Review from Steve M.
San Francisco, CA
Las Hadas seems a bit conflicted as to whether it's a trendy club or a great Mexican food restaurant. Honestly it's a bit of both but that may be the problem filling this places seats. It could probably use some advice from the Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible".
We had 7:30pm reservations and at that time, the restaurant seats were half empty. Keep in mind, this is a Saturday night and if you can't fill a restaurant at that hour then your days may be numbered. This is too bad because the service was extremely prompt, the staff was very nice, and the food was excellent.
I ordered the Royal Reef Ribeye, $23, while my wife opted for the Enchilada Del Mar, $14 (it's a big enchilada). Both were prepared to perfection.
Drinks were very reasonable and chock full of tequila so be careful as you might end up in a gutter. Of course on a Saturday night in the Gaslamp, you might have a lot of company. Two Las Hadas Margaritas and I was feeling just fine.
Give this place a try - for the food, not the club! -
Review from Glenn C.
BLUF: Great food. Service is a little so so but quick when they are around. A little rude with placing reserved signs on table while we were still eating.
So the warden wanted to go see a show and I was not going to be subject to any such culture without a belly full of something delicious from the myriad of eateries in SD. We were also going to be on a double date...libations were in order.
The ambiance is great. They have the requisite TV's in key locations, music, bar and booths. Patio seating is also available. I didn't hit the restroom so I have no opinion on those. Overall, a very nicely done restaurant, professional looking staff and a trendy atmosphere.
The food was great. we had several orders of the fried calamari as well as the guacamole. No disappointments there. We decided to keep with the appetizer menu and ordered a few other items all were great and the Nachos were a standout. They certainly have the food down! Had me sharing a plate of Nachos with dude I just met with reckless abandon!!
And that is where this story turns...the service while quick when they had your order...had to be chased down and captured like a gazelle in the Serengeti. They buzzed around and paid little attention to you if you were not "their table" we had long...LONG...intervals between checks for water or additional items. The long intervals between beers led to nursing beers, which leads to warm beer, which leads to agitation and ultimately stars start to be deducted. We thought that maybe she is looking at our drinks and using that as a determination but after 15 min with empty beer bottles lined up at the edge of the table we had to go find our server.
But wait...there is more...
About 10 min into our beer bottle fort construction a gentleman that looked to be part of the management staff came to our table, moved one of the bottles and placed a "RESERVED" sign on our table! Classy! There is nothing like setting up a table for the next party while your current guests are still eating!
In the end we figured that the great food, fast turnaround on orders and laid back atmosphere is worth another shot. My guess is that they were trying to clear out that half of the restaurant by upsetting us to the point we decide to leave so they could make room for a what had to be a party of 50 that called in judging by the number of reserved seating signs and agitated patrons looking at them. -

First a confession...after using yelp for years, this is my first ever Yelp review. That can only mean one of two things. I hated it and needed to spread the word or I was so pleased that I decided to take the plunge and share my excellent experience with the yelp world. With 5 stars, its obvious which one it was!
This was not my first time at Las Hadas but this was by far the most unexpected and enjoyable experiences. I have been when they first opened years ago because we were enticed by the hostess with cheap drinks. So we had 1 or 6 tequila poppers and were shocked about the prices at a place downtown. We were also given complimentary corn fritas. They are UNBELIEVABLE! They came to the table hot with butter and salsa. I prefer them with butter and they are so light they practically melt in your mouth. I could eat 50 of them in one sitting!
Ok, back to the experience...My girlfriend and I were talking around downtown looking for a place to grab drinks and dinner before the Padres/Phillies game. We mentioned Las Hadas but wanted to try something new but ended up not finding anything that interested us, we decided to just go to Las Hadas because we knew what we would get, cheap drinks and a great Happy hour. The server gave us the run down of the drink and food menus, we ordered some cocktails and the Corn Fritas (duh!) and were trying to decide what to get. I noticed the Pulled Pork Sandwich on the happy hour menu for $7 w/ fries. I love pulled pork sandwiches but at a Mexican restaurant???? I'm quite a risk taker so I thought I would give it a shot. I always worry that carnitas come out too dry so I ordered some extra BBQ sauce just in case. I have sampled some of the "best pulled pork sandwiches" in San Diego (Phil's) and I have to say this might have been THE BEST pulled pork sandwich I have ever had...EVER. I was almost embarrassed to show my excitement while I was eating it until I eventually let it go said "this is SO F'in good". I was torn with offering a bite to my girlfriend to join in the experience and keep it all to myself. The smarter side of my brain took over and offered some to her. She was equally surprised and pleased! It didn't taste like a classic pulled pork sandwich but everything worked together so well. The soft torta roll, the crunchy and flavorful slaw, amazingly seasoned carnitas and a delicious sauce. Shit...Im getting hungry for one just describing it and its 8:21 AM!
I highly recommend getting to Las Hadas the second the doors open! I might already be there waiting... -

