Wonderful service, reasonable prices, and beautiful stuff. My engagement ring was bought here, and while much of what's on display is fairly traditional, my ring is different (rubies instead of diamonds, multiple stones instead of one big stones, etc), so if you want to deviate from the beaten (mined?) path, this is a good place. I also brought in my grandmother's pearls to be re-strung, and they came back so polished and gorgeous it looked like a whole new necklace!

Because we were so satisfied with all of our previous experiences, we decided to buy our wedding rings here. They were very patient with our need to try on different rings about twelve hundred times. They also were great in working with us on price---they helped us figure out that small differences in width added up to huge price differences (ditto the comfort band option, although I loved it so much I spent the extra to have it).

Only downside/thing to know is--there's usually only 2-3 people working there, and on a Saturday, it can get very busy with all the couples in there. The one-on-one service means that you may wait ten minutes sometimes for your turn.

    LGBTQ friendly.

I went to Leo Carroll because of other Yelp reviews and definitely was not disappointed. My fiancé gave me his grandmother's engagement ring, which was fused to a matching wedding band, had a hinge in it for arthritic knuckles, and just didn't fit me.

I went to a few other jewelers in DTX for estimates and one of the more established names wanted to charge us almost $1,000 to split and reshank the rings and insisted that I do prong work as well because of the wear on the ring.

When I went to Leo Carroll, they tried to talk me out of doing any work at all because the hinge work was very well done and expensive (made out of platinum), but since the ring didn't fit I asked them to do it anyway. They then told me that prong work was a really bad idea because it would show on the ring and advised me to just keep an eye on the prongs and to come back if any of them started to lift. They fixed the ring for around $300 and my fiancé and I were both really impressed with their service and professionalism. We will definitely be shopping for wedding bands here.

More love for Leo  Carroll.  My husband brought in a ring to have it re-sized, and my mom tagged along with a couple of baubles to have looked at to see about insurance stuff.  We learned a ring wasn't the material we thought it was, got one big yellow topaz so sparkly and prongs checked, and those were all free.  I do need to go get an actual appraisal.

Ring sizing is the same amount as when I took my ring in ($35) and they ended up buying the piece of white gold they took out of my husband's ring for $20, so it ended up being $15.  And it's all shiny again.

I was on YELP referring a friend to Leo Carroll and realized that I never wrote a review.

My husband bought my engagement ring here and we are very satisfied. My husband wanted a custom design and they helped him through the entire process.

Once he decided on the overall design, Leo Carroll's ordered dozens of diamonds for him to choose from.  He went back 3-4 times to find the perfect diamond.  They never pressured him or complained about him being too picky (making them order more diamonds to choose from.)  I went with my husband to get is sized and he and the staff acted like old friends.  It's definitely a much different experience than going to a large store.  One that you want when making such an expensive purchase.

The prices were competitive with other online vendors (Blue Nile) and he found them to be much cheaper than places downtown (for the same quality.)

I went to Leo Carroll Jewelers just to get ring guards for 3 rings. The service was quick and much less expensive than anywhere else.  In addition, I was told to come back if I needed any adjustments.

There is nothing much to add beyond what the other reviewers have already stated.

Expert. Friendly. Reasonable. Trustworthy to a tee. Convenient. Great selection in a small space. Local and, now, historic.

My soon to be wife and I found them by word of mouth and just bought our wedding bands there.

I cannot say enough good things about Leo Carroll Jewelers. I received my grandmother's engagment ring without a stone so we went there to get it resized and  to pick out a stone. The staff really spent time with us to explain how to pick a diamond and were really knowledgeable about the repairs that needed to be done to the ring (resizing and repronging). The prices for the repairs were sensational and the price for the stone was more than fair.
We're going back for our wedding bands for sure. So glad we went with Leo Carroll and not some jewelry warehouse or major chain.

I absolutely love Leo Carroll Jewelers, the staff who work there, and would recommend it to anyone looking for engagement and/or wedding rings.  I bought my engagement ring here, and both my husband and I bought our wedding bands here.  I have received so many compliments on them!

Leo Carroll has a great selection of rings at really great prices (my husband and I were stunned when we first went to look at engagement rings).  The staff are incredibely attentive and helpful, and we never felt pressured to buy anything.  Everytime I go there, whether it is to pick something up that we had purchased or to ask a question, they have also offered to polish my rings.

If you are looking for a small, local establishment to buy an engagement and/or wedding band, this is the place to go!

I ended up proposing to my girlfriend before having a ring in hand (too exciting to wait!)... and thus had the major benefit (in my opinion) of having her along for the ring shopping. We came to Leo Carroll having been referred by our married friends, and I don't know if I've ever felt as comfortable making a major purchase as I did here.

