How can a bar of soap be so luxurious? So creamy, so fragrant...so very habit-forming. I was on a mission; I had heard that the Lavan cream soap was divine.

So in I go, and discover this intriguing stone fountain - where you may wash your hands with the miraculous salt scrub - which even tamed a stray cuticle - and then lavish on the body butter, for the most amazingly smooth hands ever.

This body butter is so sinfully rich that a dab the size of a green pea was more than sufficient for my rough hands.

But back to the soap. The vanilla came home with me and will not be shared. The $7 price tag might seem steep until you lather up with this creamy bar and feel your skin softening immediately. Of course, since it is a cream bar, it will not live in the shower, but will rest upon it's own little perch where it will dry until I smooth myself again.

Lavan also stocks fragrant little loofah slices filled with soap, which will be perfect for hostess gifts.

A return visit is mandatory so I can sample the eye cream and treat myself to a mani.

Lavan products are all natural and the staff are friendly and willing to share their knowledge. Lovely, lovely product.

Located on Granville just north of the Orpheum Theatre and across from Fluevog.

The first time I went to Lavan I had a group buying voucher and didn't think it was that memorable. I was downtown recently and went in where I was welcomed by a cheery saleswoman who invited me to scrub my hands with some Lavan scrub that I picked out of several choices of scents, then put on some rich hand cream. My hands did feel softer and smoother after that. If I had the money then I would consider buying both products.

The products are ok, very very pricey, almost like Holt Renfrew prices, out of my budget so I probably won't shop there unless I miraculously get a well-paying job or win the lotto. I do think the sales people are some of the friendliest I've come across in the downtown core, and the shop is neat.

I've stumbled upon this place a few times on the way to and from work, however, never really gave it a second thought to buy anything other than window shop. Their stuff smells good, it stays on your skin forever, however, it is very very expensive. As for the beauty products, I tend to be skeptical of what I don't know and stick with certain brands 'cause $90 for a small 15 ml jar of eye cream...it's hard to convince me that this is better than the Lancome eye cream that I've been using for years. Mud Masks and butter for around $70? Still not convinced, however, what they do have is a range of soaps. I am addicted and I love soaps. I love the smell of roses and other than the rose soap and Crabtree and Evelyn which is full of fillers, this is made with real butter and is a grade higher than what you would get at the mall. It is $7 per bar which to me is reasonable as that is the average price you would get a bar of that weight at Lush. I had a social shopper coupon, therefore, I got $24 worth of stuff for $12. I did go a little over 'cause it is hard not to with so many awesome soaps. They had a special of buy 4 soaps and get the 5th free which brought down the initial cost down more. The lady behind the til, whatever her name was, was friendly which was refreshing. The shop is nice and I have often been intimidated 'cause it looks to classy and always feared snobby staff to match. She was so sweet that she made an extra effort to nicely and professionally package my soaps with paper and a ribbon. Over all good experience for a one off.
