Because I wanted to eat seafood by the water and I needed a table for 12 and because my cousin was paying for it, I had a great time at Legal Harborside.
The cocktails in the third-floor lounge (with a great harbor view) were awful, but the food on the first floor was amazing. My favorite: the stuffed artichoke appetizer, which is loaded with scallops and shrimp. I prayed it never would end.
Also, the staff was kind enough to keep the kitchen open for members of the family who arrived late. Classy. -

I actually just created an account so I could share my experience...my wife and I are on the rooftop right now and have literally been sitting here for 25mins on the railing without being served...the server continually walks but has only acknowledged us once (mind you it's still fairly early and not very busy)...still haven't even placed an order!!!! We were prepared for dinner/drinks but after this service we're leaving...
Very cool spot but can't explain how bad this service is.........oh well, good try -

This review is strictly for a few experiences drinking on the upper floor.
We got comfy seats, but if we hadn't it would have been way too crowded. The drinks were overpriced across the board. I know its the Seaport, but mixed drinks at over $10 is bad business. The crowd was rowdy for sure, and not really my scene.
Our server was visibly agitated when I ordered a water. I'm sorry that I'm not made of money to take down an overpriced, and not very creative martini. I ended up with an alcoholic libation later, but she was resentful of the party for taking her prime real estate, even though the rest of us were indulging heavily.
Pros, the space is nice. The view is great. I enjoyed the seating we snagged. The music was good, albeit a bit loud, and the door staff were very polite and pleasant. -

This review is strictly pertaining to the 2nd/3rd floor bar life on weekends.
MA residents pride themselves on being welcoming, tolerant individuals. But when a bouncer on the decks bounces the one Indian man in the bar, without reason or circumstance, it makes me never want to come back again; I've never been so embarrassed for a colleague.
I can guarantee that I will never, ever, return to this bar. If you're paid to "watch the bar" that doesn't attain to discrimination. Don't expect any more business from me, or my company, ever again. -

When: Saturday 3:00pm
Where: 3rd floor
What: Drinks
This place was PACKED.
The view was fantastic, the decor was cool, and a lovely couple got our attention and gave us their waterfront seats when they took off. I was afraid that Legal would've jacked up the drink prices for such a spot, but surprisingly a Bud Light was only $5.50 and their limited menu (mostly raw-bar and sushi) weren't overpriced either.
I took a quick tour of the first floor and loved how open the space is. This is, by far, the most well designed Legal's I've ever been in.
Tip: If you're driving here, there's a parking garage across the street for about $10 an hour so you might as well valet park and save some money if you're staying for awhile. -

The best outdoor rooftop place for drinks in Boston that I've found so far.
A bit out of the way, but the view of great, and the atmosphere is lively...
The rooftop serves sushi and a limited seafood menu (chowder, lobster roll, etc.).
To my surprise, the sushi is actually quite good! I liked the rolls, and I've seen bigger groups getting sushi boats that looked pretty impressive too.
Drinks are not too special though, and pretty light on alcohol. -

The longer I wait to review the 2nd Floor of Legal Harborside, the lower its rating gets. So I figured I should get on it before the rating dips to zero. With a breathtaking waterfront location, pristine dining room, tasty drinks, and a menu that screamed of quality seafood, this imposing structure stood full of promise. This promise was manifest in the saintly patience of the staff. Thanks to a couple of incompetent cabbies, our group ended up being 45 minutes late for our reservation, but the host and hostess showed no signs of irritation.
Unfortunately, when it was time to order, Legal Harborside showed its true colors. The majority of my table of 8 wanted to order it, and the remainder of the table was fatally allergic to half the things on it, but we were informed that it was not possible to accommodate that. Translation: order from the regular menu or die. Great service. Truly.
The entrees weren't much either. My Olive Oil Poached Tuna was totally bland though the tuna was perfectly seared. Seared but not salted...
The Misty Knoll Farms Chicken was better, and I was told that the Alaskan king crab topping theFilet Mignon was incredible.
The dessert was a so-called chocolate mousse that turned out to be more of a gooey indecision. Too moist to be a brownie, too dry to be a mousse. Weird...
I feel some residual guilt writing a bad review since the hosts were so polite about our tardiness, but I imagine it's easier to be patient when only half the dining room is full at 7 PM on a Friday night. I think I'd jump into the harbor before I came here again. -

