I don't eat cheese so I'm not yelping about the cheese. I find cheese to be quite disgusting actually, sorry cheese lovers.
Anyway, what I do buy there and love is the Millford Bay Smoked Trout Pate, it's excellent. The Epi bread, the best baguette in Leslieville, the chocolate toffee bark in bags at the cash, the olives in garlic, the cold cuts, and mostly for the Beef Bourguignon in the freezer, which they don't make but it's out of this world.
The staff are quite friendly and knowledgeable and I have never had a bad experience there. In fact, I've gone in there in a bad mood and the staff person went out of her way to make me feel better. It's small and tight in the shop, but the place is loaded with amazing food especially if you're entertaining. -

Very tiny shop with limited amount of cheese.
The lady behind the counter was very nice and helpful and you can call them to check if they have what you're looking for and if they've ordered in something new.
Check out The Global Cheese or something like that at Kensington Market. They have far more plus whiskey cheddar. Yum. -

After stopping at another cheese market and discovering a new found love for goat gouda I decided to stop into the leslieville cheese market. They had a variety from Holland (I think), also quite tasty. The set up here, requires that you talk to the people behind the counter, who are quite knowledgeable. Prices are not as clearly marked so it can be more intimidating. I have also purchased honeys, dips and breads from here before. They have a nice, albeit small well rounded selection of goods.

A tiny shop with a carefully curated selection of cheese, meats, breads, and accompaniments. Not cheap, but convenient if you're in the area. I also enjoy their granola, the dry-cured Gypsy salami, and their garlic-stuffed olives.

As you approach Leslieville Cheese Market, ignore the degenerates loafing next door at K&S Restaurant. The zombies are always around but thankfully they don't like cheese (or just can't afford it), so you can browse the store in peace as they clutter the nearby sidewalk.
In this tiny shop you'll find a panoply of treats: award-winning cheeses like Le Cendrillon (Cinderella) goat, made in St-Raymond-de-Portneuf, Quebec - literally named "the world's best cheese" (among 2440 others) for 2009 and very, very hard to find in Toronto. But it's here, in all its ash-covered glory. It's seriously a magical cheese.
Staff hotness has increased in recent months. Every time I go in lately, an even more gorgeous person is working behind the counter. You can sample cheese here and come looking for cheese advice, whether it's for grilling, melting or serving on a cheese board. Leslieville Cheese Market is also a purveyor of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches to go, and they usually have a rotation of three or four different varieties.
They also sell loaves from Epi Breads as well as homemade croutons, cream cheese and other spreads like tapenade, hummus and the like. Sign up for one of their nighttime cheese workshops, with cheeky names like "I Never Met A Goat I Didn't Like" (topic: goat cheese, natch).
My only wishlist item would be more square footage - forget about coming here on weekends or before holidays; there's usually only one person working and there's hardly enough room for more than five people to browse at a time. Leave your strollers, shopping buggies and skateboards at home folks.Listed in: Grill 'Em! Toronto's Best…, Cheese Shops

The staff ALWAYS have something totally flippant and irritating to say..."Why don't you get a couple of shrink wrapped pieces of parmesan" ... "I don't want to have to cut that big a piece of... " ... you know that's going to be $70.00" (DUHH)... "is that all you are getting" ... Lazy bunch of slackards must be taking lessons from next door...
I do my best to not go here and sometimes like today the St Lawrence is closed.
Get some decent staff that actually care about your customers and the quality of you product. -

A shop full of great foodie items, with a nice little gluten free section (including the awesome Queen Street Bakery Gluten free bread) but don't go expecting one of their super tasty Gluten Free Grilled cheeses. They rarely have them in stock, and despite the prevalence of both the gluten free bread and the mountain of cheese, they've consistently refused to make any sandwiches because they're not already prepared. It's not even like there was anyone else in the shop to serve! I've been in 3 times and the same thing has happened.
I'm done. And I'm taking all my cheese buying friends with me. (They would come with me at lunch and drop loads on fancy cheese . .now we'll just go elsewhere.) -

I don't eat cheese. I still come by here all the time.
The good (minus any reviews of actual cheese or cheese related products):
- The dips here are amazing. My #1 is the store made hummus. It's got a chunkier texture than grocery store hummus and it's a little bit spicy. It's great.
- WHEN they have westphalian ham, it's amazing. They seem to hardly ever have it in stock.
- Good selection of good breads
- Lots of other random things - spreads, chips, condiments and the occasional serving platter
The bad:
I have two serious complaints about this store that lend to it's 3 stars on the Sarah scale of excellence. I REALLY like the items they carry here, the staff is great but I just can't get over these things.
- If there are more than 3 other people in here, I just don't even go in and get my bread somewhere else. There is not enough room for more than 4 adults in here at the same time. I have experienced so much line related frustration here, -1 star. Side note: I have no idea how they could have designed this to do better... maybe put the cash on the back wall.
- It's way too expensive. The home made hummus is $4.95 and kettle cooked chips are like $3.60/bag. They are 2/$4 at Loblaws. Gourmet bread is over 5$.
I will definitely go here again but not if it's busy and even though i am offended by their high prices, I will continue to pay them. -

