lets see if i can do this without exaggeration:
drive up in your beamer and park in a lot. check your rolex or omega or chopard and decide how long you want to be in the distillery district for. buy a ticket with change or credit card. get a latte from balzacs, buy some coffee beans for espresso made at home (i bought some); no scratch that. buy several kinds. walk into lileo and remove your sunglasses that dont reveal your eyes and cover half your face.
walk around, look at the beautiful clothes, try them on while your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend checks out their own respective section for items, and buy your winter outfits. (youll come back in spring, summer and fall or maybe another time this month, dont worry.) dont ever look at the tags.
order another latte from the espresso place they have inside the store. look at the really cool pop art sculpture/paintings all made with rubiks cube and say "those are cool", maybe flip through a book of art for 10 seconds, decide if its a good coffeebook and if so buy it. if youve bought a lot, get one of the young (cooler than the rubiks cube paintings) sales staff to help you take your stuff to the car and go to north 44 for dinner.
i dont think this is an exaggerated picture. here at lileo, they have BEAUTIFUL clothes. they have clothes that are made mostly in New York and Japan and a minimal amount made in China. lots of the designers are supposedly small designers and as per their website there are some that produce an exclusive number of garments just for lileo (i dont know much about designers, or the number of exclusive providers lileo carries, so ill take the owners word for it).
its hard not to come in here and feel aghast at the prices. i think paying for quality is valid, smart and arguably better than buying crap all the time and perhaps even wasting more that way by throwing stuff out all the time. so maybe you buy a pair of jeans here and as per the owner they last for a long time and are very comfortable. if i bought a pair of jeans from here i wouldnt regard them as a casual pant where i dont need to worry about what situation i wear them in, ie./ are they going to get dirty, ripped perchance, put through any physical strain. i probably wouldnt be thinking about those things at all if i was one of the self-titled (vocal or not) elite that shop here consistently. the owner said that they are not interested in attracting the mall-goer, but rather are interested in keeping this exclusive/elite/better than. As per their website they are a "mecca for the contemporary lifestyle shopping experience". (What does that even mean?)
if you shop here, you should expect the absolute best that is possible in quality, service and durability. as for the service: i asked one of the sales staff in as neutral a way possible to talk to me about the price of their clothes to help me understand their asking price. he looked offended and said something requiring the least initiative possible "its because of the quality". okay great. then ring that 800 dollar sweater up right away. hope it doesnt snow too much before i get to my car. he should know how to answer that question as thoroughly as the owner did (in the time we had).
i think it is just difficult to digest spending that much on a sweater, lets say, when the cost of that is more than most people pay in rent. sure you might hear this sentiment all the time - there are children starving, etc. - but ITS REAL. this stuff is not. by the same token, id love to go to a seminar or something where someone can break down for me the cost of clothes like this so i could just know (without illusion) why exactly it all costs so much. how much am i spending on quality. how much am i spending on labour. how much am i spending on my ego. i know its not black and white, but at a certain one has to have some kind of awareness and discretion.
the store itself is indicative of the industrial look that pervades the distillery district with exposed brick and structural beams and a lot of thought was put into its creation and development. that much is obvious.
so for someone who has no problem with these prices and can see the value where i cannot, come here because the clothes are lovely. and for all i know those same people could be doing a whackload of charity work or giving some of their money away to those in need at the same time. -

Well, holy cow. This is one posh retail outlet. I almost think it's unfair for me to give Lileo a star rating because it would be a chilly day in a very warm place before I ever purchased anything here. I definitely can't afford it. If I could, I hope I would spend my money on something more meaningful than really nice clothes.
There are signs on some of the display tables that instruct us plebes to keep our grimy paws off the carefully folded tshirts. Seriously. Am I in a textile museum or a clothing store? From a safe distance, I spied a price tag that suggested one of those tshirts was $160. Need I say more?
At any rate. The three stars don't reflect my rating so much as my total and complete discomfort in this store. But I am clearly not the target demographic. Perhaps for the fashionable 'more money than god' set, this place is perfect. -

Lileo is a really nice clothing store!
This is just a few unisex clothing stores that I found the men's clothing selection is way way superior to the women's! And I have more fun browsing all those men outerwears than at the women's department.
Lileo does offers quality designers clothings with the price tag to match!
Good place to browse and not a good place to shop for people with a tight budget! -

Lileo is a beautiful store. The kind of store where you don't want to go when you're having a less-than-beautiful day. The staff is very pretty, dressed impeccably and the merchandise all seems to glow from the inside-out.
Luxury is in the air, and cashmere will cushion your fall, should you run short of it (air). Try not to swoon at the sight of Naked and Famous jeans or APC (there those guys are again) cotton ties, or that rather high-end collection from Converse. Converse, really? I had no idea. Seriously though, they have a great selection of fine clothing for both girls and guys, and I really enjoyed their abundance of philanthropically-minded gear that they also carry. The "NOBODY
WA S
THIRSTY" endeavour uses the proceeds of its pricey shirts to provide two people in Africa with drinking water for 20(!?) years, and TOMS shoes donate a pair to charity for every pair purchased.
Very cool to see some of the big bucks being spent on something so worthwhile.
All do-gooding aside, this is clearly shopping of a different ilk, far from the bargain bins of my world. One of those places where I make a guess at the price (while pushing the limits of my imagination), and then see that it's nearly twice my generous guess. But I ain't mad at cha, Lileo. I would and will come back again, collecting (very) small pieces of you in the hopes that you'll scatter some light in my closet.