This is a great spot to grab drinks on most days, but usually the place is packed. The service was great and we loved the energetic vibe. Obviously the view is spectacular and the decor goes a long way there.
Tried to avoid the nights when everyone usually goes out because could be left waiting for 45 minutes. Overall, it was a great experience and it is very interesting watching the transformation of this area of Boston. -
Review from Debra L.
Loved the 3rd floor for an afternoon snack on a sunny winter afternoon. Beautiful space and view and wonderful service. I imagine in the summer this place would be insane, but it was perfect in February.
I had a glass of Prosecco and my husband had a delicious Bloody Mary. I had a sip and regretted not getting one myself.
The upstairs menu is limited but we were fine with that. We shared a dozen delicious oysters and a spicy tuna roll. It wasn't like a typical spicy tuna roll. It was more like a plain tuna roll with a mildly spicy sauce drizzled on top. I kind of liked it that way. You could really taste the tuna which was fresh and delicious.
I will definitely be back here!
PS - It KILLS me that this place didn't open until after I left Fort Point Channel. Booo!Listed in: Under the Sea

Went to legal harborside with a friend for drinks and apps on the roof (top floor) and loved it! Perfect portioned food and menu made specifically for light snacking/dinner. Also their pitchers of cocktails were great and the view amazing. The only downside was the wait to get upstairs.

We (party party of 10) visited this establishment mid week. The atmosphere and view were beautiful. The waitstaff professional and attentive, not very engaging though, however that maybe something that is liked by some and not others. The food was very good and cooked as ordered.

2nd floor of Legal Harborside. I love the way this place is setup. 1st floor casual dining. 2nd fine dining. 3rd outside bar. There was a concert going on next store, score for us!
I was visiting the home town and decided to come here for a nice dinner with my girlfriends. The waiters are so attentive, and so helpful with their food selections. It was a long dinner, but an exceptional one. We left with home made mini cookie instead of mints. :) I definitely will be back.
Food:
- Bread plate: ridiculous!! :) The corn bread, I think I had more than my share. Sorry, I love corn bread.
- Melon Soup with Shrimp Salsa - Chef's surprise. Wasn't sure how this would taste, but wow!
- Steamed Mussels: not too bad, but didn't wow me. Plus was that they were out of the shell
- Butter Poached Lobster: holy crap. Yay for being completely de-shelled. The flavor was ridiculous!!! So sweet, and juicy.
- Desserts: all were good! Don't remember what I ordered, but I left happy.
Maybe I'll try the first floor this time, since they offer different food. -

So if you are going to go to the first two floors then I would mark this place much higher - the second floor is definitely 5 star. Now on to the review of the third floor...AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Where do I start - here is basically how the meal turned out:
1. Asked the server which sake she would recommend - she chose the most expensive which we obliged given our experience on the second floor. Big mistake - it was a plum juice sake blend which had the feel of desert wine. The waitress had no idea what she was speaking about. To top it off our sake was served in wine glasses which just doesn't fit the drink.
2. The edamame was probably cooked by Captain Crunch - pretty much raw.
3. I didn't realize crab was served with the shell on in sushi. My wife found several pieces of crab shell in her California roll including one the size of a quarter.
4. The service:
a. Our waitress was hard to track down even though there were 2 servers and a bartender and the place was 25% full. When she did come over and we informed her of the shell in the sushi she reached down to try and remove it with her HANDS from our plate which had another type of roll (which we weren't going to eat anyways - but who does that!). She then brought us the bill and charged us for the roll we had sent back - which after I pointed, she removed. There was also a complete lack of an apology for their horrendous food.
b. On our way out the the door man had asked how our food was and we said not very good. He asked us to elaborate and we politely declined - he pushed a few more times and we finally described out experience. His response was "Well at least come back for drinks" to which I responded "You can get a drink anywhere." Absolutely clueless to the quality of their food.
I have to say that this was a huge let down and am shocked that they had such little care for their drinks, food and service.
There are may better places to go for an after work cocktail and snack in the city...actually ANY PLACE would be better. -

