I popped into this fabulous restaurant while on vacation from Vancouver. My cousins suggested we come here and man am I glad they did! The atmosphere was very chique although a little dark. They were comfortable with big soft cushions and sleek tables.

I was with a couple of friends who had also never been here so we decided to try as many things as possible. For our appetizers we tried:

Ginger beef - crispy and delicious! Our favorite!

Spring rolls - crispy and fresh, my cousin's favorite.

Chicken satay - very good although nothing too crazy going on here. The peanut sauce was perfection though and we used it on some of our other dishes.

Dim Sum pork dumplings - Not something I'd have again, being from Vancouver I have had better dim sum. These tasted kind of... slimy? Still good just a weird texture.

For our main courses we shared the following dishes:

Pad Thai - fantastic! Lots of flavour and we put some of the satay sauce from our appy on there, absolutely delicious!

Mr. Chow Mein - This is my cousin's favorite and I can see why! Lots of yummy crispy noodles tossed in with veggies and chicken. Great flavour and texture. Definitely worth trying again.

Butter chicken - Very good butter chicken but compared to the other dishes it came in last place. On its own it would have been a star but there is so many other things to try that I would recommend skipping this dish for something else.

Highly recommend checking this restaurant out if you're ever in Edmonton. There are two locations, one downtown and  then this one. Try it try it try it!

Two Lazia reviews, two days in a row! Why not?

Although I'm a bigger fan of the north side location (perhaps because it was the first of the two Lazias I dined at), this place is still a very fine choice for a night dinner date out downtown or drinks with the girlfriends. I got married downtown last October and I'm pretty sure a LOT of the wedding guests went to Lazia between the ceremony and reception for a drink or two or many.

Like the north side, I love the ginger beef - seriously, you can't go wrong folks. The perfect blend of spices and crunch, the best mix of beef and veggies, all on top of a bed of jasmine rice.

The decor here is a bit weird, like the giant spiky statue. I also haven't found service here to be quite up to bar, but nothing horrible or memorably bad.

Great for a cocktail, even though they're on the pricier side, and you won't feel out of place in a little black dress.

Surprisingly spacious inside, Lazia is a brighter but just as hip for business meetings. I found the ambience very chique but not as dimly lit as say Lux burger bar.

Pretty interesting food items like Kobe beef dishes and fried calamari. I decided to go with the tried and true fish and chips.

Surprisingly enough, the food came out very quickly for a busy lunch afternoon. Rave reviews were given out to the Kobe beef burgers which I kind of regretted not having.

The fish and chips were of the standard affair. Nothing to write home about. In fact, I would actually rate Moxie's fish and chips higher just due to the portion size. The taste didn't really grab my attention, especially the fish. It was almost borderline flavorless.

One thing to note was the waiter mistakenly picked up my friend's dish without asking if she was done with her plate and cleaned the table which I thought was odd.

I would like to try it again simply because of the rave reviews of the Kobe burger.

Service here was brutal, even though it was pretty empty. I ordered the three course dinner for 25 and the salad was good, steak was over cooked but good and the key lime cheesecake was delicious! The white wine sangria was gross,  tasted only like oranges.  Decor is cute and modern but the service was really bad.

I went to the location downtown in Edmonton City Center. It had a nice modern/somewhat art deco decor. It looks like it could quickly go out of style though. The service was okay, but I found whether it be any of the waiters or the host they would constantly not be looking where they were going and not only bumped into me several times for other patrons as well. It was odd.

We started with peel n eat malay bread which was flaky flat bread served with a lentil curry sauce. It was good, but I've had better at an authentic Indian restaurant the week before. For my main dish I had a cuban rack of lamb with mojito mustard glaze and sweet corn bread pudding and roasted root vegetables. Either I really dislike lamb or they just didn't do it properly. I think I'll hesitate from trying that again.