Sean and his wife--I've just forgotten her name but she's awesome, too--patiently helped us figure out what we like in the real world after having spent days online looking at antique settings, then ordered a couple different diamonds so we'd have multiple options when we came back. Sean was especially understanding and helpful as we tried to find a beautiful ring to match our lackluster budget, and gave me an amazing piece at an exceptionally forthright and fair price. A+ so far... these guys are great.

But then the pièce de résistance: the day the setting and diamonds came in, my girlfriend was already out of town to be a bridesmaid in our friends' wedding. With only a couple hours before I had to leave as well, there would have been no time to get the ring put together so I could take it along. Leo Carroll Jewelers to the rescue! They heard me mention the gf was bummed that her finger was going to be bare for the photos, so they gave me one of their silver/cubic zirconia sample rings in her size to take along so she'd be appropriately jeweled for posterity. It was an amazingly thoughtful touch--and totally unexpected--and made absolute devotees of my new fiancée and me. Seriously, I just joined Yelp to write this review. If you need any jewelry, for any reason, any time, please go see these folks!

Yes, I am a follower, a fan, a lover of Leo Carroll.

I go in on a rainy Saturday (Engagement Ring Shopping Day), just before Mother's Day (Charm for the Charm Bracelet Day) and only a week before graduation kicks in (Token Boston/Cambridge Memento Shopping Day).

There was also a sketchy guy loudly shopping for a girlfriend but his credit card was denied and he fled the scene quickly, although no one gave him the evil eye. As he had occupied the staff for quite some time, I am sure they were annoyed but they never let on. These folks are pros.

What did I need? A simple gold jump ring for a pendant. The couple next to me were looking at $10,000 engagement rings. I spent five measly bucks. And I was treated with just as much care, concern and professionalism as the big spenders at my elbow.

It's a bit hard to spot as it is not at street level. You go up the steps right next to S and S and it is the first door on the right.

It's a smallish space but filled with gorgeous jewelry, including estate pieces, gold and silver charms, affordable earrings and bracelets and so much more. It's not just for the affluent big spender- trust me! I saw so many things I wanted and they were surprisingly affordable.

Next time I need a watch battery, a new bauble for a hot party, get engaged or graduate, I am going here first. I am so glad stores like this exist. Love you, Leo.

How I bought Sarah's engagement ring

    1) I asked my GF for some ideas of what kind of an engagement ring she wanted- she showed me a few online- and I immediately bookmarked them

    2) Six months later- I printed out color pictures at work, looked on yelp, and saw that Leo Carroll had high reviews

    3) I went in on a Saturday when she was waitressing- found the location above S&S, and it was a little crowded- but I was shown a few diamonds and showed them my print outs- and I basically broke a sweat thinking holy sh*t this is getting real fast.  All in all they were very helpful and friendly- but didn't try to make a sale that first day or try to convince me of anything really- I'd call it a fact finding mission.

    4) I went back again- this time right when they opened- and it was just me and Sean talking about diamonds and the 4 C's.  I had a little print out cheat sheet so I could understand what a J - VS 1 diamond was compared to a H- SI 2.  This trip I would call a serious fact finding mission.  We discussed the difference between diamond certifications and why one was better than the next.  The whole time there was no pressure to buy- and a genuine care in explaining to be the details of this very expensive purchase.

    5) I took my fact finding mission out on the road- one stop was another family jeweler (who tried to sell me a ring within minutes of me walking in the door) and another was a large chain with tons of advertising.  In the end I realized if 'He went to Jared' then he helped pay for the national ad campaigns and large flashy stores because the rings priced much higher than at Leo Carroll's.

    6) Back to Leo's to talk to Sean- Showed him the setting I wanted, told him the level of 4-C's I wanted, including the size.  He searched the eastern seaboard and found just the diamond I was looking for and got the perfect setting to complement it.

I was very happy with the ring and the customer service at Leo Carroll's and I would highly suggest them to anyone looking for an engagement ring.

    Good luck with your search!

Leo Carroll Jewelers came very highly recommended and everyone was absolutely right. I would also highly recommend it, and look forward to buying our wedding bands here.

My fiancée and I came here to look at engagement rings. I had done some research online, so I knew the basics about the 5Cs. My fiancée had looked at some styles online, and had an idea of what she wanted. Most importantly she had shown me the prices of the rings she liked. We chose Leo Carroll because we wanted a stress-free, friendly environment to pick out the ring.

The entrance is very easy to miss, but once we found it, we spent some time talking to Sean. He was very patient as my fiancée tried on a large majority of their engagement rings. They had a good range of styles, and we finally settled on three we liked. I was blown away by how much less the rings themselves cost.

