Review from Angry A.
Went on the two hour walking tour on a hot day in July. Our guide was Mike. We had just the opposite experience from Brenda C.
Prior to the start of the tour Mike took the time to introduce himself to each person on the tour and especially to my teenagers. I was appreciative of him engaging them throughout the tour (believe it or not some teenagers don't appreciate a great deal of history! about a foreign country). I'll admit that I didn't know a great deal of the history of Quebec or Canada (apologies to our norther neighbors), but when we were standing looking towards the citadel and Mike was explaining the battle of the Planes of Abraham, I was enthralled. He was able to take us back to what it must have been like with just words and hand motions
We did walk a lot and luckily it was downhill. Maybe it's juts because II'm not from Canada, but all the other stops were just as interesting. The tour wound up being closer to 2 and half hours and ended up just below the Frontenac in the lower portion of the city.
He was right on about dining recommendations. At the end of the tour he recommended a couple of ice cream shops, knowing that the kids would appreciate that. He was right.
It's the guide that makes the difference and I'm glad we had Mike. Sadly, at the end of the tour he spend a lot of time with follow up conversations and we did not get a chance to tip him (I know I'm coming off as a cheap tipper). I think we were used to five or six announcements during the trip saying tips are acceptable (you know who I'm talking about Hawk's Cay resort parasailer). I wish I'd tip more. -

The tour promises to "lead you through all the important sites of Old Quebec" and "meanders next to Quebec historical sites such as the Citadel/Musée Royal 22è Régiment, Chateau Frontenac, Quebec fortifications, Place Royale and uncovers many hidden Quebec sites!" And in fact, I'd say that was accurate - it leads you through and meanders but doesn't actually go to any of these sites or give you any real information about these places.
If you went over that hill you'd be able to see the Citadel, down the road where we aren't going is a very famous site, just around the bend is something quite famous you'll never see on this tour...what?! When I took the Grand Tour I was actually hoping to see some of the famous sites of Quebec City and learn more about the history of this beautiful city. Instead, our tour guide pointed to locations and told us how great the various tours were at these sites. Wish I had taken one of those instead! It was very disappointing to say the least.Comment from Carl L. of Les Tours Voir Quebec 8/10/2010

As has been pointed out, this tour really just points out the attractions, rather than entering them (for the most part; we did go into a church), but that was what I was expecting. The thing is that the guide was really long-winded, and often seemed to lose track of what we were talking about -- and so I felt like he "compressed" a 45 minute tour into 2+ hours. By the end of the two hours people were making excuses to leave early.
Bottom line: it was just OK (and wear comfortable shoes if you go). Or just look at any website or guidebook and pick the five most important sites. Then you can go to them and take their tours. That would probably show you more, at about the same price. -

We did the grand tour and the food tour both on the same day and I thought it was all perfectly fine. I wasn't expecting either to be particularly "grand" anyway, but both went over-time because the guide was happy to show us around to a lot of different spots and was nice enough to answer all our ridiculous questions. Unfortunately, as others have said, the guide is the most important part, and that can really vary so much. Our guide, Marie, was nice and professional (we did not do any introductions, which I thought was fine, since I work in the business and I know it's so impossible to remember names on such short notice). We did not realize at all that we should have tipped her! We're terrible!