The menu was large and confusing in general. Are they Indian? Greek? Asian? Aside from what I ordered they also offer chicken quesadilla, grilled chicken panini, souvlaki chicken...you see my point?

I suppose it might be good for a group that cannot decide what kind of restuarant they want to go to and don't mind paying those prices.

Lazia is just okay. I'm never wowed by the food. I find the decor to be a little dated for the downtown location when you're in the dining area away from the bar. I had to explain what a dirty martini was,  & that shouldn't be happening. Okay service, okay food, okay decor. Im always baffled how I know I could spend $8-10 more for a fancier meal, but always settle for mediocre. The price is alright here though. Needs to try a few more adventurous food options.

My friends and I were looking for a place to grab some food and good drinks. We checked out a few restaurants, looking at their menus and finally deciding on Lazia.

Definitely a nice atmosphere. Sharp colors and interesting decorations made the restaurant look fun but still fancy.

They had drink specials each night, and, lucky for me, Wednesday nights have bellinis for cheap! Woot woot!

I ordered their Kobe meatballs with naan bread. It was $8 and the food was delicious. The meat was tender and melted in my mouth. However, it was only 2 meatballs. The portion was way too small!

My friend had the same experience. She had the spinach and artichoke dip but there was barely any dip! She really enjoyed the naan bread. She also had a side caesar salad which she said was mushy and gross.

My other friend ordered the Kobe beef burger. He said it was phenomenal. He said the beef was exceptional and really enjoyed his burger. However, his fries were soft and mushy and he had to add salt to them because they were flavorless.

The service was fast and friendly. Although, there were very few customers in the restaurant. Our waitress was always available to refill drinks and ask how we were enjoying our meal.

Overall, I enjoyed the night and would definitely give Lazia another try.

After trying Lazia out at least 6 times, I have concluded that Lazia and I have a love/hate relationship (at least the one in city center).

    Pros:
The idea of Lazia is pretty interesting. Their direction on the food they serve is pretty neat too, (Asian fusion).
I adore their calamari, along with the 2 different sauces they serve with it.
I enjoyed their spring fever special drink.
I appreciate their unique take on martinis: gummy bears? Cappuccino? Etc etc?
Plus, my friend and I were seated very quickly, even during the very busy downtown business lunch hour.

Lazia, I'm trying to like you, but today was pretty disappointing.

    Cons:
After trying actual Kobe beef, I'm questioning whether or not their meatballs are actual Kobe beef. If so, why would you ground up a delicious slab of beautifully marbled masterpieces?

The "Kobe beef" lasagna was lacking flavor, but the other mushroom-based sauce pasta that accompanied it wasn't bad. Their steak sandwich was nothing to write home about, along with the dried cheesy potatoes.

In regards to their takes on martinis, I have experienced that often times, they either taste too sweet or too strong.

The service I have gotten at Lazia has been okay, with the exception of the waitress I had today, whom my friend and I agreed was too quiet and awkward.

Lazia is okay.  There's nothing that really stands out with Lazia.  Unlike others, I had fairly decent service the one time I came here.  It's an upscalish, dressy place with waitresses dressed in dark cocktail dress attire, fitting the stereotype of a fancy joint.  I'm a little tired of places where ambience is everything and service/quality is at a minimum.  I find that Lazia is one among a long list of such places peppered all over town.

The drinks we had here were okay, but certainly not as good as I would have liked them to be.  I didn't have the opportunity to have a full meal, but some of the appetizers, again, were average or slightly above average at best.  I remember the calamari being pretty good, but the spring rolls and dim sum were just okay.

Nothing really stand-out-ish.  It's decent for an evening of drinks and appies and I would probably visit them again.  However, given the vast number of decent and, the few certainly superior places in this part of town, it would be a hard sell to come here too often.

I have been to Lazia a few times over the last 4 or 5 years, and the experience has seemed to get worse and worse. The menu and layout, and seemingly the focus have changed quite a bit; from a restaurant with a quite complete (perhaps even too large) 'Fusion' menu, to a small menu that seems to focus mainly on fancy drinks. The last couple of meals have been really uninspiring, very little flavour and with the appearance of being pre-cooked and re-heated.

