This might just be Edmonton's ultimate first date restaurant. It's got that classy, trendy feel without being too upscale - hip but affordable for a dude in his mid-twenties with student loans trying to impress another girls in her mid-twenties with student loans. If you thought the lucky lady would like Moxie's or Earl's, take her to the local version with more flair - Lazia!
The more I think about it, the more I like Lazia. The cool staircase, the futuristic catwalk, the cozy booths on the main level. Music is loud but not too loud, and I've always found service to be pretty attentive.
To be honest, I haven't been here on a date in a long time, but I do come to the lounge from time to time with my girlfriends. Last time I stopped by was for a mini-going away party for a great friend of mine. We ordered a few dips and other appie plates. It was a Tuesday night, so it wasn't too busy. Food came quickly and was nice and hot - plus very tasty! I have a feeling the dips weren't on the healthy side, but live a little, eh? :-)
If you go to Lazia for a meal, definitely order the ginger beef. Calgary might have invented, but the chefs at Lazia have perfected it!Listed in: Four-Stars, Date Night, Girl's Day Out, Best Happy Hour, Adults Only

Gotta go with the 2 stars...Lazia has done better.
We like this place to get away from the drab dining places that seem to pride themselves on mediocre, boring food. Lazia does a good job on variety and interesting menu dishes. Most are an Asian fusion, but I find some to be fairly contemporary.
There was a wait to get in, of course, it's Saturday night. I'd say the wait was 25 minutes, completely acceptable.
Before too long we had water and our alcoholic beverage of choice and were placing our meal orders. We tried the Vietnamese Spring Rolls for an appie which were tasty. They came with a dipping sauce that I would describe as a mash up of Thousand Island dressing & mayo. We also shared a side caesar. Lettuce had some brown spots, but crunchy and there were these weird brownish, green things that I had no clue what they were, nor couid I figure out the taste. If someone knows what they use...please let me know. I like to know what I'm eating.
When we ordered, the server warned us that my dish would be at least 30 minutes. I ordered the Cuban Rack of Lamb. I've had it there before, it's absolutely delicious. The challenges we had were making sure we were hydrated as we waited much more than 30 minutes for the mains. It was closer to an hour. The Mr. sat for quite some time, multiple times, without water. Not once did anyone ask/offer to get us another cocktail.
Food was good, service was slow. I don't think a water glass should be empty at a restaurant, and I think they'd do what they could to keep a $9 cocktail glass full. -

Lazia, AHHH nice place, its comfortable, decor is really nice. I love the booths, but hate that there is no privacy. If you come here when its busy during the dinner hour, Make sure you have a private booth, which is nearly impossible, or just talk quietly. For me that's kinda hard to do... When I came here last night I noticed that the booth's are so squashed together, I like my privacy. and don't like people eavesdropping in my conversation.. I also like my personal space. Any way enough of that, lets get down to the review... Our waiter, was fantastic, and cute...:=)". Drinks were really good, and the food was good too, but not great, I've been here before and remember the portions were larger. I always order the Cantonese Chow mien, I used to get a huge bowl, so much of it , that I had enough to take home for another meal the next day. Not this time.. I easily finished and even had room for another drink or dessert? ( i chose the drink) Maybe that's there plan or maybe my stomach's shrinking, I'll be back, but due to the lack of privacy in the restaurant, I'll try the lounge next time..

The food was good, the atmosphere was comfortable. Basically its not a place that I will seek out, but I would be willing to go back every once in a while to try something new on the menu or when the usual Moxies/Earls/Joey's has gotten stale.
I was very impressed with the variety that they had on the menu. Everything from a Kobe beef burger & Fish and chips to complex fusion dishes.
If you haven't been there I do recommend going and giving the place a try. -

I always find the food decent here until last week when my husband and I went there for dinner. Not only was the waitress very rude, but the ravioli my husband and our friend ordered tasted spoiled or like it has gone bad. It has some tomato sauce in it. We did tell the waitress it tasted weird but she made a nasty remark saying it's not like it's some canned food.
My husband went home and had stomach ache and mild diarrhea. We called back the restaurant to complain. The manager said he will go in the kitchen to check and call us back. He never did. We called back after three hours and he just said there's nothing wrong and never even bothered to apologize. My husband has not eaten the whole day except for cereal in the morning. We were there at 3:30pm for early dinner/late lunch. Suffice to say, we'll never go back there again. -