Las Hadas is a great place to go for taco tuesday. The tacos are interesting; some have mango pineapple salsa. They have several atypical fruit margarita options. Blueberry margaritas....yes please!!!

Came here on a late Thursday night because most kitchen's in gaslamp were closed. We had the Crab Cakes, Calamari, Beef and lobster taco, Guacamole and chips, and Chicken Wings. All items were unexpectingly good for a late night dinner (figuring the head chef is already home for the night). Would come back, but would pass on the Chicken Wings. Service surprisingly good.

Good food, good service, happy happy hour
I came here for a birthday celebration. The tacos were on point and the drinks were cheap. Although, it was busy and there were alot of orders flying around, the waitress was always around. She remembered all our orders and side bars.
I had to leave early and she even took what i ate and drank off the total bill so i could pay seperate. Awesome service in my book!
Next time i come here im getting super drunk for cheap!! -

We stopped by here en-route to a padres game. They are really nice and generous even during happy hour. The server Rihanna brought us extra drinks and mexican hush puppies. This has also happened to us other times we've gone their with other servers.
They have a good happy hour. $3 coronas $1 tequila poppers. -

I really like this place. When I visited on a Monday afternoon/evening I enjoyed the happy hour selection and the delicious "compliments of the chef" appetizer. The bartender was very friendly and made a nice, strong margarita. I noticed they have a great Taco Tuesday deal and there was another day where the happy hour just rocked. Overall, I would definitely visit here again and would love to see what it's like at night on a weekend :)

one of my fave bar in DT its a small place but it so awesome! First of all I love all of their food especially the chicken adobo wings! wow that was bomb! The carne asada is also delish and all other stuff! The drinks is very affordable I am very surprise because most bars/clubs in dt is highly overpriced :( there's usually a lot of people that goes in this bar especially Friday's after hours you have to wait for like an hour or two to get a seat but that's because a lot people love it here...

WHAT A HAPPY HOUR MENU.
I was doing a gaslamp district of sorts, and usually try to pass up the mexican, cantina style spots because they all seem the same. No real personality, lack of a good menu, maybe a good price on beers but thats all, and nothing that really sets them apart.
As I am trying to walk past, I hear $4 patron shots.....ummm excuse me?? Im sorry sir, I must have misunderstood you, I sounded like you said $4 Patron shots.
I did replied the host, happy hour is about to finish up, come in for a few drinks.
Dont mind if I do....LOL Ordered 3 shots, under ten bucks, Im not even sure if they are making any money on that...actually maybe losing money. But I used the money I "saved" lol to buy food as well. Also note, Patron shots were super warm, but who I am to complain about a $4 Patron shot, beggars can't be choosers. I also ordered two of their part Patron, part something that was sweet and citrusy, cannot exactly remember what it was. They were $1 a piece, called tequila poppers. Not bad but straight shots are a much better deal.
Menu actually looked pretty legit, and I was hoping they weren't trying too hard to make their menu look appealing at first but lack actual flavor in their food. Might as well give it a whirl.
I ordered the ceviche and a couple asada tacos. Tacos were good, not my all time favorite but I am a tough crowd when it comes to tacos. The ceviche though....man I was impressed. Alot of flavor, ALOT of fish, plenty of shrimp which is good when most places give you like one....maybe two...by accident LOL Good stuff