This is pure and simple an amazing cheese shop. The staff here will spend lots of time helping you find the perfect cheese and letting you try out as many as you like. In addition, their ready-made dips are amazing...I highly recommend the smoked paprika with old cheddar...You'll never want to leave!
On top of that, they also have a cheese appreciation class and classes for pairing cheese and beer, cheese and wine, etc... -

It is a very good thing that this store is so far out of my way, cuz even though I enter many like it, and manage to exit with little-to-no wallet damage, here I spent almost $30 in a matter of minutes.
It has a bit more of an ole-tyme feel than my closest cheese-merchant, with bulbous mounds of it hanging from the ceiling. MMmmm.
I got some fancy French mustard, a little bite-sized wheel of brie (presumably what French children get in their lunch-boxes?) and the best part- a "cheese grab bag"! My cheese-love is usually confined to balls of Tre Stelle mozzerella (which I find to be rather luxurious, especially if you eat the whole thing), but for the first time, at an extra 30% off, I got buy some of what I like to call "high class cheese". I haven't tasted it yet, but it smells deliciously pungent. -

Oh hai. In teh beginnin Ceiling Cat maded teh skiez An da Urfs, but he did not eated dem. But, Ceiling Cat did eated teh cheez frum Leslieville Cheese market.
No seriously, if Ceiling Cat were to come to Toronto, I'm almost positive the first place Ceiling Cat would go is the Cheese market. If cat, I have to seriously question why the hell Ceiling Cat would keep such an awesome place hidden for me for the year i have lived here. What the hell? I love cheese. I love trying new cheese. So Ceiling Cat, how can you watch me masturbate, but not tell me that the Cheese Market exists?
This is a great place. Their selection of cheeses is enough to make even the pickiest of eaters happy. My only problem is the pricing. This place is expensive.
I felt the need to review this place. Generally I'm more witty and funny, but I'm tired. Maybe I'll update it one day. -

It is, simply, one of those perfect little neighbourhood cheese stores. Your best bet is just to ask the staff to suggest an interesting combination of cheeses; they know their stuff and won't do you wrong. Their dips are also excellent, including the best humous I've ever had. If you're split between gourmet and childhood indulgences, you must have a grilled cheese sandwich with green tomato relish.

If this review was based on the cheese alone, I would have given it a 4 star rating as I am enjoying a 5 year old cheddar at the moment, with the most delicious crystal crunch. Also picked up a very nice Stilton. I would have picked a couple of other choices, but unfortunately the staff was so unpleasant all I wanted to do was leave. When I first arrived, there were a guy and gal behind the counter, and it seemed all that they could do to serve ONE customer. No worries, sometimes people are hired for looks rather than basic human interaction so I patiently waited. The person ahead of me finished up and left. When the guy found the time to attend to me, it was almost as though he didn't know why I was in there in the first place. I mentioned that I was looking to put together a cheese plate for the night (as I had no idea of the selection they had as almost every cheese was out of the display and behind the counter. (presumably because they were sooo busy they didn't have time to put the cheese back after they cut it.) |He didn't offer any suggestions, instead offering a condescending shrug and head waggle, as if to say, so? Tell me what you what already! So I pointed to some of the cheese left in the display and asked for a taste. It was like I asked him to remove one of his eyelids. Eventually I pointed to the cheddar and mentioned that I would like some blue cheese. The gal completely ignored the whole scene and kept herself busy examining her nails. He could have doubled what I bought had he showed any interest in customer service. I'm actually a little concerned that Queen West is leaking into Queen East. Owner of Queen East Leslieville Cheese Market-this is a shout-out to you~your staffing choices need to be seriously re-evaluated!

It's going to be very hard to be impartial for this place, because if I was forced into a deserted island food choice, cheese would be it. But the beauty of this place is that it is filled with delectables that all compliment the main item for sale. You are surrounded by fresh, daily purchased breads - the cheese covered sourdough is my favorite (easy to polish off in one night with the right cheese - a St. Andre perhaps?). There is a display of locally made cured meats, in-house spreads like the creamy blue cheese walnut, or a chipotle and cheese dip ( at a certain point you forget the exact ingredients because you cant stop drooling and making embarrassing "mmm" sounds from the enjoyment.) I could go on forever, but look for a foodie's take on the grilled cheese, some incredible cracker selections, and feel free to ask for tastings of any cheeses as the staff there are very helpful. Also, there is a great cheese and beer night class that's lots of fun except for the fact that you'll be standing in the store crowed with other 'classmates', but you'll be slightly drunk anyway so... Slurp! Slurp!
