its lobby, an impressive space punctuated by beautiful, sparkling crystal "Sputnik" chandeliers, then spent some time in the wonderful gift shop (I really do love a great gift shop...).

With the completion of the 65th Street project -- an architectural and landscape overhaul lasting from 2006 through 2010 -- the grounds of Lincoln Center are more pedestrian friendly and conducive to lingering awhile.  A pretty sloped "park", or tract of grass, sits aside the Opera House and was populated by tourists, locals, and -- presumably -- Julliard students summering on campus.

Now that I've strolled the beautiful grounds and facilities at Lincoln Center, I feel compelled to come see a performance, and soon.  Next trip to the City...

I always walk by this place and it's pretty amazing to see how many different events this place offers year round.

When it comes to the arts, I'm more like Homer Simpson, "ahh ballet..". The arts and the opera really aren't my thing, but you can't really give this thing any less than a perfect score.
Institutions like these make NYC such a great place to live.

I've dropped by their library and was pleasantly surprised by the many resources you can get for music and the performing arts.

The plaza itself is also a cool spot to take photos. You should definitely come here at night when the steps are lit up.

This review is based entirely for the Josie Robertson Plaza.

Meetup on a Friday night for Martial Arts Trilogy free outdoor performance lead by Tan Dun immediately following also a free chamber orchestra outdoor band shell multimedia concert from music of three renowned Chinese films: Hero; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; and The Banquet. Both excellent performances depicting skill in the physical form of martial art of athleticism with usage of Chinese sword, spear, and knife fighting with the added unique highly skill of Chinese face changing. Music coincidence with clips from these three films to set the scene.

Facilities indoors are relatively clean, and foyer area for tickets, coat check have a warm lighting that is very inviting.  Modern structure yet very simple and classic style that is beautiful in true New York fashion.  N.B.  Patrons must silence their mobile phones or any devices that produce a noise for both outdoor or indoor performances!!

Live performances where creative talent is for the sincerely appreciative and genuinely interested. Personally, I always enjoy live performances where passion of craft and skills of talent unfolds into reality to be sincerely appreciated.  For tourists and New Yorkers you've got to go to the Lincoln--Lincoln Center!!

My friends and I walked by here on our recent trip to NY.  When I saw the front steps and the fountain, I felt butterflies in my stomach.  What was even more amazing was that we came during NYC Fashion Week, so we saw the Mercedes-Benz Fashion tent.  I can't imagine how majestic this place must look at night when everyone is dressed up... le sigh...

I don't know why, but my friends and I didn't go inside the Met Opera House.  I think we were pressed for time, so we just took pictures and left.

I wish I lived in NY so that I can actually attend shows and concerts.  A must-return for me!

When I think of Lincoln Center, I think of the iconic fountain and ballet. I know more than that happens in those theaters and in the area (like Fashion Week) but for me, Lincoln Center is all about pointe shoes and tutus.

If you take ballet class, chances are at least once, you have thought about what it would be like to be a student at the School of American Ballet. I know I have! And so when I'm in the area, I can't help but think about the ballet students that might be taking class that very second, and the professional dancers that had rehearsals and are about to perform in the gorgeous theater. At night, the exteriors of the buildings and the fountain emit a glow that makes you feel like you're under a spotlight. It's beautiful.

If you dream of being a ballerina in NYC - or ever have - Lincoln Center is the place that makes you wish your dream could be a reality. It's the home of the city's professional ballet world. There's something special about that.

Went here last night for final night of MidsummerNight Swing where the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra belted out some big band jazz classics to an outdoor crowd of all ages that didn't have to pay a dime. This is what makes this area great and especially great if you live in the area.

I was beginning to think I was in Williamsburg Brooklyn with the amount of pork pie hats I saw walking around. Apparently a memo went out that a pork pie hat will aid against mid-life crisis by making the wearer youthful and cool. Not just for covering up a bald spot. Add jazz plus dancing into the mix and they will fit right in. This event was the only time a hipster wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Great music and a great crowd. This is what NYC is all about. People of all races from their 20s to their 90s still getting amped up over the sounds of Glenn Miller and other classics.

I went to see the magic flute and I guess theater is really dying.

