Review from Joyce Y.
We came here for dinner before the Game 4 playoff game between the Clippers and the Spurs.
Although this place is pricey, and portions are small, I really enjoyed my prime rib. I got the prime rib salad, for $14.99. Hubby got the BBQ sandwich, which only comes with some side potato chips and a pickle. My BIL got the prime rib sandwich, also $14.99, but only comes with potato chips. The sandwich portion is definitely small, but my BIL loved the sandwich.
My prime rib was delicious! Not too salty, but salty enough. The meat was tender and juicy and cooked medium (which is what I prefer). Salad was pretty big, too!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Some friends suggested this place right before a movie last friday night. we ordered take out and then had it at the theater down the street.
Food was warm, taste was great, and the price is really reasonable.
Yum.
Enjoy. -

If you want Lawry's delicious prime rib without the pretense of getting dressed up and going to Beverly Hills; make your way to Lawry's Carvery!
I went at a pretty mellow time; not a lot of Downtown traffic or LA Live parking to contend with. I ordered one of their platter meals which came with an 8oz. prime rib and comes with two sides; I ordered macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. It's all very laid back: you order, find a seat, get your own drink, and they bring out the food for you. Though the service was reminiscent of a fast food restaurant I'd like to make a special mention to the server I had; Jeffery, Geoffrey (not really sure which spelling). He went above and beyond in my opinion; got my drink and handled the refills and cut up my prime rib for me. And after the meal he hooked it up with a parking validation which he says they don't do normally.
I'll be sure to make it down to the Lawry's Carvery again and look for my man Jeff (Geoff). =) -

A great lunch spot.
I ordered the Prime Rib Bleu and a side of mac and cheese. The Prime Rib Bleu was soooo good! The mac and cheese was just ok.
I also like the layout of this place. You order when you walk in, find your own table, and food is served to you. It's pretty quick, but the quality of is impressive for the price. It was a better value than the Farm across the way. -

I would have given it 4 stars but the price does not justify the meal. When they first opened the quality was superb. As time has passed (or maybe it was coincidence the last 4 times I went), the quality and cut of meat has since gone down. Medium requests have turned into dry and welldone.

This is my go to place before a game if Yardhouse is already crowded. Lawry's food without Lawry's pricing. :)
Chili with prime rib... so goood... The prime rib and beef dip sandwich are so yummy and are available in a combo form with either soup or salad.
The food is inexpensive and delicious. The service is quick, which comes in handy if you are going to an event at LA Live or Staples Center. -
Review from Eunice J.
I like the concept. A cheaper, quicker, more casual way to eat Lawry's amazing prime rib without the hoity-toity-ness of the Beverly Hills location. But I think the execution needs work. Maybe it's because I've only been here before Lakers or Clippers games when everyone is in a frenzy to grab a bite and drink before the game, but the restaurant seems quite disorganized and messy. You order your food and pay first, then look for your own table, cafeteria style. The tables are usually still uncleared from the previous patrons and the floor looks like it needs a good vacuuming. It takes forever to get extra stuff like utensils or napkins. The food is still pricey- it is, after all prime rib, but the portions are quite small for how much you pay. Admittedly, the prime rib is good, but I guess I just expected more from a restaurant bearing the Lawry's name.

San Francisco, CA
For the area, it's reasonably priced, quick and delicious. There's enough variety that you will be able to find something to eat.
Mac n' cheese. Yum. Anything with turkey or beef whether it's a sandwich or a salad, you cannot go wrong. Just make sure you don't hit the lunch crowd since the whole area can have a tendency to have lines/waits. Even when it's kinda crowded you never feel you have to talk over the crowd. -

Pretty dam cheap for Lawry style food. I got the peppercorn sandwich. Yum. The meat was not dry and the sauce was really good. Would definitely go back.
Parking can be a pain since it is in LA live/Nokia center. There may be a line outside at times, but it is just that they take a while to order. There are usually seats inside. Very nice place / sports bar area since they have tv showing some games. Definitely give this place a go -