Not what I was expecting. Colorful and loud. Lots of seafood. LOTS of seafood.
Carne asada fries were awesome. Fish tacos were big. Great service. Free corn bread fritters.
Why are San Diego restaurants so loud at 6 pm? -

I was pleasantly surprised at how good Las Hadas was. Their Happy Hour is pretty amazing - $5 Patron or Cabo Wabo shots, $4 Margaritas, $2 Tecate drafts, etc. I got a $4 Sangria that I would skip next time, overly sweet with an artificial flavor and no fresh fruit. Besides drink specials, they have some food specials which includes $6 appetizers. We had the Guacamole and Calamari - both for $6. Guacamole was pretty good, I'm pretty spoiled by La Puertas guacamole (which I love), but it was definitely really fresh. The calamari was cooked really well and the sweet-and-sour sauce was a unique flavor combination. We also got a free little pre-appetizer that was 4 little corn fritters with honey butter - so good.
I had the Lobster Quesadilla as my entree which was amazing. The lobster was really tender, and the addition of Cotija and Jack cheeses and corn made it even better. Served with chipotle crema and a tropical and mango enhanced salsa, I would definitely recommend this. It's huge and perfect for sharing. We had the deep-fried ice cream for dessert, because, well - it was hard to resist. Coated in Cornflakes and perfectly fried, it was amazing - as well the cinnamon tortilla shell holding it in perfect place. We got chocolate and caramel sauces with it, but we couldn't eat the caramel sauce because it was completely separated. There was a thick layer of oil on top of the caramel - either they make this in-house and it was separated, or for some reason the ramekin had oil in it before they poured it in.
What really impressed me was how great our service was. Everyone from the hostess to bartender was really nice, but our waitress Arianna (I think that was her name, so sorry if I got it wrong!), was so friendly and talkative and provided us with really great service!! -

No entiendo...
There's a bunch of packed spots that serve shitty tacos and drinks on Tuesdays...then there's Las Hadas. It's got a nice modern interior, the service is friendly, their tacos are the bomb and the margaritas are cheap and really good.
$4 margarita for Happy Hour (which is before 7 everyday). It's a tasty house margarita, that's not the shitty, sweet n' sour mix, Cuervo crap slung around at other spots. The $6 Cadillac is even better.
The tacos were really good. I had a $2 carne asada that was large and nicely done. The steak was tasty and had a pineapple salsa.
$4 for the shrimp, which was also good.
The search for the perfect Taco Tuesday spot continues, but until I find it, Las Hadas will do and do nicely. -

Boston, MA
I stumbled into here for their happy hour. I left after consuming 4 $2 tacos (2 carnitas, 1 carne asada, and 1 fish), an order of chips and guac, and a couple of beers. It was easily my favorite meal when I visited San Diego. I can't get this kind of Mexican where I live: delicious, flavorful, quick, and at a (really) good price point and quick. Most Mexican I eat makes me feel kind of gross afterwards. Not here. Corn tortillas are a must for me and that's the default for their tacos. The décor inside is pretty sleek as well. Overall, a great spot.

My friends and I hit up this place for the late night happy hour to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night. It was definitely busy but we managed to get a table, which was really nice since we were a large group and appreciated having someplace to stand around.
We didn't mess around and immediately ordered a round of the mysterious "Tequila Popper" shots that were only a $1 each. I, the birthday girl, thought they tasted fine, but according to my friends they may not have been worth the trouble? I guess the jury's out, but my verdict is this: if you're only paying $1 for a shot in the Gaslamp and it's not straight liquor, I don't care what it is, hand it over haha.
Next up was the food. The table got a couple orders of the guac and chips, which I guess were good since they were devoured in about 5 minutes. And I mean a completely clean plate...
All in all, I approve of this place. Chill atmosphere, good prices for Happy Hour, and I think a good time was had by all.Listed in: Downtown San Diego