I expected to see grand costumes and fantastic stage display but it was just a rotating abstract cube and mediocre costumes. The worst part was that we couldnt even hear what the performers were singing. It was even in english and the orchestra was louder than them so it was hard to hear. I luckly sat in front of a working translator (on the back of the front seat) but the biggest problem was either I was reading the whole time or watching the stage dumbfounded.

There are a lot of children and kids at the opera.. Acoustics are very loud but not in the right way. You couldnt hear what was going on but you could hear ever single persons whisper to sniff. It was very irritating. It didnt help some stupid kid was kicking my friends seat the entire time. I wanted to strangle his mom for binging her bored child to the opera.

Ther performance itself was outstanding. Queen aria was amazing! I just wish I could have heard her better.

Don't ever spend more than $50 for your seat or you will be pissed.

VERY BEAUTIFUL venue that I hope i get to go to a lot more since its within walking distance or a few stops on the subway from me. I like the grass area outside where we took the kids when I was volunteering to eat their lunch. There is also plenty of seating on chairs, by the fountain, and just great set up.
The hall itself is very nice and modern..the architecture was great and allowed for the place not to seem stuffy. The chairs were comfortable and during performances the ushers were really nice and patient with us. I like the artsy touches they had on the outside. The welcome in different languages on the stairs and on the north side the digital screens.

This is the quintessential New York performance experience. No matter how often I come to Lincoln Center, I still feel a sense of awe as I ascend the front steps and see the fountain all lit up. I'm a huge fan of "Moonstruck," so maybe there's some mushy sentimentality tied up in it all for me, but still... Not many places in NY can so consistently give me butterflies as Lincoln Center does.

I almost always find myself in Avery Fischer Hall; most recently, I saw the NY Phil perform Sondheim's "Company" featuring a star-studded cast. Being a cheapskate, I found myself in the nosebleed seats, but it didn't matter. I had chills again and again...

When I find myself in more lucrative employment, I will start splurging on Orchestra seats so I can get the full impact of Avery Fischer's lines of sight and acoustics. But until then, I'll happily sit up in the nosebleeds, soaking in the music and thanking god that I live in such an amazing city.

One of my favorite spaces in the city. Even before they reinvented themselves I already loved the open space with the fountain. Now with the revamped steps (with the scrolling lights) and new restaurant, pool, & lawn, It's such a great place to catch a performance or just lounge in the summer air.

The only drawback is that the new fountain doesn't lend itself to sitting on the edge as you will most likely get wet.

Outdoors at 8pm in NYC on 7/7, it was as hot as I imagine hell might be.  But we went to the Lincoln Center for their "Midsummer Nights Swing" anyway. There was a live swing band and a DJ.

I am not kidding you when I say just standing still, I was standing in a pool of my own sweat. Yet there were people on the dancefloor, twirling, whirling, jumping, shaking, and jiving the night away. They must have been liquefying.

It was too hot. We left, without being asked to dance, in search of cooler quarters.

It looked like a nice concept. Lincoln Center is definitely a snazzy venue from the outside. I'll have to go back to see a show and upgrade my review.

The Met is one of the reasons why I love NY so much. It's a real blessing and privilege to have an easy access to such spectacular world class live opera performances!! The Met opera inspired me to study Italian more seriously so that I can actually understand what the opera singers are saying besides following Del Piero gossip news. Unlike the opulent Neo-Baroque style opera houses of Europe, the architecture of The Met is very modern and almost too simple for my taste. However, the stage set production was absolutely stunning, I particularly love the extravagant stage designed by the legendary designer Franco Zeffirelli. I admire his magnificent grandiosity, attention to detail, elegance and over-the-top glitziness!! His "Turandot" production is a must-see, and it's one of the most memorable operas I've ever seen in my life!!! 10 star!!!!

So far my favorite operas are:

1)Turandot - It's the best!!!!! So breathtaking!!!!! Marcello Giordani singing "Nessun Dorma" was priceless, it was so beautiful that it moved me to tears!

2)Aida - I saw it twice and this is just as amazing as Turandot in terms of the music, ornate stage set, and costumes. I highly recommend to splurge on this one....Get a "Dress Circle" seat at least!!! Expect some tear-jerking scenes!

3)Don Giovanni - Erwin Schrott is such a stunning barihunk!! Mmmm!!! He's the PERFECT cast for Don Giovanni! Rico suave, 100% mujeriego sinvergüenza! LOL!! Saw him twice!! I can't wait to see him again....come back to The Met soon!!!