YUM! Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for an early light dinner.
I ordered a half sandwich and salad combo and it was the perfect portion! The meat was tender and the salad was perfectly dressed.
I'm surprised it took me so long to try it. If I had a bigger appetite I would have gone for the creamed corn!! YUM -

Pros:
1. Super fast service.
2. Really tasty meats, soft, juice, & Delicious.
3. Great selection of sandwiches & meats.
4. There is indoor and outdoor seating.
5. There are televisions for when in need to watch sports.
Cons
1. No alcohol
2. No fries
You walk in order & pay, you then pick your seat & the food is brought over to your table. I'd call this the perfect lunch spot b/c you can toot it & boot it yet walk away feeling satisfied. -

The first Lawry's I went was the Five Crowns in Newport Beach. Then the main restaurant in Chicago. If you don't want convention center concession food then this is the cloasest place to go for a nice sandwich.
The prime rib sandwich is very nice and not too huge. I could use a few more of the very nice potato chips. -

This place is wonderful well at least the sandwiches are, the word I think of is succulent , they just need better side dishes to go with it. or just give me 2 sandwiches and a beverage and I am cool, the sandwiches are even good the next day after refrigeration .

Came by after class w/ a few friends......you know how it is out here when the Kings are playing - traffic and full LA Live parking lots.
I got the Platter Meal w/ the 8 oz Roasted Prime Rib, Carvery Coleslaw, and Baked Macaroni and Cheese............and another side of the Horseradish Mashed Potatoes.

http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I can't remember when the last time I had prime rib was.....maybe because my blackout drinking has damaged my memory, or maybe because I haven't had any that was worth remembering...........This will easily be some of the best Prime Rib you'll ever eat!
The Coleslaw didn't really do it for me. It didn't have as much sauce as the slaw I'm used to, and it had peanuts....pretty forgettable.
Mashed Potatoes were really good....not too much horseradish, but enough for you to know it's there if you pay attention.
Saved it for last because I was trying to figure out how to explain the Mac n Cheese...... holy s***, are you effing kidding me bro?!!!! For the last 3 weeks, I've been having mac n cheese cravings, but all I've had to kill the craving was the mac n cheese on campus. I don't know if the bar was set low b/c of that or if this mac n cheese is just that good......you try it out n let me know. -

I think Lawry's Carvery is the perfect place to go to when you want something hearty, quick, and reasonably priced. I see reviewers commenting on the prices, but you are getting prime rib after all! I'm a fan of the location in Costa Mesa, so was very happy to see they had one here at LA Live. I had the french dip sandwich w/ au jus to go as I waited in line to see Coldplay. They take your order and quickly make your sandwich. It was every bit of delicious as I had expected. I think this sandwich is better than Philippe's. Sure it costs more, but it's Lawry's, and it's near Staples. I'm glad there is a decent and quick take-out place for when you don't want to sit down and drop and arm and a leg!
Listed in: Meat in the middle.

I like the simplicity and efficiency of this place. We had our order placed, drinks in hand, and were seated in less than five minutes. Our food was out in less than five minutes from when we sat down.
I ordered the brisket platter. The meat was surprisingly tasty. Not the level of a barbecue shop, but good for a quick meal. The sauce was tangy. I chose the cream corn for my side. It was great. It was a good portion with nice flavor. The slaw was not my style, I prefer a finer cut, but the flavor was good.
This is a good place for a quick meal at a moderate price. A nice alternative to the other options at LA Live. -

