Review from Emily C.
the best mini cupcakes i've ever eaten. all the cakes were moist and not overly soft in texture. the frostings were not overly sweet nor did they overpower the cake. the frosting to cake ratio was just right, and all the cupcakes looked cute and delicious. the decorations were simple but a nice touch.
my favorites were the lemon drop with lemon curd, caramel, and coconut. i love gourmet cupcakes and these were the best i've eaten yet.
the other normal flavors were pretty good, but the above flavors stood out and tasted so good i have to give Life is Sweet 5 stars.
the owner/cashier was extremely friendly and even gave us a deal since we were the last customers for the day. the only complaint i have is that we asked for one of each kind of cupcake left but he gave us three of the caramel and none of the carrot cake even though there were a couple of carrot minicupcakes left. -

Yes, the cupcakes are tasty. The customer service, not so much...
Some months ago, I was given a large specialty cupcake as a gift from this shop. Very, very tasty. Consequently, this store came to mind when I was hosting a birthday party, and needed a special dessert.
When I ordered - in person, mind you - I specifically asked for a "birthday cake" made of cupcakes. I know that my question was understood, because we discussed plate size, icing issues, flavours, etc.
Day of the party comes, and I call to confirm that my order is ready. I don't know who answers the phone, but the person's tone is just shy of snide.
Notwithstanding the rudeness on the phone, I drive over pick to my order. To begin with, I am less than pleased that I've got to endure listening to the shopkeeper gossip with her girlfriend, but - on top of that - I'm given no indication that I'll be served momentarily, or any apology that I've been left standing at the counter unattended. Little did I know that the worst of it was yet to come.
I am finally acknowledged by the girl at the counter, who hands me several stacked boxes, tied together with string. I ask about the "birthday cake" request, and I'm told I can "stack them myself". Holy cr*p! For over $60.00, you should've gotten this one right.
Will NOT be going back. Will NOT recommend. -

It is such a cute cupcake shop, It was one of my best trips down to the beaches when I got a groupon for 30 dollars worth of cupcakes for there. Its nice because you can buy all sorts of things for your kitchen, along with bread, speads, cupcake lipglosses, you name it and walk out with a really good cupcake. I did find them a little dry but that could have been the time of day I went in, either way it has never been an issue enough for me not to go back there. The icing is really good aswell. The staff are nice too.
Worth the trip to the beach everytime. -

Delicious!
Tried quite a few flavours and all of the cupcakes were moist and very good. I do have a few favourites, though. If you are only going to try one cupcake, it has to be the lemon one. A close second would definitely be the Earl grey! But no matter what your cupcake tastes, you won't be disappointed here! -

Pretty sure the girls working here think I'm a cupcake addict....which might be a little true. If you didn't read my last review I'll reiterate...I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took their cupcakes to work one day for the girls I work with and 2 of them have driven out of their way down to the beach to get cupcakes. They have featured some new flavours as well like carrot and oreo which I always appreciate, variety makes life exciting. My favourite is still the mango tea lime so yum but all the cupcakes are super moist. I also still highly recommend the cheddar scones, they go really fast (on several occasions they've been completely out) so be sure to get them early. I'm going to a friend's for dinner tonight and I told them I'd bring dessert, time to make another life is sweet fan.

As I sit and watch Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel peruse the possible reasons for the sudden increase in cupcakeries...thier final thought was the upswing of available medical marijuana. I laughed, and then I decided to posit my thoughts on the new availability of said cupcakeries.
One can't help but think of the true decadence of a cupcake, the overloading of carbs, sugar, and fat make this tiny treat a big no no for most of the population. Not to mention that cupcakes make one think of toddler parties and grade school days, sometimes its hard not to indulge a little.
Life is sweet will assist you in overloading gladly. With a smile and a quirky quip or two you will feel right at home. I was at their three year party this week and was inducted into their little family of chefs drinking wine and gorging on their mini delights. I am fully smitten with the "lemon drop" and can't help but gush to everyone that I come across. So here's a little gush for you fellow yelpers...
I can still remember the first time I bit into the sweet lemony cake and the creamy centre greeted my tongue as a succulent surprise. There is no need to cut this sumptuous sweet with any milk, it is a taste-bud's dream, and I can't wait for my next treat!
Bottom line...support this local business and get a little sugar rush at the same time. -

