I have been to laziza twice and it is officially my favorite neighborhood restaurant!
The service is impeccable, friendly without being overbearing; the decor is great and the food.... Wow!
Try the cauliflower! It truly elevates a normally bland and boring vegetable! I also love the koshery and I'm not even a veggie! -
Review from Nicholas S.

Went there this past weekend with my girlfriend. Had never been before; took it based on the rating on Yelp.
We arrived and were seated fairly quickly despite not having a reservation. Our drink orders were promptly taken and we perused the menu. We decided to try the crispy cauliflower and the hummus to start.
The hummus was standard fare. The cauliflower was amazing though. Great seasoned taste to it with a zesty dip to try. It was so good, we ordered another one to go for snacks the next day.
I had the chicken Shish Taouk, and my girlfriend the New York steak. The chicken was tender and juicy, and while flavorful, my personal preference wanted a bit more spice. The steak was cooked per order, and was tasty and add good as my girlfriend expected.
Overall, it was a great first time experience at the restaurant. Outside of the chicken, again my personal preference, it was fantastic quality food. -

First thing I noticed when I entered the restaurant was the beautiful decor. It was simple yet eloquent, not overdone. Tables were nicely set and the mirrors along the wall made the restaurant deceptively roomier. Great start to a meal when the restaurant feels inviting.
Started with the crispy cauliflower and the vegetarian sampler, which included tabouleh, humous, baba ganoush, falafel, and pita bread. Smooth and creamy best describes their dips. Wished they had a little more OOMPH but that's probably just me, always wanting the extra garlic kick. Tabouleh was excellent, fresh as can be. Perfect tang. Pita was nicely grilled and warm and ready for dipping. The cauliflower, well what can I say, pleasantly surprised. It was delicious and unique, this coming from a person who is not a fan of cauliflower.
I tried the special of the night, an array of kebabs cooked to perfection. The lamb keftedes were juicy and bursting with flavor. Chicken was moist and also flavorful. Dish included rice which was surprisingly tasty on its own and some grilled vegetables. Two thumbs up for having red peppers which were grilled to perfection.
Service was attentive and very friendly. Both the lady and the man working were very nice. I like how they leave a carafe of water on the table. Nice touch.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and other fellow yelpers. -

Went here after reading the reviews on yelp and it did not disappoint. Let me begin by saying that the service was stellar ! The waitress was courteous, helpful in suggesting dishes, knowledgeable regarding the menu and made us all feel really welcome.
Next comes the food - all 8/10 ! I really enjoyed the mango salad, and the koshery. My friends had the chicken taouk and the lamb. The lamb according to them was just ok. The chicken was flavorful and very tasty. The prices range from $7-$8 for appetizers, and $12-$15 for main courses. It's a great value for the price and the food portions are reasonable. For dessert we had the chocolate flourless cake which was rich and satisfying !
The ambiance is really nice and trendy. Great for a date or small groups of 4-6. I will definitely be returning to try the crispy cauliflower.... -
Review from Luisa D.
I went for dinner this time with a Living Social deal which was a really good deal! It got us two appetizers, two entrees and a dessert and it was more food than the two of us could manage. I got there before my girlfriend and hoped for a glass of their Sangria to start but they hadn't made a batch that day. Maybe it's more of a summer drink for them. I opted for a pomegranate Mojito which was very tangy and refreshing, not sweet at all.
I had been told to try their crispy cauliflower which we did. It always surprises me when a chef can take such an ordinary vegetable and make it taste heavenly. This cauliflower was just that. Our other appie were the prawns sambuca. They weren't very Sambuca flavoured (which is probably good) and they were plump and perfectly cooked.
For entrees we shared Chicken Shish Taouk and Lamb Shank. Everything was beautifully presented and the lamb melted in my mouth. We washed it all down with a bottle of Telmo Rodriguez LZ from Rioja because my friend likes spicy red wines so I knew this would be a good choice for the food and her taste buds. We were too full for dessert so I took an order of Baklava home to the hubby and son. Their appreciative noises told me this was a hit.
As with my other visit the staff are very sweet here. The service was perhaps a tad slow but I could see it was because the customers were enjoying talking with the staff so much. I decided to just chill and pretend I was somewhere in the Mediterranean and not worry about rushing. The room decor is soothing and relaxed.Listed in: Davie Street from West to East…, Dining on Davie Street

We were looking for a different dinning experience when we came up with Laziza. It is a great restaurant with reasonable pricing.
The restaurant was almost empty when we got there and the service was amazing. We ordered the mezze sampler and they had the best falafel and hummus I ever had. The server was really kind and he kept bringing us new pitta basket as we ate.
For the entre I had the duck breast which was cooked really moist and the salad with pomegranate sauce went really well with it. The portions are big enough for dinner and you feel full for the night when you are leaving.
For my next time I am going to leave some space for the dessert! -

