One of the best meals I've had. Ever. I have been wanting to eat here for a few years and finally came here last night on a lark (sorry, had to).

The ambiance and service were top-notch. Immediately when we walked in, I noticed this amazing scent wafting from the kitchen and it made me feel at home, like I was invited into someone's house for dinner. Flickering candles and sheer, floor-length curtains made the space feel intimate and relaxed. Our server was wonderful; she was warm, attentive, and genuinely interested in how we were enjoying our meal.

We ordered four plates to share and everything was incredibly satisfying and delicious. The foie gras terrine was rich and silky and the rhubarb jam it was served with provided the perfect tart-sweet contrast. Every bite of crostini slathered with this stuff was perfect.

The halibut with spiced cashews in a curry sauce and hearts of palm was unbelievable! The fish was sweet and tender and the sauce and cashews gave it a spicy kick. I wanted to mop up every last bit of that sauce. This one was hands-down our favorite dish.

We had one of the specials, a pork-rabbit pot pie served with a salad of wild greens and spring onion bulbs. The crust was buttery and flaky and the meat was rich and really flavorful. The tangy spring onions were the perfect accompaniment to each mouthful of the savory pie.

We also had the nettle, leek, and potato soup. It was good but not a standout.

Is bacon in season? I love bacon but found the egregious use of it in many dishes almost a turn-off.  Some places use bacon as a crutch but Lark doesn't need to since the food had a great taste and excellent presentation.

The almonds and olives were a good starter with a glass of wine.  The poached egg on the baby spinach salad was a nice touch to a classic.  Ricotta gnudi were beautiful and the seafood specials (soft shell crab and sea bass) were excellent.  Small plates make it easy for sharing with a good friend and kept it a light meal.  Service was attentive and I liked the "Japanese" style of what seemed like any server was there to make your meal enjoyable (i.e. whichever server saw the bill was ready took it for processing).

Conveniently located next door to Canon for a before or after dinner drink (or both!).

    I LOVED IT!!!

Last week I went to Lark for Seattle Restaurant Week. I'd been walking by this place for a year and now I'm sad I hadn't gone before.

I had Pork Rillettes with their house made crackers, pretty tasty. I'd go back for that alone.

Worth the money. Great service, ambiance, and food.

We've always been wanting to try this place ever since we saw it on Giada's weekend getaways. The concept is small plates so make sure you get 3-4 dishes per person if you are hungry. We shared the following plates

    - Wild nettle, potato and leek soup
    with black pepper creme fraiche

The soup had good texture silky and smooth and the dollop of creme fraiche will always make us sinfully devour the lusciousness it added at the cost of calories

    - Ricotta gnudi with nettles, green garlic,
pine nuts and Parmigiano Reggiano brodo

Gnudi melts in your mouth and the pine nuts add just the right amount of crunch to create a party in your mouth

    - Bluebird Grain Farms farro
black trumpets, red wine salsify, mascarpone

simplicity abounds in this dish, did not really wow us but helped add a good balance to the richness surrounding the other dishes

    - Neah Bay halibut, spiced cashews,
Vadouvan curry, hearts of palm, date

This is by far one of the most memorable seafood dishes I've tasted. I am not sure what the secret sauce behind the vadouvan curry is but it really elevates this dish to zen levels

    - Mishima Ranch wagyu hanger steak
truffled celery root, red wine sauce

By now we were quite full actually so I did not enjoy this dish as much as it promised.

    - Date hazelnut brown butter cake
    salted caramel toffee ice cream

We will have dessert no matter how full we are. This plate did not disappoint although I feel the cake could have been more moist.

The service was friendly and attentive. I'd highly recommend this place for a special occasion.

We came here for Restaurant Week 2012. Personally, I use Restaurant Week to "audition" restaurants, seeing where I'd want to come back again for a special occasion, or where I'd recommend to people who want to have a really amazing dinner (my parents, my foodie friends with well-paying jobs, etc.).

