We had a bunch of different contractors around to check out some projects. A few never got back to us with quotes because they felt our small home repairs weren't worth their time.
Randy and crew at Level One however, not only gave us a great quote, they did great work.
Here's one example: our new home had a really embarrassing feature-- you could hear the upstairs bathroom flushing in the kitchen as if you were in the bathroom itself!
Turned out the previous owners had swapped around the toilet and shower so there was a bend in the pipe just above our fridge. Randy looked around in the initial walk through and guessed that was what was going on, and gave an estimate based on that but said we'd check when we opened up the wall. Fair enough.
When we opened it up, that was what it was so the guys packed in the super sound proofing insulation.
Kitchen saved!
Another example: we thought we might have to rip off our whole deck since the railings are so wobbly and they're the supports, you know? Level One saved the day and we don't have to worry now about people leaning on the railing and falling down and breaking their legs.
Deck saved!
They're rock stars and really good about separating the quotes if you aren't sure how much you want to do until you see the $$$ breakdowns. Just let them know. -

We are very lucky that we stumbled upon Level One on the internet when we were looking for a contractor to renovate our small condo in Coal Harbour.
None of our friends or families had any recent home renovations done so we relied on our own search on the web. I was in town in September 2008 for a week, interviewed a couple on the 2nd day in town and decided on Level One.
The owner came to the condo with an assistant for an assessment, listened to what we wanted to have done and offered a few suggestions. I was given a quote within just a couple of days. After agreeing to the contract, the demolition started the following week! Although it was a small one-bedroom condo, we had our kitchen torn out and replaced with new appliances and cabinetry, all the flooring replaced with bamboo flooring, the bedroom closet gutted and rebuilt, half of the bathroom redone. The project was completed in just 2 months.
We are very happy with the process and the quality of the work. We were still living in California at the time of the renovation so all communications were done either by email or over the phone. We received email and photo updates weekly if not more frequently. We were sought approvals for any changes to the plans so we were aware of all changes to the costs all the time. When we walked into our condo a few months later when we moved here, it was exactly how it looked in the picture, even better because we could see it in person.
There was a slight problem with the bathroom sink a month after we moved in in March 2009. It was a new product so it needed some tweaking. The owner came back numerous times to make sure it worked. Not only that we were not charged for the visits, he gave us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience caused.
We had other renovation projects in the past and Level One is the most reliable contractor we dealt with so far. -

I got to speak with the owner immediately when I called, and after I explained my needs he was very clear that the job would require permits -- both of these facts impressed me.
I booked a free onsite visit/quotation for four days later, took the day off work, and never heard from him. That didn't impress me.
The initial call was impressive enough that I won't blacklist them, but I can't give them more than 3 stars.
