I had the good fortune of living only one block away from this terrific little pie shop this fall. In addition to the wonderful pies (kinds of pie offered vary each day), there are often cupcakes, shortbread, quiche, soups, and ice cream. Amazing ice cream. Life of Pie carries the very special Pascal's ice cream, which can only be found in a few select spots in Ottawa.
During my short time in Ottawa, I didn't get to sample nearly enough baked goods from Life of Pie. If you are in Ottawa, stop by! They are nestled within a charming neighborhood in Old Ottawa South. Be sure and buy some ice cream to go along with your pie! -

One day I was outside a shop on Bank Street, photographing a store. A woman came up to me to ask me what I was doing. I told her about Yelp and we talked for a while about local shopping treasures. She listed a number of places and then said "Oh, have you been to the pie lady's?" From that moment, I became obsessed with tracking down this pie lady. A number of other locals mentioned it and the general location - off the main street in the middle of the Glebe residential neighbourhood. I began scouting around daily and today I finally discovered Life of Pie. It is indeed in the middle of a residential neighbourhood - it is a corner house (Hopewell and Leonard) that has been converted into a bakery. It is tiny inside - in fact, the area where the baker actually rolls out the dough is next to and is almost the cash counter. I wish I could tell you what kinds of pie they make, but it changes every day - but they do offer savoury and sweet selections. Today's sweet pie was apple. I bought one for $12 and it is delicious!!! It is like the ones my mom makes - but don't you dare tell her I said that! Life of Pie also makes other baked goods, like cookies and butter tarts. Life of Pie is a little work to find, but it is worth it!!!