I love Legal, and I have never been disappointed by them. I truly thought this would be an easy five-star review, but I have to drop a star for service and price.
My friend and I chose to enjoy a Friday night on the second floor -- fine dining. So, I can understand the food being a bit spendy, but I thought many of the prices were over the top, especially given the service faux-pas. When you charge that much, everything should be perfect. Instead, I felt incredibly rushed by our waiter, who kept returning to the table when we had dropped many a subtle hint that we had not had a chance to look at the menu and wanted a leisurely meal where we could talk and relax. This frustrates me at a fine restaurant.
Ok, enough of the bad, and on to the amazing! The building is incredible; you cannot miss the stunning glass and wood structure on the waterfront. Inside, everything is wide open, and the view is the star with floor-to-ceiling windows. We got a seat right next to the window on the water side, and the gracious hostess (Gina) was thoughtful enough to offer me a pashmina should my light sweater not be warm enough next to the glass. Nice touch.
The food was perfection, and I will give the waiter a point for recommending the perfect white for my fish and the perfect red for my companion's steak -- and also for offering the half bottle solution when we were at a loss for how to select a compromise wine to complement both of our meals. We were offered an amuse bouche of, I believe, a potato and turnip soup -- very good. I also enjoyed a cucumber gimlet, which was a well balanced, slightly sweet and refreshing drink.
I started with the steamed mussels ($13) with smoked tomato sauce , dried olives and lemon a brioche. It was the perfect starter for a chilly, windy Boston night -- very comforting. My companion chose the king crab ($12) with wasabi mayo, trout roe and ginger foam. The foam was humorous since it resembled soap suds, but the crap was outstanding.
For entrees, I had the sauteed halibut with lobster, romanesco cauliflower puree, roasted heirloom radish and limoncello foam (more soap suds, $38). I also got to sample my companion's tomahawk steak with smoked bone marrow, cauliflower puree and creamed spinach ($56). This steak was perfectly charred on the outside and tender and flavorful on the inside. It was smoky and salty... like the most indulgent bacon you have ever had.
My halibut was awesome. The saute resulted in a crispy exterior with a nice brown color, but the inside was moist and flaky. I'm normally not a fan of either califlower or radish, but the flavors were incredible and bounced off the halibut well. I wiped the plate clean.
Will I go back? Most likely, but for that price, only on special occasion. -

This review is for Floor 2- not your average Legal!
A chilly Christmas day dinner, we were whisked up the winding staircase past a waterfall to be met by a wonderful hostess dressed as mrs. claus.
She tells us our table is not ready yet and to step into the bar, but we know already it will be worth the wait- she is preparing a booth table overlooking the harbor for us.
Our waiter comes by and is as adorable and friendly as ever, he quickly shows his knowledge of the wine list and helps us select a celebratory bottle.
We peruse the $55 price fixed menu and I find myself completely conflicted- there are too many things to decide! Glancing back at the shiny, polished kitchen with its quiet and masterful chefs- I know I can't go wrong.
Course 1: Mixed greens with blue cheese, candied pecans, and sugared cranberries.
Course 2: Hiramasa with pink peppercorns (my favorite) and preserved limes
Course 3: a perfectly cooked, generous portion of salmon with a delicious glaze and bitter greens
Course 4: Stick toffee pudding (it is Christmas after all) deconstructed. The sticky toffee pudding balls stick to the top of my mouth, but are quickly washed down with little bites of butter pecan ice cream.
I cannot wait to return- especially for a special occasion tasting menu! -