I am just not really a fan of 'Fusion' cuisine to begin with. I always seem to have a moment where I end up thinking "Mmm, this is great green curry, why am I eating it with tagliatelle...?" In the past they used to have quite a few Asian-only dishes such as Pad Thai which were better options, but on my last visit these had gone.

Probably an OK place to pop into for a few drinks, and maybe a snack, but not my first choice for a full meal.

Ugh, I really hate writing negative reviews, but unfortunately sometimes the experience just has to be told...

We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon going to the library, followed by the Art Gallery of Alberta, and decided to top it off with dinner downtown. We settled on Lazia, a place we had been to a few times previously, because they have a nice, varied menu, and we've always had great food there.

I ordered the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and my wife had a 6oz Filet Mignon, and we started it with the sweet potato fries. That was our second choice of a starter, as they were out of the bread we wanted. The food was delicious; my sandwich was a huge chicken breast, and though I didn't find it spicy at all, it was exactly what I was looking for. My wife's steak was cooked perfectly, and she devoured it.

So, if the food was so good, why such a low score? The service. Simply put, it was atrocious, and there's no excuse we could find for it. The place wasn't busy - there were maybe 8-10 tables, and 4-5 servers, so no one was overworked (some looked a little bored). The poor service started when my drink arrived, a Sprite. I took a sip of it and noticed not one, but two hairs in the drink. They weren't mine, and they were too short to be the server's; it was a bit gross, but I didn't make a big deal out of it. She apologized and brought me another one which was hair-less. My wife needed another minute before deciding on what to order; 10 minutes later, our server came back (keep in mind they weren't busy). Later in the meal my drink sat empty for 9 minutes (after we realized we were getting shafted in the service department I started timing things for the review) and I was given the knife for my wife's steak. When the bill came I was a bit surprised to see that I was charged for the pop that included the hair, but we were even more surprised to find my wife's 6oz steak was listed as an 8oz (I think it's $6-7 more).

When I get good service I enjoy leaving big tips; often 20%, sometimes 25% if it's outstanding, but I rarely leave less than 15%. She got $1 on a $60 bill. Yes, I felt bad leaving such a small tip, especially because my wife is in the service industry as well, but we had really, really poor service, and her tip reflected that. I hope she checks this review and reads why we gave such a small tip (I left a "You've Been Yelped card along with the bill) because I don't want her thinking that we were just cheap jerks. We had a great afternoon, and we hoped to have a great meal, and while the food was great, the service was horrible.

I was always curious as to what Lazia was like, and got a good taste of its downtown lunch personality when I was there today. I had lunch there with my supervisors and fellow colleagues, along with many other urban core employees on lunch break, apparently.

It was packed when we went, but luckily we had reservations for our group of five. My boss said it's usually so busy during lunch hours that you have to make reservations, and that it's particularly hectic now because it's the holiday season. It appeared as if everyone downtown was vying for a table at Lazia for lunch!

The restaurant is very suave, with a large bar inside one entrance, at which you can eat as well. There is plenty of seating to accomodate the lunch crowds, with booth seating and various sized tables populating the rest of the space. In the centre of the room is a large, multi-coloured sculpture that looks like it's made of glass spikes. It's rather neat, and looks to me like glass candy shooting out of the carpeted floor. There are large photo prints of the sculpture on one wall, adding even more colour to the restaurant.

The waitresses all wear bright red tops, and the waiters wear all black, to match the suave atmosphere of the restaurant. Most of the waitresses were wearing mini-skirts too. The service was alright, I guess, given they were really busy when we went, but when my boss asked for a glass of water, it never came. He eventually gave up on waiting for it.