I needed about 30 cupcakes for a horde of sugar-jonesing 4 year-olds and the Cupcake house delivered. I actually think that the real art of the cupcake might have been lost on the crowd, but the experience of being in the quaint little one room store was worth it.
All the cupcakes are baked on site in an oven you can actually see from the counter. The flavours are amazing, and the chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing is just what you think it should be: decadent.
It's just a little shop, tucked away on the East side of the city, but it's a gem, and the cupcakes are amazing. Definitely recommend it, and it's worth trying even if you don't have a reason (just say you're getting them for a 4-year old's birthday if you need an excuse ...). -

When it comes to writing individual cupcake assessments, which I'm prone to do, I tend to dive into the same word bank over and over again. Words like moist, light, fluffy and dense seem to come up frequently and become, like the cupcake itself, dull in my mouth. Life Is Sweet inspires both my palette and my vocabulary to venture beyond the norm for better or for worse.
Vanilla Bean:
There's something about vanilla bean that, when you breathe it in, you can smell and taste the difference between vanilla bean and your run-of-the-mill vanilla extract. This cupcake lacked the essence of vanilla bean leaving nothing more but a basic pound-like cake in my mouth. The frosting was a sugary buttercream and one that I can and have easily imitated.
Trust me, they get more positive as I go...
Mint Chocolate:
One of my favourite flavour combinations, this cupcake did what most mint chocolate cupcakes do and that's rely on the frosting to carry the mint and just pipe it on a chocolate cupcake (which was lovely by the way). I would've like to have a hint o' mint mingled in the cake.
Seriously, praise is soon to be distributed...
Lemon Drop:
This cupcake did not hold back on the lemon. In most cases, I prefer a tiny slap on the wrist of lemon flavour but this one gives you an unexpected yet completely welcomed spanking of lemon. The citric marriage of sweet and sour is perfect.
White Chocolate:
This might be the only white chocolate cupcake I've tasted that actually captured the rich flavour of white chocolate in both the cake and the frosting. What helps the cake might have been the mini white chocolate chips folded within. The frosting, in contrast to the buttercream used in the so-called vanilla bean cupcake, was much more creamier; the way white chocolate should be. I didn't think it could get better than this cupcake until...
Butterscotch:
Fuck! Put that in your word bank. It's moist, it's light, it's fluffy, it's delicious, it's orgasmic and it's heavenly. The perfect cupcake that is very delicate with its butterscotch.
Told ya!
Now what can be said about the little bakery on the east-side? Here's its word bank: quaint, adorable, cozy, friendly, lovely and inedible. Thank God there's the cupcakes to eat!Listed in: The Great Dessert Seduction, Cup O'Cake

I've been two more times since my original review and Life is Sweet is just as good the second (and third!) time around.
I've recently tried the mango and the mandarin/earl grey tea flavours, which were both amazing.
The staff has always been nothing but nice and gone out of their to repeat the plethora of flavours over and over again.

Awesome!! The lemon drop was fantastic. Thanks to Danielle P. I made sure to stop into this place on Sunday morning and picked up 18 cupcakes for a family birthday. They were fantastic and fresh. We even downed 2 minis in the shop while waiting!
The cupcakes are moist and the icing is well flavored. Doesnt taste sugary or like diet(aspartame). We had a mix of lemon drops, chocolate mint, chocolate chocolate, vanilla chocolate, mango tea. and butterscotch.
The shop is in the beaches which is really nice and a great place to take a stroll, get some good coffee and have a cupcake! They have a whole array of other gift items in the shop which are all really nice. I love that it looks like the shop was someones house years earlier and they have retained the old feel of the previous owner. -