After having walked by this place repeatedly a girlfriend and I decided enough was enough - the decor and the reasonably priced menu reeled us in ! The appetizer sampler was delightful - hot pita with fresh hummus, falafel and a bunch of other delicious nibbles that were both fresh and tasty !! I got a bit full at this point so I was happy I'd ordered the beet salad, not going to lie I was NOT overly impressed with it - the gets hunks were massive and seemed like they might have been canned (gasp) ! My friends dish was a lamb sausage dish that lost major points in presentation, if you're keeping score, but was soooo yummy.
I only gave three stars because I'm not sure I'll be back, it was nice and all but I just wasn't wowed by the service or the food -- I mean lets be real good hummus ain't hard to find in this city. -

An unsuspected find along Davie Street. The decor is simple yet modern, relaxing and inviting. A great place to go with that special someone. The food? I think it's one of the better Mediteranean restaurants in Vancouver. Some favs? Try their crispy cauliflower, grilled lamb chop, and their Morrocan-style seafood medley. The friendly and helpful waiter highly recommended their chicken version of the same dish which has a pomegranite sauce base. That's on my list when I visit there again :-)

My friend and I ate off the gluten free menu about a month ago. The service was wonderful, the staff very friendly and the food was delicious. They serve 2 types of gluten free beer, Bards and New Grist, the latter is new to Canada and is excellent.
We started with the crispy cauliflower which is corn battered, deep friend and served with a delicious sesame dip. This appetizer was wonderful and the portion was generous. I had the Chicken Shish Taouk which was served with grilled veggies and a perfect pyramid of saffron rice. My friend had the Stuffed Chicken Breast, which was stuffed with parmesan, sun dried tomaoes and fresh thyme both were fresh and delicious though my friend said she as still hungry afterwards, I was not. We shared a piece of moist flourless (gluten free of course!) chocolate cake. It was quite good.
I highly recommend Laziza with it's friendly service, modern interior and reasonably priced gluten free fare. (They have a regular menu as well) -

Experience started off fairly well but ended on a sour note. I had visited this place once before when the restaurant first opened and found that the food was decent and the prices were okay, so figured it was worth another try - especially since I had a friend visiting from out of town.
The first waiter was friendly and attentive. He brought me two samples (the one he suggested and a sweeter wine). The second waiter who took our orders and served us was prompt and informative. After paying our bill (AND tipping - mind you our bill was over $100) we lingered, still chatting and finishing our drinks. I noticed that there were people who were waiting to be seated but also noted that over the course of finishing our meals and drinks that they had been taken care of, finding seats at tables nearby. After 10-15 minutes, another waiter came to our table and in so many words told us to leave as there were "people who were waiting" -- with NOBODY standing at the door.
There are far better ways of hinting to a lingering party that they should leave, like pouring water several times and asking if they would like more drinks - not outright stating that "there are people waiting so perhaps you should leave".
If you are going to dine here, better make sure you don't linger - you might just end up wishing that you could take back your tip. -
Review from Jeff F.
Junko and I got a deal from Travelzoo for a night at Laziza... and who can pass up a deal... and better yet.... a deal on Med. food.
The Med. that this focussed on (or so it seemed) was the eastern and northern African areas. Big fan of Middle Eastern food... so this was not a problem (I thought there might be some Italian or Spanish food in there too.... but nope... mostly the other areas).
Ok... I wrote a tip... but I'll re-emphasize again here... This is a SMALL restaurant. There are maybe 30-40 seats in the place... and it can go from dead looking to packed within a few minutes... if you're looking to go... make a reservation! With our deal you had to... so it didn't affect us, but a few people strolled in, saw there would be a wait and took off.
They started us off with some chips and salsa. They seemed to be homemade and had a good flavour and crunch to them.
Junko ordered a prawn w/ sambuca appy, and I went for a tabouleh salad (I can't get enough of tabouleh!!!! It's just so refreshing and tasty!)... the prawn appy was a little too sweet for Junko's taste and to me it looked like a mini-meal (it did a lot to fill her up, and kind of spoiled her appetite for the main)... my tabouleh was a little different from few places, but still nice... maybe a little more acidic than I normally like, but still very tasty. They served those with a side plate of little mini-pitas for us to share... cute and tasty.
Mains time... Junko went for a seafood medley... and I went for the lamb chops (other reviewers were raving.. so I thought I'd try... I like me some lamb). The seafood medley was tasty, but after the appy she couldn't finish it all (lunch for tomorrow). My lamb was VERY tasty... they asked how I wanted it cooked, and I asked for med. rare (my normal preference for lamb and steak....) but it came out quite well done... still tasty. It had a side of saffron rice, and some grilled veggies, and Junko's was with mushrooms and couscous.
The evening started with fairly slow service (the place was filling up and it took a while and most of their manpower to get everyone seated)... this would be my only real complaint... but after everything started rolling, things were smooth and tasty.
Would probably give it a shot again sometime, with or without the deal. -