Next came the diamonds, and Sean showed us a few different kinds, and expertly set them into the rings. We picked out exactly what we liked, and it was ready two weeks later.

My fiancée is very happy with the ring!

p.s. Her ring has small diamonds in the band, and a week later one of the small diamonds fell out. I called Leo Carroll, expecting to have to pay for the diamond and service. I was pleasantly surprised that they would take care of everything free of charge. The ring was fixed and polished up a few days later.

p.p.s As far as the debate about going with your gf to pick out rings vs. making it a surprise, my two cents is, I'd rather it be exactly what she wants. Guys, don't worry, she'll be extremely happy to get it when the day comes even if she knows exactly what it looks like.

This place is exactly what people say it is.. family run, very nice... and no pressure to buy.  We went here to look and see what they had available.  Unfortunately, they did not have what we were looking for.  We requested for a specific weight, cut, and color.. he told us he would call us as soon as he made some phone calls and got some stones in for us to look at.

He never called us.. which dissapointed us.  He was so nice.  That is the reason for the 3 stars.

This place also didn't have the band we were looking for.  We were looking for something classic.  We did flip through many books but I guess the problem is.. he could only order something that was already designed.  He was not able to make custom bands.

I was in the market for an engagement ring and came across these excellent reviews for Leo Carroll Jewelers.  I decided to swing by the store and see what they had for inventory.  Sean was very helpful and knowledgeable.  He was able to order me exactly what I was looking for and assisted me in building the 'perfect' (her words exactly) ring.

I would recommend Leo Carroll to anyone looking for an engagement ring or any kind of jewelry.

My girlfriend got a ring from her uncle for Christmas that has been in the family for more than 75 years. The ring is a beautiful diamond ring. The ring has some issues including a crack in the ring and a couple loose diamonds. She wanted to get it fixed up so we turned to yelp and found Leo Carroll. We are familiar with the area so went up the stairs and then rang the bell and were let in. It is a small shop but seems like it has a lot to offer and had some very nice pieces of jewelery. The man looked at her ring and told her he could fix it and it would be a few weeks, due to to the holidays and it would only cost $90. We returned 3 weeks later to pick it up and this ring looked amazing! They did such an incredible job! She tried it on and it was a little loose so they said they would make it smaller at no charge. She is so happy and I would for sure return if I was in the market for jewelery! Highly recommended!!

I went in today to discuss a ring resizing. They were great! I felt very welcome, and the experience was really helpful. I now know the sizes of my two ring fingers (very important!), and I have a temporary ring resizer until I have time to leave the ring for a week. The resizer was placed free of charge, and the entire environment felt like there was no pressure to buy or commit. The resizing cost was estimated at $30, which seems very reasonable.

I am SUCH a fan of this place, and so glad to see the abundance of positive reviews.

My then-boyfriend (now fiance!) and I decided to pick out my engagement ring together. So I did a ton of online research, mostly via Yelp, and kept coming back to the great comments on this shop.

Sadly, the first day we decided to browse rings was a Sunday - which we soon discovered meant most jewelry shops would be closed. We ended up walking into an expensive shop on Boylston Street in Boston, and although they were nice enough, left feeling dismayed by how much the ring might cost us. We wanted something pretty and a decent carat count (ok, that sounds like 2+. No. ;)) but were also hoping to still have money for a wedding and honeymoon afterward. :oP

So the next Friday, we met up at Leo Carroll. We loved that it was a small, independent, family-run shop tucked away in Inman. Although we had to wait a bit before they were free to help us, they did greet us and it gave us some time to browse their engagement ring selection. They had a good range of styles considering the size of the shop/case. I got to try a few different rings as they patiently listened to what we were looking for, and then they pulled out the perfect setting. I was interested in a cushion cut diamond (so perfect! square-ish cut, but with rounded edges and tons of fire!) and although they didn't have one in stock, they ordered and called us in the next week to check it out.

The result - which I got about a week or so later via the "official" proposal, was an amazingly-sparkly, gorgeous ring that I've been getting tons of compliments on. And the best part is that, even with all its sparkle, it didn't cost an arm and a leg. They never pushed us to spend more, and kind of estimated how much we might want to spend on the diamond - which was perfectly in our range.

We never would have found this place if it weren't for Yelp, so I'm really happy it's on here. And I've got to contribute to the positive reviews in hopes that others find this place and have as much success as we did.

Can there be a more beautifully run Jewelry shop?  Family owned, considerate and kind.  Every family member is a jewel in there own right.  I came here and found several items that I cherish.