We had dinner here Friday evening, and I was quite impressed.
We were planning to go to La Puerta, but it had a wait. Next door seemed just as cool, so we gave it a chance.
every single staff person I came into contact with was wonderful. Everyone was friendly, helpful, quick, and seemed interested in making sure I was happy. (I was downing water like I had just spent 2 weeks in the desert, and my water glass was refilled constantly. Multiple different people were keeping an eye on my glass!)
The happy hour deals were good. I had a margarita (tasty and strong, so it was great), and then we had way too much food. We had quesadillas, nachos, a side of brocolini, and chicken wings. (We also got a free dish of corn fritters). Everything was good. I especially enjoyed the brocolini, quesadillas, and nachos. (Also, I hate sour cream, so I asked for no sour cream on anything. So they put double guacamole on everything, how great is that?)
I also really like the atmosphere inside. There were people from all walks of life all together. (People coming from work, a couple girls night out groups, some dates, some groups of friends, some people by themselves, etc.) Oh, and you could see inside the kitchen, which is always a plus.
So to sum it up, they had great service, food, and drinks, and anyone would be comfortable there!Listed in: California

THE Taco Tuesday destination.
Family owned and operated, I've been going here since I relocated back to San Diego. The service is tremendous, food is amazing, drink specials are tough to beat, and even the ambiance is lovely. I'm in school locally in downtown and all the friends I've brought with me have kept coming.
On Tuesdays, it's a must. Stop by for the best tacos and drink specials downtown. When I moved to downtown, I explored a bit for my Taco Tuesday fix before I stumbled across this little place and needless to say, I haven't left since. Tacos, margaritas, and Tacates are all $2... so $15 will buy you a good night.
By the way.. don't confuse this place with La Puerta. That place is good too, but it's always packed, food isn't as good, and the specials aren't as awesome. -

Great 7 day a week happy hour. Sangria was good and the chili verde burger off the happy hour menu was delicious and big enough for 2 to share. The free corn fritters were also really good. Pricing was very good. We will be back for that burger and sangria and look forward to trying the ceviche.

I went here for dinner last weekend. My friend and I were happy to find they serve real food later than most restaurants in the area . . . we actually had trouble finding a place that did because they were all turning into "bar only". The atmosphere was modern and fun . . . think Urban-Modern-Mexican. They brought us complimentary appetizer which is always nice and they were delicious. It was a bit noisy at that hour (9:30ish) and turned more into a social scene but they were still able to operate as a normal restaurant. I had the fish tacos and they were really good. I'd recommend this place if you are in the area and looking to grab a bite.

Ten Things I like/dislike about Las Hadas on a Saturday night,
If you are looking for a guy/someone to hook up with, you'll find (all in one):
1. Short
2. Bald
3. Creeper
4. Filipino/Lao
5. Persistent
6. Annoying
7. Sausage-fest
8. Disgusting
9. Desperate
10. Drunk
If you are looking for a drink at a bar in downtown, you'll find:
1. Cheap Happy Hour
2. Under $20 for 4 shots of goose
3. Crowded bar
4. Semi-good music
5. Girl's night out
6. Lots of drunkies for cheap price
7. No lines
8. No douchy bouncer
9. Small venue
10. Casual
There seriously were a lot of short, bald, persistent, desperate guys in Las Hadas. Anything you say, they don't care and will follow you if you leave. If you say you have a bf, "they have a gf", if you say your lesbian "they love lesbianz", if you say your not interested, "it'll come as I get your number". LAME. -

I'm definitely a fan of those $1 tequila poppers. sure, it's not a full shot, but they're super fun and super yummy. food was good, margaritas were a little on the salty side. we were seated right away at happy hour on a friday night, which was awesome. we were almost overcharged, but I'm willing to overlook that since I had such a good time.
Definitely the place to go before you hit the clubs and/or bars. -

They have great happy hour specials. The food wasn't particularly special, but the service was amazing. The staff really made you feel welcome and special.
I also noticed the manager (owner?) on the floor making sure that everyone was happy.