My Kobe meatballs with spaghetti was okay. The noodles were moist and buttery, and it came with three huge meatballs. The meatballs were slightly spicy though, good if you like just a slight kick to your tastebuds. Everyone else at the table ordered the chow mein dish, which looked really good, and the servings were huge. That seemed to be the popular dish. One colleague ordered the steak with fries, which also looked really good.

Overall, it's a pretty good venue for a corporate lunch or night out if you're downtown. If you don't like large crowds and prefer to have your waiter/waitress dote on you, don't go until the evening!

This location is actually quite good. I've been here a couple of times, once when they first opened and another time more recently.

I found my best experience was sitting in the lounge. They offer a full menu and I felt that it was a great deal more comfortable and less pretentious than the restaurant.

Of course, in a more casual atmosphere I was less inclined to order anything fancy. They have very tasty fries. The food is not necessarily memorable but it is decent.

I found that the atmosphere was about the only thing going for this place. Lazia presents a classy feelingas soon as you walk in. Unfortunately it didn't have the service to match nor the food for that matter.

The waitress took a while getting our drinks, even though the place was dead, and she wasn't very helpful when we needed suggestions. It was hard getting her attention when we needed refills or anything else. The food was presented very well, but the taste was average.

I expected to be blown away but instead I was let down.

This hip restaurant is a good place to go for a cocktail but I am not a huge fan of their food.

To be honest, I don't even know how to explain their food. Asian-fusion? Greek-fusion? Just decide and stick to one, Lazia!

I do enjoy sitting in the bar and sipping a cosmopolitan, but I have never been overly impressed with the food here. The service here is not the greatest either, it can actually be pretty slow.

I do like how busy it gets on a Friday at 4pm. I have been here in the evening and during the day, but the buzz of the Friday after work crowd is awesome.

That being said, there are probably many places downtown that I could get this vibe AND great food as well.

I travel to Edmonton regularly. I'm really not a fan of the city in the winter, but when I'm there my first and last stop every single time has been this Lazia's. I dragged my colleagues there one evening after work, and they still send me thank you emails.

Who would have thought that such a good restaurant would be in the mall? Thankfully it's not in the food court.

I've had many different items on their menu - but the item that keeps me coming back are the Cuban Lamb Chops. WOW. So delicious, I don't even break out the fork and knife and eat em Fred Flintstone style (yeah, I'm THAT guy).

Their wine selection is ideal, they always have something for everyone, and their pricing is perfect as to not upset the boss on the expense account - even with booze.

I went there to try it out. The decor was nice to look at & it seemed upscale. It was great there were a variety of different ethnic food group choices but was unsure what kind of restaurant it was.
I ordered a light meal- a mango salad with chicken breasts. I found the chicken to be rubbery and not moist to eat. I disliked the texture and it was a bit dry. The salad leaves were big in length and I had to cut most of my meal up. The dressing was ok. For the price I paid for it, I could've gotten a ten times better salad at wendy's.
I've had salad's at places like moxie's, milestone's and other places and they had superb salads- hearty enough as well to have as a complete meal.
This place was okay. My companion thought his meal was just okay as well...
From my one experience, I felt it was overpriced and that I cook better than what I got at home or at a take out food place.
    Nice decor though...

Many seem to have a love/hate relationship with Lazia. I think the hate is borne out of a misunderstanding of what fusion cuisine is actually trying to achieve. To clarify, fusion cuisine is the union of two unique culinary traditions. Here, it is a union of Asian and Italian, which are two of the most famous on the worldly stage of food. I've only had good experiences at Lazia. The Kobe meatballs are juicy and tender, and the Malay peel-n-eat bread sent me to carbophile heaven. As for the slightly bizarre glass sculpture that dominates the dining room? Really, it's not that bad.

My first experience with Lazia was at the northside location in North Edmonton Common. The food there was great and I enjoyed their service. I thought the food here would be the same, but yet the dining experience is different. They completed some renovations recently and everything seems ultra modern and classy. Perhaps in a bid to get the yuppie crowd, but I find it's a bit too modern. The tables were also placed really close together, and it felt like they were trying to pack as many people in as little space as possible.