Lark was a pleasant enough evening, but it didn't knock my socks off enough that I would rush to point to it and say, this is amazing, eat here.

    We had:
-Warm asparagus with watercress, goat cheese and truffle vinaigrette
-Creamy cauliflower soup with Vadouvan curry, capers, golden raisin relish
Both pretty good. You may bathe me with truffle vinaigrette any time you like.

-Chicken tagine with couscous, tomato, carrots, harissa olives and clove honey yogurt
-Wild mushroom cassoulet with white beans, root vegetables and garlic bread crumbs
Chicken tagine: great (says my boyfriend). Cassoulet: not great, sort of flavorless. I think this dish could be a standout in the winter, but in April it just seems heavy, dark and dreary.

-Pineapple tarte tatin with rum caramel and vanilla bean ice cream
-Rhubarb hazelnut crisp with buttermilk ice cream
Pineapple tarte tatin: best in show. Rhubarb crisp: pretty amazing.

Wine was nice, service was fine, although at a truly top-notch place, I think they would have noticed that I only ate a third of the cassoulet before I gave up on it.

It seems from the reviews that people really seem to enjoy their meat dishes here, so although they do have vegetarian food, it probably isn't worth going if you're not down for pork and lamb and duck etc.

Last week my friend and I met at Lark and had a very nice evening. The service was great, food was good (shortbreads exceptional! by far my favorite) and the ambience warm & inviting. We went to Canon afterward for a drink and it was the perfect way to end the night.

It was an orchestra of flavors in my mouth. I haven't had a memorable meal like the one I had last night in a while. Lark is the perfect setting for that kind of memorable dining experience.

The exposed wood beams with sheer, white curtains flowing from the rafters give the dining area a nice open feel with a sense of privacy between tables. The service was perfect, with enough guidance to get us started. The suggested amount of plates was just right. Our selections reflected our adventurous mood, with the chicken liver parfait ranking at the top, followed by the Wagyu steak tartare. My only regret is that we did not leave enough time to enjoy any of the desserts. Next visit, we'll allow more time before a show.

How does one not go back for more? I definitely see us visiting Lark over and over, or at least until we've tried every item on the menu.

    Lark, thanks for being awesome!

Lark::  This is a tough one to wrap my mouth around.  Perfect food and presentation. Wonderfully attentive staff. This is the ultimate in Less equals more. Overpriced?  sure.  Tasty?  Very much so. Desserts were flawless.  Best in show was the Yellowtail in lemon oil with fennel and green olives.  Worst in show was the smoked beef heart that was wafer thin. too thin.  Glad I tried yet I feel cheated.

Excellent food, great service and a ton of fun. Somehow they have taken a rather "square" footprint and made all the tables feel intimate without any interior walls.

Family style ordering is highly recommended. Provides the ability to sample a wider array of their delicious plates. All-in-all a great place to spend time with friends, eat superb food and laugh! You must try the Scallops and definitely save room for dessert: butter cake with salted caramel ice cream? Yes!

BTW - recommend starting at Canon next door for a cocktail. Perfect way to warm up your appetite.

Went to Lark on a double-date night, and hoped for better than was delivered. The ambiance is beautiful - very warm space, beautiful tables and lighting. Friendly service, though our server did seem a little adamant that we order more food.

The food was generally good, but unfortunately nothing really wowed us. We ordered 4 small plates per couple, and one of the couples still left hungry after a hefty, $150+ bill (and we didn't order any drinks). The pork belly was good, the mussels good, the wild boar shoulder good, and the duck leg quite good (probably the most memorable of the dishes). The report from the other end of the table is that everything else was just good - but nothing to write home about.

I can't say that with the price tag and the lack of "wow" in the dishes that I would be eager to return. Overall, it was good, but for what you pay, I would expect more from the food.

Went to Lark for an anniversary dinner on New Year's.