This place reeks of Gaslamp with its trendy decor, loud music, wait lists, and prices. Not your typical mexican joint. Our service was great but it was very crowded and had trouble hearing my homegirl talk over all the noise. Not a positive in my book.
They were nice enough to give us free corn fritters as an appetizer, those were very good. The carne asada tacos were good tasting, fresh, and had big chunks of meat, but you only get two and they left me hungry afterwards.
So there's awesome service and good taste, but not enough bang for the buck and very loud. If I get a taco craving down here, I'll drink a less and drive 10 minutes south to Tacos El Gordo. -
Review from Robert C.
The best thing about this place's their workers. They're extremely friendly; nice to kids and great at promoting their place. They pretty much persuaded us to eat there. They also gave us free complimentary corn fritters.
Shrimp, Lobster & Steak Taco ($10) - Huge portion; they didn't go cheap with the lobster and steak. They tasted fresh & delicious; I'd get this again. **4 stars
I also their Taco Bowl, Guacamole & Chips, Steak Fajitas. They're not bad, taste a bit better than most tex-mex place.
Overall - Cool place to grab a beer or two while eating. Their portions're great & friendly workers. I'll give this place 3 1/2 stars for flavor, however due to their service, I'll bounce it to 4 stars. -

If you can't bear the long wait at La Puerta next door, I highly recommend coming here. A group of us were faced with this same predicament and decided to come here for dinner, and we weren't disappointed. The decor was modern, but I didn't like that the clubby dance+Mexican music was blaring a little louder than necessary. We were seated quickly and given a menu with a wide array of typical Mexican food choices. I chose the enchilada del mar and was delightfully surprised. While a little pricey for a smaller sized dinner portion, it was chock full of lobster and shrimp (though more shrimp than lobster.) Every bite contained seafood, and the green tomatillo sauce was paired well with the grilled seafood flavors. Our server was nice and gave us a sample of their corn fritters (deep fried cornbread balls). I personally wouldn't order it again since it wasn't memorable, but who passes up free food?!
Their late night happy hour is also worth checking out (10p-midnight every night)! Appetizer and drink specials are well priced. Try a $1 tequila popper - they were fruity but strong. Well drinks for $5 - yes please! Their sangria is also worth checking out - be careful, it's a creeper! For food choices, adobo chicken wings were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. You can't go wrong with carne asada fries either - crispy fries, well flavored carne asada that wasn't dry and was a generous portion. The sour cream/guacamole made a nice accompaniment.
For great Mexican food downtown, come check out Las Hadas! -

I came to las hadas with a group of friends around 7pm on a Tuesday night & it was packed to the brim. Luckily we know someone who works in there & they were able to get us a table at the bar but the wait for a regular table was up to an hour, just for a bar! The deals are worth the wait though, $2 margaritas & $2 tacos [that are amazing]. Would definitely go back!

I came here with my boyfriend and another couple on a saturday night while visiting san diego. My friend chose this place but I personally didn't like it too much. It was super packed and loud. I could hardly hear the person across from me, let alone the person next to me! Appetizers were okay, drinks fine. This isn't a place I'd recommend to come to of you want to catch a drink and chat. My experience was okay, but not a place I'd go to again.

AMAZING FIND!!
We were in the Gaslamp district for the weekend and the plan was to go to La Puerta for dinner. However, the wait there was ridiculous. Las Hadas, which was right next door, was advertising $5 patron shots and margaritas. We looked at each other and decided, why not??
The specials were amazing, but it's the food that will bring me back! I had the most amazing seafood enchilada to date. The shrimp and lobsters were fresh and plated beautifully. Every bite was an explosion of flavors. The verde sauce was slightly spicy, creamy, and rich. Highly recommend this dish. My party of four all enjoyed our dishes.
Gorgeous venue, great vibe, friendly servers, and amazing food and drinks! Definitely will come back for more! -

I had a great time at Las Hadas! The friendly waitstaff greeted us at the door and were very helpful with any of our needs. The sangria was delicious, and they even brought us a complimentary appetizer.
The food was outstanding! I ordered the seafood relleno, and not only was the portion huge (I had more than enough to take home with me) but they did not skimp on the amount of shrimp and lobster.
The only downside I would have to say about it was that it was a little loud. For the amazing quality of service and the excellence of the food, I feel that the atmosphere was more on the casual side. However, that might not be a downside for everyone. My boyfriend liked it because he didn't have to dress up and he was able to watch the game at the same time...
And although I wasn't there in the morning, I saw that they had a great mimosa special for their Sundays! Who doesn't love that?