They helped me in all my endeavors, from teaching me to pull out the little button on my watches so I'd save the battery life, to fixing my warped engagement ring that I "lost" and then found hours later on a street in Watertown (now THAT's a story you need a glass of wine for!) to replacing a small diamond even to providing a timely appraisal for my jewelry to give to my insurance company - they did it professionally yet with the kindness of friends.

Their jewelry is one of a kind, high-class with a reasonable price attached.  I found items that I get raves about every time I wear them.

I sent my very good friend, Roselle here to find her amazing engagement ring.  They had looked and looked for something different and I said "Go to Cambridge and stop in at Leo's"  - they found it what they were looking for.

I so recommend this place to everyone - even though I would love to keep them all to myself ;)

Stop in and say hi to Leo and his wonderful son, Shaun.

I wear a lot of colorful kids-style watches and most places just laugh when I tell them I want the battery changed. Finally, I had no functional wristwatches and decided I needed to stop by a jewelers.

I decided on Leo Carroll's because of all the great reviews, and because it's super close to where I live.

It's hard to find at first. It's a small door, unlabeled, and then up some stairs to another small door. Make sure you bring the street number with you so you can find it. It looks more like a lawyer's office than a jewelry store, but once inside I knew I was definitely in the right place.

The people were very helpful - they happily fixed my watch for $5 while I waited (and didn't make fun of my stylistic choices!)

I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone, at least if you want to get your favorite plastic watch fixed :)

Five stars aren't enough.  Exceptional customer service, through and through.

First, fiance and I dropped by on a busy Saturday to check out some engagement rings.  They were very patient with us and talked us through their inventory, explaining everything and answering any questions we had.

I went back later to pick up the ring my fiance liked the most.  She didn't tell me it was the one she wanted until later, so I was a little concerned about finding it, and it did take some hunting through the inventory before it jumped out at me.  And again, the staff was incredibly patient and kind.

When we took it back to get it re-sized, they got the job done with incredible speed.

Can't recommend this place enough.  Wonderfully, cute little store, beautiful jewelry, great customer service and very much a part of the neighborhood.

The husband & wife team that run this place couldn't be nicer.  When I first arrived I had to opportunity to watch them interact with their customers while I waited and they were patient and warm and seemed genuinely concerned that their clients felt satisfied with their jewelry choice.

I brought in a pair of earrings that were personally valuable (intricate faux gold & rhinestones from India a friend bought me) but not precious in any monetary sense.  They had snapped on account of the cheap material and I had been a bit afraid to bring them to a jeweler for fear they'd be unwilling to help or make me feel silly for wanting to fix cheap earrings.  But the folks at Leo Carroll treated my repair like any other.  And they did a beautiful job (like new).  And all for $5!

I must say I'm just really touched by the warmth and kindness at this place as well as the quality of their work.  Thanks!!

This place really is a hidden gem (no pun intended... well, sorta).  It's nearly invisible from the street and accessed by an inconspicuous office door, and then a doorbell.  But once inside, all friendliness!  I've written in other reviews about the awfulness of my experience of ring sizing with BAAK in Harvard square -- Leo Carroll was the complete opposite.  They did it right the first time, for considerably less than Baak charged, and then offered to fix it if in case it didn't fit quite right, even though they had sized it perfectly.

Incidentally, I also walked in and fell in love with a piece of jewelry that they had and hint-hinted my bf into buying it for me for my birthday.  Jewelry's not really my thing, and this is the first big ticket item I've even had bought (or manipulated into having bought :)) for myself, so it really made an impression -- not that it was that expensive, only about $100.  It was a beautiful string of coppery "chocolate pearls" (not the best name I know) but if you saw them you'd understand...

All in all, awesome experience, and they're my go-to jeweler from now on!

Been here a bunch of times, but this last visit was better than all the other times (which were excellent as well).  Got watch batteries in four watches (including two movados) & had a link removed from a pain in the arse watch (see previous brand) & they polished all them to boot for ~$30 something (including batteries & the labor to replace the batteries - while I waited!).

While I was waiting, I'd asked if they could polish my band - and again, they did this while I waited & free of charge!

You guys are great, keep up the great work Leo Carrol!

This place was great.  I just went there on a nasty rainy day with my baby to get my husband's watch battery repaired.  At first they said it would take until tomorrow to get it done, but then they note that it's raining and did it on-site.  Best part?  They charged me $7.00.  The mall wanted $16.95!

So they're super nice and fully earned this 5-star review.