Food is very good. Have had the prime rib original sandwich and the prime rib bleu. The meat is cooked well sauce is very good, I liked it a lot. Sides look great I will have to try them next time. Took 1.5 stars off due to portion size (small) and price (overpriced).
Very efficient and solid overall. -
Review from Ken C.
Went to see a Clippers' game today and we had our pre-game meal at Lawry's Carvery around 530. It was the perfect choice and we arrived at the perfect time.
I ordered a Prime Rib Sandwich ($15.99), a side order of Creamed Corn ($2.99) and Creme Brulee ($3.99). I can't tell you that I'm a fan of this place, but I enjoyed my meal and I'm glad I tried it once. I had mixed feelings about this place...I'll list them below in bullet points:
1. The price point was expensive. Spent around $25 for my meal. (Con)
2. Any place in/around Staples Center will run you $25+, so that's not unusual (Pro)
3. I ordered my prime rib medium rare and it was perfectly cooked (Pro)
4. Their au jus and horseradish sauces were bland, which made the sandwich sub-par. Would have liked the horseradish to have more spice. Would have liked the au jus to have better meat flavor.. I'd recommend that you go for their "Prime Rib meals" rather than their sandwiches (Con)
5. We were served very quickly, which was perfect. (Pro) Note: If you're coming for a sporting event, I recommend coming before 6pm. The line was pretty long an hour prior to the event.
6. I love that you can get all of the side dishes that they serve at Lawry's restaurants. I ordered their popular creamed corn here. (Pro)
7. I was able to order creme brulee for dessert for $3.99 (Pro).
8. LA Live Parking is very expensive (it ran us $25 to park from 5:30-10:30) and this place doesn't validate. Seek out a lot away from LA Live and walk over. (Con)
Overall: I have no regrets in choosing this place. Because the food is good and the service is quick, it's a perfectly valid option for pre-game eats. As illustrated above, I believe that there are a lot of good reasons to come here, but the Cons will keep me from making this my go-to spot at LA Live. I like Rosa Mexicana's happy hour and I'm looking to try Trader Vic's next time. Also keep in mind that Roy's Hawaiian and Morton's are just down the street! -

Review from Julie L.
For all the business they get before any given game or concert, I thought they would have more than a 3.5 rating. But, I sort of agree with it. Quantity does not equal quality.
In keeping with the "quantity does not equal quality"...my half sandwich and salad was $10.99 but I was still hungry after. My mistake for not seeing that getting the prime rib (suggested by the waiter) was a extra upcharge; $2-3, I forget. My sweets says his roast beef dip ($9.50) was great and he would be back.
Looks like we're going to have to stop at Philippe's on the way...then we'll both be happy! (If you're in the mood for a good french dip, they're about 10 mins away and worth it!) -

The deliciousness of Lawry's without the full price of the main Lawry's location. Same quality prime rib and sides, but more of a quick service experience as opposed to the full evening sit down experience with the carver/rib cart/etc. Great place to go before or after going to an event at the Staples center. My fave is the prime rib sandwich with a side of creamed corn.

We went there for lunch today. I liked the way it was set up. We ordered, paid, got our drinks and sat down. No waiting. We had out meal within in 5 minutes. I had the Prime Rib sandwich which was cooked perfectly to my order. I am huge fan of Lawry's Prime Rib. This is like a fast food take on the other restaurants. I like this very much. I don't get down to downtown LA much. But when i do, I'll go back.

Ever been to Boston Market? This place makes me miss that place. Lawry's Carvery's only asset is the Lawry name...most of their food sucks. The sandwiches are sooo bland, the sides are usually disheveled in taste and appearance and service ranges from sh*tty to so-so.
The ONLY thing I get there is the prime rib blue sandwich (as I see a lot of other Yelpers have said). Ask for some cheese/sauce/whatever though because it's a bit dry.
If you're looking for real meat, there's a Morton's a few blocks down. Looking for sandwiches? Go to Mendocino's. If you need a bite fast that's close by, go to ESPN Zone (I know, but you'll get slightly better tasting food at a lower price). -
Review from Zach P.
We were in the area looking for a place to have dinner before the Duran Duran concert at the Nokia Theatre and we came across Lawry's Carvery. I have never been to a Lawry's, but I have always heard good things about it, plus I have several of their seasonings in my pantry, so I figured you couldn't go wrong here.
When you arrive you order at the cashier and then they bring the food to your table. It's mostly sandwiches, but they also have dinner plates and salads. They also have beer and wine, at a premium. Beer was about $5 and wine was $9, which was cheaper at the concert venue.
The food was very mediocre. We ordered the beef brisket which was nothing special. The cole slaw was as bland as it gets. The macaroni and cheese also had no flavor. The horseradish mashed potatoes were the highlight, but they were also average. The portions weren't that big.
And the price tag for all this came to a whopping $45 and this is without table service. It's a lot of money for something that was average at best. You can go to ESPN Zone nearby and get better food for cheaper. -