The food also tastes different as well. Their 'not so average nasi-goring' was 'not so average', and seemed to lack the spicy punch I got from their north side location. I also found their malaysian chicken satay to good but was nothing memorable.

Their drinks selection is good, but I had a really tough time getting the waitresses attention to refill the drinks. She also had a habit of refilling my drink and placing it on another side of the table...perhaps having a bad day? I like Lazia, but my experience here was only so-so.

I've been to Lazia many times and this time was my least satisfying. I expect lunchtime to be busy downtown but this was really not comfortable or enjoyable. We were scrunched into a narrow table along the banquette wall and could hardly move. There was no where to put my briefcase or bag. To check my coat was an ordeal. And at times I thought I was at Hooters. What's with the plunging necklines on the red tees. The food was good--it always is--but I consider that an essential--after all it is a restaurant. But the atmosphere or lack of convinced me I would not soon be back for lunch. I've had brunch (fabulous) and dinner (excellent) but I'll pass on this one for lunch. There are too many choices downtown to have to put up with the noise and chaos of  this  restaurant.

I signed up to World Health and figured I would have my last somewhat unhealthy meal before I go on my health kick.  So I was told from my coworkers that this place is kind of pricey.  So I found it to be a very interesting set up inside of a mall with windows looking out to the street. It looks like a very hip place but since it's downtown Edmonton, there isn't much to see at night, unless you wanted to look at the homeless walking by panhandling from the patrons.

I ordered a mojito.  Some sort of bread in a muffin shape came out with some butter which was very delicious.  Then I ordered the steak dinner with pepper corn sauce and veggies with bacon bits and cheesy potatoes.  So  it came out almost like it was right out of the kitchen.  The hottest plate I have ever had and to me that's the way I like it.  The steak was medium rare as I like and the cheesy potatoes were pretty tasty.  The veggies I wasn`t too find of because it seemed like there was a lot of oil or maybe it was bacon fat.  Who knows but that I didn`t like.

Later in the evening I met my friend for a drink, espresso and I got dessert.  That chocolate cake was to die for.

Would I go back?  Probably but not anytime soon.

Menu has some questionable choices.  Chef clearly failed to understand the basics of a Caprese salad (an extremely simple dish).  Decor is sort of cool; location, while central, is lame (in a mall).  Better times had in the lounge eating hot wings than in the restaurant suffering through a confused menu.  This place may appeal more to a wine snob, which I am not.

Every time I was at City Centre and walked by Lazia Restaurant, I wanted to come in. The place looked so beautiful and looked promising in providing an awesome dining experience. Recently, I got a chance to visit this restaurant, and I am not disappointed. One of my friends had a going away party, and being overwhelmed by fear and sadness, she couldn't make up her mind which restaurant to say goodbye to all her friends at. Since we were downtown, we took the matter into our own hands, and decided to go with Lazia. It was Sunday afternoon and the place was quite busy, and yet surprisingly our party of eight was accommodated without any problems. And so alcohol and food consumption has begun! Since none of us have been to Lazia before, our server made recommendations which we gladly followed. I ordered deep fried calamari with sweet chili mayo and butternut squash ravioli. One of the guys in our group felt brave enough to order a $30 rack of lamb and ended up taking a doggy bag. The portions were big which considering the price of the food ought to be expected. The food was fresh and presented beautifully. At some point it felt like we were present at Iron Chef competition. Just for that Lazia deserves five stars.
After paying an obscene tab, we left the restaurant full and happy. If only our friend wasn't leaving!

Pad Thai started out nice with some large and fresh shrimp, but a few bites in and the dish was FAR TOO spicy.  Either a mistake or the chef was using spice to cover an otherwise bland and uninspired dish.  Unfortunate because the decor showed well, to bad the attention didn't carry to the menu.