Go here! Friendly, exceptional customer service. I went here to have my Grandmothers watched looked at for repair, as well as to get advice on a ring purchased elsewhere. My grandmother is long since past but it's a fond reminder of her; and I want to start wearing it again. We also looked at a ring which I hope to have soon; no not engagement but a beautiful gemstone in a white gold diamond setting :-) In all fairness I've yet to receive my watch back so I'll re post my final experience. But based on prior reviews I have no worries that all will work out well. Did I mention prices are AMAZING.

I had referred a friend to Leo Carroll based on lots of word of mouth kudos for the shop.  I have not been in the shop myself.  When that friend called to thank me and say they were "totally happy" with the service I suggested they write a review somewhere - maybe on yelp.  That was awhile ago and I just looked today to see if they ever did.  Whew!  we are not the only ones saying good things about Leo Carroll Jewelers - and since my friend never got around to writing the review - I can tell you that they were incredibly happy and have been "blabbing" to their friends and family, so this is their review by proxy.

Leo Carroll Jewelers provides the best customer service that I have ever had in the Boston area!

My husband and I went there today to have a piece of jewelry cleaned and two watch bands re-sized. They understood the time sensitive nature of our requests (we both had important appointments to keep the next day) and so instead of making us wait until tomorrow, they took care of all three items in approximately fifteen minutes!

I was impressed with how delicately the woman treated my jewelry and my watch. I've had other jewelry stores be quite rough with my jewelry, but the staff at Leo Carroll handled each item very carefully.

Another plus: Both of the employees that I interacted with provided me with more background information on my jewelry, its gold carat weight, and verified the stones in the setting--without me even asking! (It turns out the gift that I thought was costume jewelry is in fact real... which means no more tossing on the nightstand at the end of the night!) Thank you so much, Leo Carroll Jewelers!

What a wonderful place. The staff are so friendly and attentive. Personal experience, reasonable prices, beautiful jewelry! I would never go to another jeweler!

Having pearls set in earrings this week and I am 100 percent confident I will get a fantastic, one of a kind pair made with love!

This place is amazing! I wanted to make sure the appraisal we received on my engagement ring was accurate so I brought it to Leo Carroll. Sean took a lot of time to examine my enagement ring (and he did this for free!!). He was very nice and gave us some great advice.

I can't stand how some jewelers are pushy. You will not run into that problem here. We will definitely be returning to Leo Carroll to purchase our wedding rings.

I concur with all prior reviews. This place deserves 5 stars. I had an 18k yellow gold signet ring resized recently. I was treated with respect and care from the moment I set foot in the shop. Mr. & Mrs. Carroll were very clear and helpful. Mr Carroll took the time to size my finger himself. I was given an excellent price and quick turnaround time for the ring. I knew nothing about jewelry or what to expect. I decided to try this shop based on the large number of positive reviews. I had investigated many of the larger jewelry houses prior to taking my ring to Leo Carroll jewelers. All of which had very mixed reviews regarding price and service.
My ring has a significant amount of sentimental value beyond its straight $$ value based on the current price of gold. This made choosing a jeweler a stressful experience. I am pleased that I chose Leo Carroll Jewelers. I will certainly recommend them to anyone I know in need of  jewelry repair or purchase.

Great place, I always prefer the family businesses. They were very friendly and took care of repairing my wife's ring while I waited. I will definitely return for my next jewelry purchase.

Exactly the kind of perfect, neighborhoody, family business that you feel great giving your money to.  I recently had a very cheap but much loved pocket watch that needed to have its clasp repaired.  Not only did they not turn their noses up at my watch's lowly provenance, after the guy fixed it, he refused to charge me.  Everyone there (mom, pop, and child, I'm assuming?) was super friendly.  If I have any more jewelery business to conduct in the future, this will definitely be my first stop.

Those looking for help with an engagement ring need look no further. The staff at Leo Carroll is extremely helpful and courteous - and there's zero pressure. I had them do a setting for a diamond I bought elsewhere, but I don't doubt they can put together the whole package. I'll definitely shop here again. One piece of advice - get there well in advance for anything that's timely so there's plenty of time to look at items and talk things through with the staff.

I chose this place to purchase the engagement ring for my fiancee last year, based on the strength of the other yelp reviews. The owners were very nice, patient, and even willing to keep the store open a little later so I could get there from my workplace during a busy weekday. They also gave me ample time to make a decision with no pressure. We are very happy with the ring!

I was looking for a local jeweler to clean my pearls and engagement ring before my wedding, and based on the previous reviews went to Leo Carrol. Great location, right in Inman Square! They cleaned my pearls, adjusted the clasp, cleaned my ring and checked the prongs- all at NO CHARGE! The staff was friendly and very helpful. I will definately go back there in the future. Interesting selection of jewelry also.