***Lawry's Carvery is the only order-at-the-counter restaurant in LA Live, which makes it very valuable; Lawry's Carvery is a good spot to visit if you need something quick and not too expensive before a game at Staples Center or a movie at Regal***
LA Live is filled with sit-down chain restaurants. The problem is that they take time. Second, they can get expensive especially when you factor in tip. Third, the restaurants here are ones you can find easily elsewhere.
Because of that, I find LA Live's Lawry's Carvery to have real value even though the food is nothing special. The place is quick (service is order-at-the-counter). And the prices are not too bad (they can get a little pricey if you opt for one of their prime rib choices). The quick service and not too expensive prices make Lawry's Carvery a good option when you need to get something quick before a game at Staples or a movie at the Regal theater (two places where you are typically overpaying for mediocre food--though I think Staples food is not that bad when you compare it to other stadiums/arenas).
I've had the prime rib sandwich and it was tasty and moist. The roast beef sandwich here is more on the drier side. It can be decent here if you get one where the meat is cooked an appropriate medium rare. I've also had the turkey sandwich with lettuce and cranberry pear relish. This sandwich actually feels a little more filling than the prime rib sandwich and it is okay and tasty enough.
The sandwiches come with chips and they are crispy though they seem to be salty too often.
As mentioned, service is quick and they do have a good amount of seating; however, on a recent visit when we went before a basketball game, we were very fortunate to get one of the last open tables.
I wish there were more order-at-the-counter options at LA Live. Until that happens (if it ever does), Lawry's Carvery is a good place to visit if you are hungry but don't want to spend too much.
Parking at the LA Live structure is expensive (parking is also expensive at the nearby lots--especially when an event is happening). The high price of parking here makes Lawry's Carvery only worth trying if you are already going to be at LA Live for a sporting event, show or a movie.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The Lawry's Carvery is pretty good, nothing special in my books, while it's more of a fat food, grab and go option, you do get the Lawry's name with it.
Located conveniently by Staples Center, if you're early for a game you can stop by here to get your meat fix! The price for what you get isn't too bad because you're getting Lawry's meat, but it's not a McDonalds by any means.
If you're in the area, I would recommend this Lawry's Carvery before you hit Staples or the Nokia Center. -
Review from ROB C.
San Marino, CA
Lawry's meats for under $20?!?! Directly next to the Staples Center for the pre-game dinner?? I was almost shocked that such a prime spot with a respectable brand could be such an affordable luxury, especially in the LA Live district. But yes, it is indeed a reality :)
While I'm sure the Carvery is a few steps (or floors) below the actual Lawrys (which I've never been to), this version of Lawry's seems to be a great spot to hit for a quick bite or even just a nice, casual place to eat. The options offered are not very complex or numerous, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing for most. Sandwiches are reasonably priced around $10 and come with kettle chips & your choice of meat. There are at least 10 different sandwiches to choose from.
During my eating experience, I chose the BBQ Beef Brisket meal with came with one side and coleslaw. The Lawrys Mac-n-Cheese side order was penne paste baked with ample amounts of RICH cheese. Though a bit dry for most, my standards for mac n cheese are low since my standard is based upon the Mac N Cheese @ Sizzler (which I recall to be quite good when I was 10 years old). The BBQ brisket came as 5 medium-thick sliced pieces with sweet n slightly tangy bbq sauce drizzled around the edges. Make sure you try to mix it around otherwise your end bites will be mostly sauce-free. The meat itself was a bit dry (but it's brisket) but extremely tender, NOT-chewy and very easy to eat. I give it an 7.5/10 for what I paid and for the cut of meat. $13.99 well spent
My friend ordered the Lawrys Roast Beef, served medium. It resembled most beef options @ decent buffets, but had minimal fat & was cooked to near perfection. But I only had a small morsel of this meat, so there's a chance that in comparison to the BBQ brisket, the roast beef was just better. If you get a chance to choose the Creamed Corn side dish, I would only recommend it if you really like corn that feels like it's from the can (which I do), as I didn't feel it was like a typical creamed corn dish. Not bad, just average. Mac N Cheese defeats Creamed Corn in this matchup.
Once you finish dining, feel free to leave your trash and leftovers on your table as there will be a server/busboy who cleans your place up.
Ample seating outdoors (good if you like feeling semi-posh and eating @ LA Live) or sit indoors for an intimate, dimly-lit room with LCD tvs 240 degrees around you playing some sort of sports event. Not a recommended place to impress a date, but a good place to eat right before the game. What would be impressive would be courtside tickets to the Lakers or even now the Clips.
Though if you could afford those tix, you would be @ the real Lawrys then helicopter to Staples like Kobe :) -

