Review from Isidro G.
We stopped by late in the evening for some micro brews and to sample the tapas. Everything we ordered was great especially the olives, chicken liver, mussels, sauteed mushrooms and the dahl. We samples 3 different Quebecois brews and they were all excellent.
The service was excellent and while the menu was only in French, the waitress was very helpful in translating and making recommendations.
The vibe is very trendy and most of the clientel is comprised of adventurous tourist and local hispters. The have cool music playing and project huge images. A very cool place to hang out and have some drinks and tapas to unwind after a day of sightseeing. -

I've been to the Cercle a few times and it's always been excellent. It's why I was SO disappointed this time around. Our food was, quite frankly,sub-par. My squash ravioli were tasteless, the cream sauce that was supposed to have goat cheese was also bland and tasted of smoked gouda (smoked?!). And then there was the bettes-à-cardes, stems that were stringy like celery. A warm, stringy, chewy celery. My friend's chicken was also still pink inside and the skin was gelatinous and unseasoned. I would have talked to our waiter, but he ignored us for most of the evening, didn't check on us if everything was ok,and at the end when we asked for the desserts menu,he came back 20 min later with the comment: "OH, you wanted desserts right?"
No thanks.
Again, a serious disappointment. -

We were famished at about 6 in the evening. Being it was Wednesday, we didn't think we needed reservations and just popped in for something good to eat. Our host/waiter seated us right away and took our drink orders. He was very nice and spoke English. It took him some time to bring us our drinks, and then it took him a bit longer to come back to take our food order. Hm....there were only about 5 other tabes there, so why the wait? Je ne sais pas.
It took about 30 min b4 we got our apps and salad; however, they were yummy. We ordered the smoked salmon tartar and also the yellow beet salad with goat cheese. It took at least 30 more minutes for our entrees to come out. We ordered the ricotta tortellini and the mixed grill platter. The tortellini came with a butternut squash sauce (?) and was good but a bit undersalted. The mixed grill platter was delicious. The meat was done to perfection. They ran out of ribs, so they replaced those with sauteed pork belly- - sound good? yes, it was.
We were more than satisfied when dinner was over. The service was pleasant, albeit slow. The food - very good. Oh, and the beer? We tried the local ale and another local cream ale...cream ale is something to try - kinda like ale with the head of a Guiness. I love Guiness so I'll be trying this again soon.
If we lived here, we'd come back to this place often. -

Amazing sauces and very eclectic menu sure to excite your palate. Great brunch, their salty crepes were hands down the best! The have interesting screening of drawing and painting being done on the wall. Their bar display is awesome!

Music and great food...
We had a spectacular brunch here on our last Sunday in Quebec. We ordered a very savory eggs benedict with smoked salmon ($13), and an amazing 'french' toast with caramelized pineapple and a framboise/mascarpone sauce ($12). Le Cercle had been recommended for dinner to us by a Quebecois acquaintence but we only made it there for brunch. Nor did we get to see some of the live music they offer (some of it for free) in the bar space next to the restaurant. Le Cercle is in the space that apparently used to house Galerie Rouje on Rue St. Joseph. Yes, put this one on your list. -

Dinner was delicious. My favorite is the Sturgeon gizzard. Service was outstanding and the atmosphere very unique with live music and a slide art show.

Four stars for quality but five stars plus for value! Lovely cuisine at a terrific price. Delightful, especially given that we were in the old, touristy part of Quebec City.

My boyfriend and I were there for dinner on Monday night and had our best meal of our trip to Québec. We had a great wine (Raisins Gamins 2009), a great meal (Rabbit shoulders, Mushroom risotto and Bison cannelloni) and on top there was great ambiance and decor. A must!

We had dinner there last week on our way down East and prior to tonight it was the last good meal we had. My wife had the Cornish hen cooked over a wood fire (she really enjoyed it) and I was adventurous and had the smoked beef cheeks. Very tasty but a bit too salty for me especially with the dill pickles but there was a real smoke flavour for us BBQ lovers. Over all we had a great meal with great and friendly service.

I've been to a number of very good restaurants lately, but Le Cercle is one of the few that I felt compelled to return to. The menu is a funny combination of what they call "tapas" and modern takes on French classics, but it works. Oh, does it work. The frogs legs in my picture were fantastic, crispy outside, tangy sauce, succulent meat. They also have "ris de veau" (sweetbreads) done about as well as they can be. My wife's "tapas" was a lot heavier than that word usually implies, with superbly fatty sausage. I had "boudin noir" (blood sausage) that was in the best French bistro style, light in texture but rich in flavor. The ingredient-driven dishes, such as beet salad with farm cheese and hazelnuts, are also excellent. To top it off, prices are really low. I think the lunch "table d'hôte" (prix fixe) menu was $25, which is a steal for food at this level. My only warning is that vegetarians may have trouble finding something on the short menu; there's usually one appetizer and one main, but that's it.
Wine service is outstanding, though expensive. I loved the tasting of two "sans soufre" (no sulphur dioxide added) wines, which included the Christian Ducroux Regnié (from one of the "crus" of Beaujolais). Clocking in at 12% alcohol, it was light as a feather but packed with crystalline intensity. They bring the bottle to your table, a touch that restaurants at twice this price often can't seem to manage. I can also highly recommend the cider, on draft. Again, delicate in texture but robust in flavor. I can see coming here for drinks alone. One comment, I wouldn't lump the restaurant in with the Le Cercle Spectacle, the club next door. It's not like the comedy shows are taking place in the restaurant space.
We're not French speakers, but got along really well with the staff, who hustle to provide good service. -

Great decoration, great food, great service. All the tapa dishes and salad we ordered were well prepared and so yummy. Great wine selection and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
It was well worth the walk in cold windy and rainy weather.
Only deducted 1 star for the desert (creme bulee slightly overdone and tasted a bit bitter).