4)Carmen- So fierce, so independent, so fearless, so sexy, so passionate, and so crazy!! I LOVE CARMEN!!!

5)Madama Butterfly - Avant-garde , innovative, and minimalistic  visual approach was so dramatic and powerful! I loved how they adopted the Japanese theater tradition without being so cliche and cheesy. So artistic!!

6)Die Zauberflöte -I saw this twice too, and I'm gonna see it yet again and again. This is the cutest opera!!! And the visual is so surreal and mesmerizing, Julie Taymor rocks!!!! Pa pa pa papagenaaaaa!

7)Thaïs - Renée Fleming was superb!! I saw this without not knowing much about Massenet's work but I was blown away. 5 star!!

8)La Traviata- Jonas Kaufmann and Angela Gheorghiu were both brillilant!!! They defy the stereotypes of opera singers - they aren't fat and are rather attractive. The glitzy Franco Zeffirelli production was in full swing again! So opulent and elaborate, this is so my kind of opera. Love it!

9)Le Nozze di Figaro - Soooo hysterical!! Love Mozart's sense of humor! And ofcourse, the music is so beautiful and catchy!!

10)Il Trovatore-Very dramatic music, I love the chorus part!

11)La Rondine - The real-life couple Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna did a phenomenal job! The charming and romantic Art Nouveau/Art-Deco stage really captured the glamour of the era. I loved Angela's ravishing period costume in Act 1, she looked like she came right out of the Klimt's painting!

12)Stiffelio - One of Verdi's less popular operas of scandalous subject about a married minister whose adulterous wife had an affair with a hot young lover.  I was blown away by the dramatic soprano singer, Julianna Di Giacomo. What a stunning voice! Placido Domingo conducted the orchestra, which was interesting. Overall, Stiffelio was surprisingly good!

13)Simon Boccanegra - The 69-year old tenor Placido still rocks!! I love how he keeps challenging himself with new genre, his debut as a baritone was filled with dignity and warmth. Bravo!!

As you can see, Verdi, Puccini, and Mozart are my faves. Since I'm not an opera-connoisseur, I appreciate these three masters more because the melody is more understandable and catchy.

The ones I thought were OK:

1)Rigoletto-Too depressing and upsetting!! I used to love "Donna e Mobile" until I found out the context...the Duke is such a jerk!!! A total DB!! I appreciate the beauty of tragedy but this is too devastating!!

2)La Boheme - I just never found the story line intriguing, sorry! The music is fantastic, but not my favorite.

3)Adriana Lecouvreur - Placido Domingo sang with such elegance despite his age, and the production was great, but somehow I didn't find it very memorable. I don't know why.

4)Tosca - the new production was waaaay too minimalistic and boring. Took away the drama and grandeur too much. Bring back old school please!

    Not my cup of tea:

1)Satyagraha - too avant-garde and too monotonous. I nearly fell asleep.

Make sure you buy the tickets early because almost every single opera is sold out. The Met is recession-proof!! I don't think I'm ready for 5 hour Wagner opera, but I'd like to expand my horizon eventually.

A must see for anyone....especially as this is truly the center for the Arts for not only NY, but I think for the US.  You have the Opera, Philharmonic, Ballet - and the list goes on and on and on.  I would go check it out during the day - and then swing by at night before a performance, even if you don't have a ticket, to experience the entire plaza area.  Amazing.

Julliard - The most famous arts school in the world.  You have got to go and see Julliard just for the schools reputation - and to think about all of the many genius' it has helped refine.

There are tours you can take - so check it out on their website.  I was there for an Opera, so walked around a bit myself and didn't take a tour.

I'm such a bad connoisseur of the arts.  I came to Lincoln Center, and all I did was sit and hang out in their public space.  Whatever, the space was cool, my company was cool and the vertical garden we sat by was definitely very, very cool.  Plenty of spots to sit, plenty of outlets, and free shows in the public space if that's your thing.  Oh, and clean bathrooms!

Maybe next time I'll be a better tourist and actually catch a cultural event at this NYC gem!