This is quite the space. Open and warm. Definitely an understated elegance that seemed a perfect fit.

Service was also top-notch. The hostess remembered a couple diet allergies I had mentioned when I made the reservation. Our server was very professional.

The food was... good. I guess this is where price really becomes a big factor. When you're dropping hundreds of dollars on a meal you really compare the experience to the best dining experiences you've ever had. Unfortunately, though Lark was easily the most I've ever spent on a meal, I can't say it would even chart on my Best Meals list.

The dishes were solid efforts. Flavorful and rich, but nothing that really wowed. No plates that I'd go rave to friends about. Portions were also quite small. We noticed a certain trepidation in our server's voice when we declined having any bread with our meal. Sure enough, those rolls are definitely needed to help fill a hungry diner's belly.

Lark certainly knows what it's doing. It has a charming ambiance and the air of a restaurant that's very comfortable in its skin.

The meal just didn't measure up to the price point.

Lark (noun) a merry, carefree adventure. A frolic. An escapade.

A blissful evening with my women of wisdom. We savored, sipped and smiled throughout our culinary escapade. Perfect and well timed table service. Flavorful small plates with a few traditional entrees from local farmers and artisans. Select cheese, fish, meats, vegetables, grains and, always my favorite course, dessert. We gushed over the jellied pork rillettes, dumpling squash soup, baby octopus in a spicy tomato sauce, wild strip bass with caramelized cauliflower, apple crisps with hazelnut streusel, port ginger cake.

It was merry. It was carefree. It was an adventure.

Still, after the 7th time visiting Lark, I am blown away........ speechless!   Now back home from a Seattle weekend,  my palate tingles from the remembrance of my last plates before dessert, the.....super sleek cheeses: Persille de Malzieu (salt, blue),  Dulcinea ( tangy).  For meat,  I had the Wild Boar and yes (2 meat dishes) the Crispy Liberty Farm duck leg with grapefruit zest (citrus) and watercress (pungent) flavors elevating the crispness and sweetness of the duck leg......... :0  The wine list changed a bit from when I was here last and had the Syncline Subduction Red '10 with meats (never had it but this Syrah made the meats sing with yummyness).  Was so impressed by this wine, I ran to the closest wine shop from my hotel day before my flight back and snuck a bottle in my luggage (yes I carry an inflatable wine cradle  with me when traveling for moments like this). Shhhhh.    Les desserts were perfectly sweet to end your experience here and leaves you a joy not oft felt!  Try the house made malt ice cream which comes with an almond florentine.... was honestly ......Holy Cupid!

...  John Sundstrom  rocks out preparations that I appreciate and always remember. The food at Lark is  raw, delectably sensual and organic...... pure, no affect.  Here, dining is not theatre.   In its incomparable simplicity and invention, the flavors here delight the palate and the soul.

Happy Valentine's Day to all me Yelpies :))

Just got back from Restaurant Week.  I ordered the squash soup, cod and vanilla dessert.

It was all so tastey and delicious!  The squash soup was amazing and so perfect for this cold day!  The cod was fresh and tastey and the vanilla dessrt was so sweet and not so rich where you couldn't take it, but so smooth!

Parking is literally next door to them so you wont have to walk too much in the cold!

    Atmosphere was great,
    Service was ok,
Food was less than we had hoped.

We came here for restaurant week and were a bit disappointed. The service was a bit slow, the food was ok and the portions were quite small. Mind you, we just came from Staple and Fancy as well as Tilthe this past week and in comparison, these two other places (especially Staple and Fancy) blew Lark out of the water on all the points listed above. I had the dumpling squash soup (maybe it's just me, but I was expecting dumplings of some sort....but no dumplings), the rigatoni bolognese (good, but nothing outstanding and portion was small), and the apple crisp (good, but not excellent). Given the price of the regular menu, and the embarrassment of riches that we have here as Seattleites when it comes to restaurants, we will likely not return.