Yikes Yelpers $15 for a sandwich, and there's not even a celebrity aura attached to it!!!!
I'd be happy to pay $8 for the prime rib sandwich, that's about it. I do agree with the others that this place is good in that it's the only counter service available in LA Live...perfect if you're staying at the Ritz, JW Marriott or the awful Luxe City Center hotel (which lacks room service).
Bread pudding was awesome.
Coke only comes in one size. -

This is the PERFECT place to go in downtown Los Angeles if you're craving sandwiches!
It's true that the portions are a little small for the value, but we're so used to oversized portions that I don't think that means much. The quality of the meat is amazing (they cut it right in the restaurant), the sandwiches are fresh tasting and not coated in loads of overly sweetened sauces, and I really enjoy the home made chips and dips.
It's also quick, a real plus in the Nokia center area, AND probably your cheapest option.

Just thinking about the BBQ beef brisket is making my mouth water...right now. Yes, I am practically drooling all over my laptop.
Tender, flavorful, perfectly cooked meat topped with smoky barbecue sauce. That roll was nice and soft; had the right ratio of meat to bun. The mac and cheese, and coleslaw went perfectly; harmonized like a beautiful ballad. *drool*
The other stuff I've nibbled on was pretty good too, but the brisket's the best! I can only comment on the food since we had gotten it as takeout, that they packaged up quite nicely, btw. No usage of Styrofoam or cheap white plastic utensils, either.
What's funny is that I'm not a fan of Lawyr's sit down fancy prime rib restaurants. But the Carvery is totally different yet the quality is totally on point.
And yeeeesssh, I'm still drooling.Listed in: This is L.A!!

Review from Nikki M.
This is the only some-what affordable place to eat at in LA Live. Well, expect for the Yardhouse probably, but I only come up to this area when there is a Laker game. This basically means that there is no chance of getting a table at the Yardhouse here.
Back to Lawry's. I have a slight bit of attachment here because it the place where I ordered my first legal beer a few days after my 21st birthday. This stupid fact set aside, the food at Lawry's is pretty good. I like the turkey sandwich here. The meat tastes fresh and the bread is quite good. Many people have commented on the amazing service here. I have found it to be mediocre...not great, but not poor. Maybe it's because I'm always up here when they are busy for the laker game.
Although only a 3-stat in my book, Lawry's is your best bet for an affordable (for LA Live) and reliable meal at this spot.
If you're coming here for an event, leave yourself time because the line gets pretty long! -
Review from O G.

Overall Rating: 3.5 Stars
I find this place to be a little pricey for lunch. I mean it is prime rib but still!!! I guess I just eat too much and the portions are not big enough for me.
Today I had the prime rib carver salad with horseradish dressing on the side. The prime rib was cooked a perfect medium. It was so tender, juicy and tasty. The slice was pretty thin and small. I wished it was bigger. As for the dressing, there isn't really much of a kick to it as it is very mild but it is good and you do taste the horseradish. The dressing is thick and creamy. As for the salad, there isn't really much greens! You would think that for $13.99 that you would get a plate full of greens but you don't!
I can't really rate this any higher. For $5 (I think) more, I can go to Morton's and indulge in my warm steak salad. -