I ended up going here for a New Year's Eve dinner with a bunch of friends. I was pretty excited about going here, because it looked like a real trendy and popular place, but I was gravely disappointed.
First, I was annoyed that we had a set New Year's menu. There were only a few items to choose from, and if we didn't like the menu, we weren't allowed to order anything else. It was a three-course meal that cost $50. If you wanted to opt out on the salad or dessert, the price was still $50, which I thought was kind of unfair. We were basically stuck with this menu.
Well, that turned out to be quite the nightmare, because there were several people at our table who are vegetarians. I'm not a veggie, but I rarely eat beef, and I don't like salmon or rack of lamb. I really couldn't believe there was no chicken option.
Anyways, after badgering the waitress, finally she said that the chef could make us non-meat-eaters a tofu stir fry. I thought that sounded good, so I went for it.
The salad came first though, and it was really yummy. I remember the slice of mozzarella and tomato being extremely delicious. So it all started out okay, but then the stir-fry dish arrived. What a complete disappointment. It was the most basic stir-fry I've ever had, and the tofu was deep fried way too much, so it was dried out. The sauce tasted like something cheap I'd buy at the store. It was a three-course meal, but $50 was way too much money to pay for a bowl of rice, a salad, and a dessert.
The dessert, I must say, was good though. My plate came with four different fruity dessert items, and it was well presented. The lime ice cream was to die for.
Even though the salad and dessert were good, I wouldn't go back here. If they can't get stir fry right, then it's not a worthwhile restaurant in my book. -

This is such a funky restaurant! I love, love, love the decor and am happy it's not too far from my place because it's totally at the opposite end of my personal taste. OK, enough about the decor, let's talk about the food.
Lazia is a fusion restaurant which means it offers a little of every style of cuisine on their menu - Asian, Pasta, Western, Thai, and the likes. One my favourite dishes is the ginger beef. It's has just the right amount of crispiness, spice and gooeyness that tings my taste buds (literally). The also have a great selection of appetizers and sometimes I'll have an appetizer or two as my meal (yes, they're that large). Of course to go with great food is their great bar. You name it they got it, and they have a good selection of wines.
Lazia is busy regardless of the time day. If you go in the evening go early as they fill up quickly and there is often a line up to get in. However, the food is worth it. They also have a patio that faces West so in the warmer months you'll have a fabulous time with eats, drinks, and good company. -

Great food. Even better decorating (very modern). Reasonable price. The chicken burger and the butter chicken are my favorites when I go.

My opinion about Lazia has changed since reviewing it almost two years ago. It's still a three-star, but my first impressions were not my lasting impressions.
This north-end restaurant is situated in a busy hub off St. Albert Trail and shares mega-mall space with Cineplex Odeon, Moxie's, Tony Roma's, Subway, Booster Juice and over a dozen other businesses.
I moved to the north end last year, and although I wasn't overly thrilled with Lazia the first time I visited, my sweetie and I have returned many times when date night keeps us in our neck of the woods.
I have come to feel quite cozy and at home in this restaurant-cum-nightclub, with its plush, oval booths, soothing mahogany accents, crimson walls, warm, mindfully placed pot-lighting and, last but not least, its raucous music and conversation that's so steady on a Saturday night that it fades into ambient white noise as we become part of the vibe.
You MUST start with "the only way to gyoza" - savoury pork dumplings with a ponzu dipping sauce. I'm not exactly sure what ponzu is, but I know it contains soy sauce and I know it is absolutely addictive!
For drinks, I can go for a cold Keith's, a Bellini, a glass of vino or a rye & diet, depending on my mood. After you've been to gyoza, you can't go wrong with the Pad Thai, although it's a bit overpriced for a plate of pasta, at $15.95 - but well worth it.
This place gets a lot of weekend pre-movie traffic - so expect a small line if you want to be seated in the restaurant. We always sit in the lounge as we're more appy and cocktail people than fine diners. On the casual side, you can walk right in and seat your selves. When it's busy, you may wait a couple of minutes for a waitress to notice you, but otherwise service is quite prompt.
I'm glad I gave you another try, Lazia. While you are not gourmet, you do not disappoint.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have gone to this specific location of Lazia a few times (there is another location in downtown Edmonton but this location is newer) and realized that this is more of a place to go for after dinner drinks or dessert.
I have had dinner here and although the decor is really nice (it reminds me of a New York lounge), the fusion Asian-Western food dishes are over-priced for what you get. The presentation of the desserts are well-done and is under $10 for a piece of cheesecake.
All in all, I would go for the atmosphere consisting of dim lighting and candles and dessert but the main course can be better. -

Took our daughter there for dinner tonite, what a mistake. They gave us another tables dinner, then took it back and then served us ours cold. They forgot the cutlery Z( even though we aksed for it,), took 20 minutes to get our drinks, my daughter orer staek and lobster - they forgot the lobster and finally brought it whe everyone else was finished - without the butter of course. We talked to the manager whose attitude was that it was done and what did we expect him to do about it We then waited 15 minutes for the bill and finally got up and walked t the front desk and asked for it. We got got, full pop wiwth a 15% gratutity already added. Never again!
