We probably had the worst timing to visit Le Massif last weekend, while in Quebec. It had rained Thursday night and most of Friday... and then it got very cold. So, yeh, lots of ice and I didn't see any snow making machines on the mountain.

It's possible many of the runs were closed because of the ice. However, it made chaos of the remaining open runs because everyone was merging together (all with different levels of experience).

This mountain is best for intermediate to advanced skiiers. There aren't too many greens; half the mountain is black. It's sizable, with more vertical space (the runs are fairly long) than some other mountains. Unlike many NE US mountains, skiiers/riders start at the summit upon arrival and don't use lift tickets (RFID) until you get to the base for your first chair/gondola ride.

Beware if you're heading to the gondola at the base, if there's a long line (sometimes 45-60 min wait), you're stuck unless you can manage to hike out of there; there's no access to other lifts from the gondola base.

They do have some short, slow runs for lessons but there are other mountains that have better areas for beginners.

I can't finish this review without mentioning the amazing view from the summit. Simply gorgeous view overlooking the St. Lawrence river. Wow.

The skiing was crap that day, but the apres was good at the summit bar (live music) and the view was totally worth it.