I love the reno job they did with this place - robin egg blues and creams, chic and relaxing and reminiscent of a Greek style.
They were very accommodating with a member of our group that has severe dietary restrictions - much appreciated!
The crispy cauliflower is WAY better than Nuba's, but it could just be my personal preference. I loved the corn flour coating on it!!
As for other starters, the flatbread was very good - large fresh olives, artichokes, mushrooms, tomatoes. The baba ganoush was very creamy and not that garlicky, which I liked.
The lamb chops with rosemary and a sweet mint sauce were very tender and almost.. spongey in texture (it was a good thing) absolutely not chewy at all.
I really liked the saffron sauce on my chicken-wrapped prawns, but it was slightly overcooked. The rice also comes pyramid-shaped which is pretty nifty.
Best part of the night, they wrapped up leftovers with tinfoil into a swan shape - we were beyond entertained! -

5/5 for food, price atmosphere and service!
A few of us decided to try Laziza since it was close to a friend's house and another friend was gluten intolerant. We had heard good things about this restaurant in terms of being quick to assist/substitute food for special diets.
We walked in on a Friday night and there were only 3 other tables. We were lucky to get there before the dinner rush.
Our server immediately seated us and gave us some water. He came back to check on us twice, but we were all so busy talking we kept forgetting to look at the menu.
We decided on 2 appetizers, - the scallops and prawns. Both were scrumptious and wetted our appitites for our entree.
For the entree, I can only comment on my Seafood on couscous. It was flavorful, the seafood was fresh and the couscous soaked in the sauce along with the lemon I squeezed in. It was excellent! Everyone else agreed that Laziza had really great food and would definitely come back.
The server came back to top up our drinks and water at least 7 times that night as well. It was a wonderful evening with friends, eating affordable and delicious Mediterranean food. This is definitely my favorite restaurant on Davie.Listed in: Date Night Suggestions, My Faves

Overall: Good quality "fancy" food and great service at reasonable price
We originally were heading to Stepho's for dinner, that was until we saw the line outside. There was no way in hell we were going to wait that long for dinner! People must either be crazy, OR the food really was that good. Whichever way, I was not going to join the line.
However, we still felt like some Mediterranean-style food. On walking back along Davie street, we passed Laziza, and boy, are we glad we did.
It was a busy Saturday evening, yet they still could seat us within five minutes. The restaurant has a nice buzz about it. I wouldn't say it would be perfect to take a date, as it's a little noisy in here. But the food, service and price is outstanding!
We ordered the "favorites to share for two", for $40, which consisted of an appetizer platter with baba ganoush, feta cheese, olives, tabbouleh, hummus and pita bread; the entrée consisted of shish kebab, kofte, lamb chops, rice and grilled vegetables. For dessert, we opted for a flourless chocolate cake, baklava and two Turkish coffees. Everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented. We also had a cocktail, all in all it came to $68 inclusive of tax, excluding tips.
There is only one fault about this place - the noise levels were a little loud, due to the chitter-chatter of people, which was later drowned out by loud music, resulting in the people chitter-chattering louder. I wished this place was in Seattle and not Vancouver BC! -

What a gem!
We went downtown with the intention of going to Stepho's, but the massively long line up made us rethink our restaurant. Just a block down we stumbled upon Laziza - It was full of people, looked clean, modern and trendy, but most importantly, it had great reviews on yelp! So we walked on in...
The whole experience was brilliant. The décor was very chic, the staff was super friendly, and the food was amazing. To start we we're given complimentary seasoned pita chips and fresh salsa, yummy! I also ordered a basic hummus and pita starter, and when we ran out of pita we we're offered more, fantastic service!
For the main course I had the stuffed chicken breast entrée and it was delicious; served with 4 small potatoes and seasonal veggies. All the food we ordered was presented beautifully, and our waiter/s we're very prompt with our drink refills.
If you're looking for great Mediterranean food with a modern twist, I'd recommend giving Laziza at try :)
Ps. the current yelp picture with the red plate is either really old or wrong? -
Review from Janice M.
Laziza is located in a very diverse neighborhood. This beautiful, clean, classy restaurant is nestled on a street among sex shops, sports bars & hole-in-the-wall eateries. Its an interesting little street. :D
The wait staff was so friendly & attentive. I got a delicious Stoli martini for $6. What a deal, since I'm used the the $10+ drinks in the Bay Area. My 2 girlfriends shared a pitcher of Sangria which was very tasty too.
They give you complimentary house-made crispy pita chips with a mediterranean "salsa". We ordered several things, and they were all really good. I got the lamb chops ($18), and they were cooked perfectly, not gamey at all, and they came with veggies and rice.
I think what made this place so memorable was the wait staff who were very cute (although maybe gay? So what. I love Nate Berkus too), very attentive & helpful. -