Tumultuous history notwithstanding, Lincoln Center is a fantastic place for the arts. It truly is. The architecture speaks for itself, and the renovations, however inconvenient, come out better (I don't know about bigger). I grew up with Lincoln Center as a New York City public school kid. The excellent music programs that I was exposed to since I was in elementary school have been sources of great memories. I have gotten great deals in seeing The Nutcracker, the Mostly Mozart concert series, the NY Philharmonic and the Julliard String Quartet. It was awesome to have Avery Fisher Hall as the setting of my high school graduation.

In many ways, Lincoln Center has always been a part of my life. Not as present as say, a student at the American Ballet Theater, but as someone who otherwise would not have seeked such pursuits.

I moved to upper westside to be near Lincoln center.  It's got opera, ballet, and Juilliard school.  My favorite is the Met opera in the winter time.  They truly are the best shows in town in my opinion.  I love the snowflake chandelliers that go up to the ceiling right before the Met opera begins.  I feel the excitement every time I go see a show there.  The ticket prices went up a little bit this season, so I'm sorry about that.
The whole area surrounding the lincoln center feels like a park, with a lot of areas to sit and relax.  The fountain in the middle looks so cooling in the summer, and the Christmas tree during the holiday season is always beautiful.

What is there not to like about this spectacular triple threat of a beauty?
Opera, Symphony, and Ballet are housed in pristine white marble elegance. This is where all my money goes, but at least I am able to feel fancy while my funds drain!

The fact that this place also will serve as the new home for NY Fashion Week does nothing more than impress me as it continues to elevate its status in the hearts of millions of New Yorkers.

AH! one of my favorite sites in New York! I come here at least once a year to enjoy our New York Philharmonic. I love how the violins, violas and cello move in a synchronized motions; absolute perfection indeed. If you love music and sight seeing, this is the place you have to go. The elegance and craftsmanship of music is just mindblowing; you'll never see talent like this anywhere. I

This place is awfully expensive if you attend the evening concerts 100 bucks+. However, if you want to save a couple of bucks, come in the afternoon where they practice and you get to see them. Under 20 bucks. Come and enjoy! I have not been to the other facilities yet.

Firstly, I think it's hilarious that all of Lincoln center is on Yelp as one ratable entity.  Is it good for groups?  Does it have a coat check?  Is there a full bar?

    Secondly, Lincoln center is awesome.

Just a shout out to the design crew for the reconstruction of the plaza. You took an iconic cultural treasure and made it current and fantastic. Some construction is still underway, but what's been unveiled is stunning. The Illumination Lawn, the grove and reflecting pool are all gorgeous and very accessible. I love it and can't wait to spend some warm summer nights lolling about.

I request of my fellow citizens to keep it clean and take your litter with you, please. The plaza will be cherished for years.

Has aged very well over the last nearly 50 years. Does everything well, to put it mildly, and was Leonard Bernstein's home away from home for most of his very creative life.

Also where Ken and dad  (and me,too) went many times, so a sentimental favorite besides.

What an AMAZING PLACE TO SING AT!!!

This place is BEAUTIFUL! One of the best centers for performances! I had the privilege to sing here while I was in NYC, and it was INCREDIBLE! Also had a tour of behind-the-scenes for the performers who are performing here. It was incredible!!!

I'm not a culture junkie.  I like to call myself a "witness to culture".  ( a pretentious way to admit that I can't afford the ticket prices)

I walk though Lincoln Center every M/W/F afternoon & evening.  I often stop and admire the "what's on" posters, the art installments, and the set up & tear down of various events in Damrosch Park.

During the summer, I was witness to the swing events & the concerts, one night, I stopped to listen to Bill Haley the Comets playing on the plaza.

I saw Jerry Springer standing in line for the Met !!???!!

I stood in line behind Mark Hudson buying ice cream from the Mr. Softee truck.  TWICE!!!

Back when I lived in Hoboken, I use to think that my defining NYC moment was when I had to walk through Times Square on my morning commute.  But now, Times Square is only part of the story.  Maybe I've matured, but my walks through Lincoln Center make the hassles of the city worth it.  Watching people waiting for dates at the fountain, seeing lovers tango on a warm summer evening, parents bringing children to events, musicians carrying their instruments off the bus, parked on 62nd street - policemen stopping to watch the fireworks ending the season at Avery Fisher Hall.  All of these moments make me happy.

Classic and up-and-coming performers and works.  Every city should have a Lincoln Center.

    FREE BATHROOMS! Clean, too.
