I won't argue there are some cheap-looking items at LC.
BUT... check out their more "grownup" clothes: you'll find shapely little jackets, fitted classic cardigans impossible to find elsewhere and sassy pencil skirts. This stuff is perfect for standing out at the office while staying safely within the dress code. It's one of the only stores to offer a happy medium between conservative, bland Banana Republic and gaudy, sleazy Bebe. And it's cheaper than both.
Check out their outlet store on Seymour- loads of stock and great prices!
LC's small sizes are brilliant. Personally I'm tired of clothing companies assuming that if I'm a size 0 I must be a four foot tall stick figure.
Love the customer service: the staff discreetly make sure they're seen and available to help, without chanting the old cliche "HihowareyoucanIhelpyoufindsomething" every ten seconds like every other clothing store in Vancouver. If you give off the vibe you want to be left alone, they're always cool with it. Subtlety is a dying art! -

When I saw the comments and low reviews on other locations of Le Chateau this morning, i thought they were a little over the top. Yes the majority of the styles at this chain are unflattering, cheaply made, and overpriced, but Le Chateau can be useful for a) cheap, readily available all across Canada bridesmaid dress options and b) generic black/silver/gold/white heels to wear to things like weddings . . .
Yes, today I was in the market for shoes to wear to my best friend's wedding and Le Chateau was the first place I thought to look. They did in fact have what I was looking for, but I'm glad I decided to continue on. Elsewhere along Robson I found that BCBG had their black/silver/gold/white heels on sale for 70% off, and Spring had a virtually identical pair to the one I was eyeballing in Le Chateau for $20 less.
So, I am no longer convinced that this chain of cheaply made clothing really serves any purpose at all. -

I used to go to Le Chateau at the mall all the time to get pretty earrings and other cheap accessories. The clothes were always a bit iffy in quality, and a lot of it looked pretty cheap/trashy, but there was the occasional good find and the prices weren't terrible.
Man, have times changed in Le Chateau-land. A few months ago I strolled into the store to see if they had any nice dresses. I needed a dress in a specific color and Le Chateau always has a selection in a rainbow of colors. I had already looked at H&M and other cheaper places and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd suck it up and pay maybe $60-70 for a dress at Le Chateau.
I nearly chateau'd myself when I saw the pricetag on one of their 100% polyester satin dresses. It was $190. I looked around the store for any other possibilities, but even their cheapest-looking, tackiest synthetic jersey dresses were priced outrageously high. With the exchange-only return policy, I was absolutely not going to put down that kind of money.
I ended up finding a dress of similar quality at Winners for $30. -

During a rainy day, LC is definitely the place to go for a little pep in your step. Sadly, I am an american citizen so this place is a little refreshing to me :)

I have to disagree - LC is not that bad anymore. At all. You just look past the tacky silk dresses and there are beautiful things here. Scarves, first of all, in every colour - and consistently there, too. They are beautiful colours too - olive green, rust, pink. Sweater dresses are beautiful and well-made this season and jewelry/purses/belts are chic. I also bought an awesome pair of jeans for $40. Without pictures it's hard to judge but let me just say a gift card from here would not be unwelcome. Their leopard print coat... yum. They just can't seem to let go of their dress aesthetic, and honestly I won't touch a dress from here, they are awful. The thing is this place changes... I think now is a good season. American Eagle should take a hint... time for some change!! I am tired of these major labels sticking to their same boring and unpopular guns for years.

I've been shopping at Le Chateau for decades, literally. When I lived in Ottawa I'd head to Montreal for shopping weekends and always hit their store. It used to represent decent priced, stylish items that I could enjoy a good party in. I didn't really expect anything to last that long. Well (here comes the full disclosure) my son just starting working there. You know what it's like when you get a new car and suddenly you see the same car everywhere. Since he started working there I've been noticing how many items in my closet are not only from there but are clothes I've had for some time. I haven't bought their flashy, glitzy, prom-style items though. They wouldn't suit my age group. Instead they're clothes that I can wear to work or out to dinner. I have one classic cardigan that I wish they made in every colour. I've worn it so much and washed it often and it still looks great. I am far from a model-sized woman yet I find dress pants that fit me well. I just got a pair of their 'Karma' jeans that fit so comfortably, with just the right amount of stretch and style. The other day I wanted a sparkly 'something' to dress up outfits for the upcoming season and got a silvery bolero style cardigan that will be perfect. Even my husband has quite a few shirts from there as well as his one and only suit. BTW - men's alterations are done for free which is how we met our tailor, Albert (see my other post on that). Sure the prices have gone up over the years (that's economics) but I think the quality is solid if you go for the right pieces. Relative to other stores around Robson I'd say they're similar or less expensive. Bonus - they're a Canadian owned success story!