To the manager at Legal Harborside:
I never got to thank you for the complimentary Boston Cream Pies you sent to my table because my raw seafood platter was a little late. That's ok, you're all right! It really made my final day in Boston very pleasant. Thanks!
Take a look at the presentation of the raw seafood platter: somone commented that they didn't think Legal Seafood could be so fancy. It's like the crab is attacking the oysters. See photo above. -
Review from Karyn V.
My boyfriend and I ate on the second floor dining room at Legal Harborside and we will definitely be back! Note, if you want the typical Legal Seafoods menu, this is not the same. In fact, nothing from their menu is on this menu.
First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. The design of the restaurant takes full advantage of the harbor view and is reminiscent of a ship's dining room, with curved rosewood ceiling and glossy black columns inspired by the mast of a ship that anchor the space. There is also an outdoor patio equipped with an outdoor fireplace that allows you to eat dinner over the ocean below.
The menu offers modern seafood and has a unique selection of artisan wines, each produced from a specific terroir representing some of the world's most classic regions from family-owned vineyards. In addition, they offer many normal size bottles with a half bottle option, which is great since a bottle is too much for the two of us. Many great wines are available this way including Paul Hobbs' wines.
For dinner, we ordered the crispy pig's head with fried clams, sauce ravigote, and pink peppercorn as an appetizer. For our main course, I ordered the misty knoll farms chicken with spring sweet pea and egg ravioli, artichokes, favas, and pea shoots, and my boyfriend ordered the butter poached lobster with corn, mussels, chorizo, and fingerling potatoes. All were extremely good although next time we will probably forgo the crispy pig head and try some other appetizer from the menu.
While pricey, Legal Harborside definitely does not leave you disappointed. We will be back!
The second time we went we ordered the clam chowder, which is not listed on the menu. It is the typical Legal's chowder dressed up with a few fried clams and a few steamed cockles. -

Went here tonight for dinner on floor one. Decor is cool and the view is outstanding! For appetizer I had the smoked salmon pizza which was great. For dinner I had the crispy fish sandwich which was okay but could have used more seasoning. However, the plate it was served on was poorly designed for eating. Dessert was key lime pie which was also good. Service was excellent and the location was great.

Review from Kallie F.
Boston, MA
The 3rd floor of Legal Harborside has some spectacular views and in the summer months the roof retracts and all the windows can be folded to make this setting like an outdoor roof deck. The menu only has sushi and some appetizers, but a full bar.
We went on a Tuesday evening to avoid the weekend crowds. However, tis the Season there were two private parties taking place. The downstairs host sent us to the third floor without any mention of the two parties taking place. When we arrived, the next host mentioned the private parties but offered us seats at the bar. This was not our first choice, but we took a seat anyway. We thought we would have to bail since we couldn't seem to get any service.
In the nick of time however Matt, our bartender, came to the rescue.
The sushi was AMAZING, and extremely fresh with great creations from the Sushi chef. We loved the Red Dragon roll and the avocado salad was delicious. The prices were as expected for Sushi in this area ($10-14 for "fancier" rolls).
Matt was also very friendly and described some of their "bar creation" recipes like the Sailor Moon.
Thankfully the great service from Matt and the food made up for the earlier missteps.
We will certainly come back, especially in the warmer months. They are also hosting a New Year's Eve party which should prove to be pretty spectacular considering they have a front row seat of the harbor and fireworks. -

San Jose, CA
The ambience is incredible, and dinner on the patio overlooking the harbor is quite an experience, especially at sunset. I'm fortunate enough to dine at seafood restaurants in San Francisco regularly, and Seattle and Hawaii are two other amazing spots I love for local fish. That said, paying Legal's premium prices for imported seafood is disappointing at best. The one thing I'd recommend hitting Legal Seafood for is their jumbo shrimp cocktail - the shrimp are far bigger than any I've ever seen before. My recommendation: skip the seafood altogether in Boston and head to the North End for some delicious Italian food instead.