Laziza is a great addition to Davie Street. I have now been four times and each visit was fine, so feel I owe Yelp a review.
Recently the guest and I both opted for salads to start. He had beets and greens and I had mango walnut. They were both excellent salads with large portions and nicely prepared. with tasty dressings. I have enjoyed every appetizer I have ever ordered here on every visit. . My lamb Shank was good, and the New York steak was good quality and value. The martinis were nicely made and the water glasses were kept full.
A few criticisms: They tend to overcook meat. The steak was really medium, not medium rare, as requested, and I had the same problem with lamb chops on a previous visit. Our server did not know the wine list well enough, We had to gamble on our choice, which did work out, with a small wine list you should have a good idea about what is offered. . The vegetables with the lamb shank were way over cooked but the saffron rice was just right. Service excellent and attentive. Tables are really close when the place is full. They have a poorly performing HVAC system. In the summer it is far too warm and stuffy and now with the cold days of fall it is now freezing and the door lets blasts of cold air in the room. This is good value. The prices are higher than Sephos but the food quality is enormously better. -

This modern Mediterranean bistro is exactly what Davie Street needed: feeling of upscale but moderately priced, simple yet varied menu, and friendly, straightforward service.

Almost missed this place walking past it, but the sandwich board caught our attention. By 945pm, there was lots of room for a table for 2, although it was packed earlier.
We started with the hummus - a generous enough portion that you have to ask for some more pita to finish it. The lamb shank was amazing value - a huge piece of meat with potatoes and delicious saffron-infused rice. The meat was falling off the bone and soaked in juices. The chicken kebabs were also tender and perfectly done, alongside a stuffed mini-pita.
The service was great, very polite and prompt. Our bill came to $45, incl tax and 15% tip (didn't drink any alcohol). Can't wait to go back! -

Excellent!
Went with my pal for an impromptu dinner, and was overwhelmed with the quality of the food, reasonable prices, comfortable atmosphere, and happy and helpful staff.
I've heard there are line-ups on weekend evenings for dinner. Not surprising! -

Delicious dinner and great ambience. The lamb chops and shrimp special was a delight. My great friend savored the juicy lamb shanks. We polished off a pitcher of sweet sangria. Great service and the prices were reasonable for the high quality of food.

Great new addition to the Davie Street dinner experience. Chef is Lebanese. From the complimentary spicy homemade chips, Artichoke/Spinach salad with Pomegranate Dressing to the Lamb Kafta, everything is nicely presented and very tasty. Price wise its surprisingly affordable. Share dinner for 2 only $30 and it was plenty of food. Very clean looking decor and design. Highly recommend it.

I don't have anymore to add to what have already said here, most of the reviews are good to very good. I agree with them and I enjoy very much for the food and services.
Here is what we ordered:
Beet salad, scallops and lamb chops:
The Beet salad is very fresh and the dressing is just right; the scallops is delicious with a touch of orange sauce; the lamb chop cooked to almost perfection as ordered medium; served with mint sauce. (Far better than Hart House on Burnaby, when I asked for mint sauce for the Roast Lamb, the server doesn't even knows what I talking about and don't have. -see review under Hart House Restaurant in Burnaby)
I don't particularly like go to that part of town for dinner due to the surround and the local atmosphere, but I feel very comfortable as soon as I walk in to this restaurant. The place is very clean and the décor feels very peaceful. The serve staff seems to be quite friendly; I really enjoy my dinner here and definitely will be back. -

Simple, delicious food at extremely reasonable prices! Excellent service and warm, inviting hosts. Offer plenty of choices for vegetarians, and the meat dishes are made with free-range meat! I had the sundried tomato and goat cheese flatbread, tabbouleh salad, and sangria, all quite tasty. Food presentation was appealing and portions were well sized. Will definitely come back here, with more people in tow! Website is http://www.laziza.ca/