An awesome place to grab a sandwich when you want a little something more premium than a $5 footlong. I usually get the Prime Rip Blue sandwich. It is delicious.
The Carvery is also great for take-out. I always put in my order and walk over and by the time I get there my food is already ready. Perfect. -

Lawry's Carvery
"A cut above!!!" My ass...
Maybe a cut below Denny's,
Man, what a horrible meal we had and the worst thing was the price....
Ok, we went to the Laker game and arrived early to LA LIVE so we could have some drinks and dinner before the game. We went to my usual place for happy hour drinks and right before the game we wanted to eat a good meal.
Lilo was craving a bloody steak.
We decided to go to one of the restaurants there but I suggested we should try Lawry's Carvery.. I figured we couldn't go wrong with LAWRY'S...
We arrived at the front door and I noticed the place was like a Denny's or cafeteria. I was changing my mind about the place, but time was of the essence. The game was starting soon, so asked the person at the register. "Do you have Prime Rib Steaks? And if so, ARE THEY THE SAME QUALITY AS THE RESTAURANT?"
The young guy at the register said, "of course they are". "Its the same thing as the restaurant, except for the service". I looked at the price of the steak; 27 or 29$$ so I figured it should be ok.
WRONG!!!
I should have noticed a lot of LA LIVE employees eating sandwiches in a hurry.
Before we paid, I asked if they had bloody rare prime rib, I was told yes...
That's cause you pay first... I now know why..
We sat and were quickly brought our "steaks".
My steak was brown, no red and it looked dry. Lilo's was medium well so she was ok with it. It looked processed and dry.. Just not right!
It looked like something you would get at Dennys if you ordered steak and eggs... The taste was not horrible but it was far from good. Denny's steak woulda been better and cheaper.
I quickly returned my steak and said, "If you don't have Rare like you said, I don't want anything.. They took a moment and brought me what looked like the same steak, but this time they poured juice/blood all over it, giving the impression of a rarer slice.
It was late and I was hungry so I ate some of it...
BUT GET THIS!!!!
Suddenly, I see lilo make the "FACE OF TERROR"!!!
I quickly asked her "what's wrong? Are you ok?"
She replied, "Look in my Corn!!"
SHIIIT!!! GUESS WHAT WAS IN HER CORN?????
A HAIR!! .... But wait!... Not just any hair. Not an eyelash, not a nose hair, not even hair from someones head!!!
It was a PUBIC hair !!
Well, that's what it looked like. It was short, thick very curly...
I thought... naaa! This is impossible! It has to be something else.
I examined the corn with hair very closely and I noticed the FOLLICLE, yes! A follicle.
So it was a hair.!!!
I called the guy over and really let him have it. I asked him to look at it and tell me it was not a hair as I pointed out the follicle. He examined it also and replied, "It is a hair!. Theres nothing else that it could be."
He then offered to bring us another helping of corn or a desert or another side...
I told him, "are you fkn kidding?"
We got our shit and left!
This awesome experience cost us around $70$$ and lilo threw up her food after we left from eating pubic hair corn...
Were gonna write corporate about this.
It's too bad that the Lawry's name is on this place. It's clear that the employees are young and underpaid which results in employees that don't give a shit about their job.....
DON'T EAT HERE!!!

I was working on a lonely Friday nite, decided to buy myself a delicious quality dinner instead of fast food.
I ordered a 12 oz prime ribs platter with Mac n cheese & green salad, with specificity mentioned I want it RARE...
When I got the prime ribs, it is delicious but there's about 4 oz of fat in the steak... Hmm... Not too happy by paying extra for the fat.... The prime rib itself is more like medium well instead of rare I ordered. But it's still tender ...
The Mac n cheese didn't grill enough it's pretty much like a microwave version..
The green salad is warm btw...
Will I go back? Maybe, but definitely not getting this $30 prime rib platter ... Prolly just go with the sandwich ...
Gosh... I'm so hungry it's a late dinner so I still give them a 3 stars... I am such a nice lady!!! Haha