What is it about cupcakes that is just so comforting?
Never to old to experience the delight of a good cupcake, I discovered this quaint shop on an excursion to the east Beaches earlier this year. In short, the cupcakes are DE-LISH!
There isn't that super-sweet, confectionary type taste like you might be used to with lame grocery store cupcakes. Instead, Life is Sweet cupcakes are rich, but not overpowering; filling, yet tolerable and just plain GOOD.
For $12.00 you can get a half dozen (that is 6) regular size assortment of such flavours as vanilla bean, lemon drop, butterscotch and seasonal varieties. A trip to the Beaches just got a whole lot sweeter! -

A pleasant hike from the beach itself, you can make a lovely day by going to Life is Sweet and getting some tasty cupcakes to bring to the water with you. This tiny shop is on the very easternmost edge of what I would consider the Beaches, but it's definitely worth the trip.
The inside of the store is a bit twee, but in an endearing way, with lots of cute trinkets and some gourmet items like organic coffees. The best way to go when you get inside is to get the sampler box of mini-cupcakes (which cost around $6, I think). You can pick and choose from the flavors and share them with your friends.
The outstanding flavors are the lemon drop (vanilla cake with a lemon curd center, mild lemon icing), the earl grey (tea cake with orange icing). The white chocolate has really tasty icing and the mint chocolate and double chocolate both hold up to popular favor. The best part is that none of the cakes or icing topping are too sweet or grainy, just light and fluffy and pleasantly flavored. Go nuts!Listed in: Sweet Tooth

Review from Tamar F.
Now that our wedding is over I just wanted to update my review. We had booked with Life is Sweet in December 2009 for our wedding, having really wanted cupcakes instead of the typical wedding cake (not because it's a fad, but because we love cupcakes). Life is Sweet has very tasty cupcakes so this review isn't really about the food but moreso about having them in large quantity for a wedding.
We were the first ones to book for our wedding day and were told to get mini-cupcakes instead of regular sized, so we did. We also opted to get the "wedding" cupcakes which would be decorated more nicely than their standard ones and some little bits of decor (which they said were ribbon/flowers in our wedding colors).
A few weeks before our wedding we needed to confirm delivery times with all of our vendors, since our venue was small and had one guy essentially manning the place. Though most of our vendors were really responsive, Life is Sweet was tough to get in touch with. The owner handles all of the wedding orders and we had both her shop number and email. Yet her staff either didn't pass along our messages or she didn't respond... and e-mails took a while to get back to as well. Essentially we were told that there were 2 or 3 other weddings that day so she wanted to work with them and figure out their timelines before getting us one. Probably not the best thing to tell a client, in my opinion. Eventually a time was agreed upon and they were delivered at that time. I just wish that we hadn't had to hunt down the cupcake folks for so long - especially with them knowing we were planning our wedding from the other side of the continent.
Additionally, for the surcharges they apply to make things look "pretty" or "special" it seems like we didn't get anything extra. The cupcakes looked just like they did when we picked them up in store to sample - same frosting application and all. No "flowers" or "dragees" or anything that would make you think that it was anything beyond a cupcake. Which is fine, except that we were "highly recommended" to pay an extra sum to have it look extra-special. Also, there were no flowers or matching ribbons or the like, which was also supposed to be included.
The cupcakes tasted fine, which is their ultimate intent. I don't think that the other issues were done intentionally as a sort of racket, I just think they were overwhelmed with orders and things slipped through the cracks. I am just disappointed because we didn't get what we ordered/paid for exactly and the customer service left something to be desired.
So for a cupcake to go, go here - that's fine. If you're looking for a large supply (for a wedding, perhaps?) I'd suggest you look elsewhere.Listed in: You're Sweet Wanna Hit the…, Where to Go in To-Ron-To, The Hitched List

Subtitled "A Cupcake House", this small east-end bakery offers a wide variety of delicious and unique flavours daily. For $2.25 per cupcake, you can choose from flavours such as Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Lemon Drop, Butterscotch, Earl Grey, Orange, Chocolate Chip, Coconut, and White Chocolate. On my visit I chose to try both a Chocolate and a Mint Chocolate Cupcake, and I couldn't have been more satisfied. The cake was light, fluffy, and oh-so-chocolatey, and the lovely employees freshly piped the divine icing onto the cupcakes while I watched!