Back for a 3rd time as my sister wanted her Bday dinner here. So much better than my first 2 experiences here.

    - Best bread ever
    - Corn soup with truffle - definitely more of cold corn soup with some mushrooms in it. I've definitely had better. I didn't taste the truffle at all.
    - Dungeness crab salad with radish, speckled lettuce. Just ok, the crab is extremely overpoweringly salty so you don't taste the sweetness that you should experience with fresh crab
    -  Carpaccio of Yellowtail - I love yellowtail and I really like it. Perfect amount of acidity
    -  Manila clams with very yummy chorizo - The individual clams are small, but I liked the flavor, would of loved some mild spiciness to it.
    - Black seabass - salty, slightly overcooked. Without the sauce, it would have been dry.

The Waitress/servier was great. It was busy for a Sunday night, but food came out fast, water glass was always full, and a lively restaurant.

I went there last night with a friend, as part of the Seattle Restaurant Week. I have been wanting to try Lark for a while, but never got a chance until now. One word - Amazing!

Intimate and cozy ambiance. Every dish was right on point. We share the 3-course dinner as part of the Restaurant Week and ordered 2 more small plates. Our favorite were: the BREAD, the baby octopus with blackened rice, the dumpling squash soup and the panna cotta (and the PANNA COTTA!!)

We didn't have to wait since it was a Tuesday night, not sure how busy it can get in the weekend. But no worries, while you wait, stop by Licorous, a bar next door for one of their signature drinks.

I definitely look forward to the next visit!!

I'm very excited to give Lark 5 stars.

Being restaurant week, I know service and food can be hit-or-miss. Lark was a complete hit. The food was extremely well thought out, the kind of creativity I'm happy to pay $30+ dollars for.

I tried the chorizo/sole/apple crumble combo from restaurant week, as well as the steak tartare, pork belly, and scallops from the regular menu. All of them completely blew me away.

I will most definitely be back to Lark!

I had dinner here last month and was blown away. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. The menu consists of small plates, which I love! It allows you to order a few more things per person, which allows you to taste more things on the menu! I was there with 5 people and we ordered about 3 dishes per person. The prices are average and really depend on what you order. I will definitely be going back and recommending this place to everyone.

I was actually very disappointed by my meal here - given that this restaurant had received such high stars.

The service was great - but the food was not great at all.  My two favorite things: steak tartare and foie gras - were generally tasteless and lackluster.

I really did want to like this place, but it just wasn't doing it for me.  Given the plethora of options in Seattle - I won't be going back.

Another spendy-trendy place with tons of hype. Service was good and ambiance was akin to an old (large) house. Great location but the food was just so-so. Portions were small.

    Bottom line:
Go here if you are feeling "out of the loop" with what's happening in the restaurant scene in Seattle, then regret it and go to Lecosho instead.

I loved Lark! We went for Restaurant Week. This is what I got:

Appetizer - Cauliflower soup = AMAZING.

Entree' - They had a special that wasn't listed on their menu - Halibut. = ALSO QUITE DIVINE.

BUT HOLD ON this is when things took a sad turn...

Dessert - Chocolate Sorbet. NO, NO, NO. IT TASTED LIKE A DARK CHOCOLATE VERSION OF A WENDY'S FROSTY. I would have rather have had the Wendy's frosty for one million dollars cheaper and more smiles.

I didn't deduct a star for my sad dessert because I was able to taste my boyfriends dessert which was the Lemon Buttermilk Panna Cotta = GET THIS. So good! By the way,  he really enjoyed his foods too.

We also got a delightful bottle of wine.

I spent the last of my money at Lark. Right now I'm eating a Stagg's Vegetarian canned chili for lunch. How depressing.

We went to Lark for the first time last night. Walking in we noticed lively atmosphere with people enjoying good food and conversation. We were very politely greeted and offered seats at the bar while waiting for our table. I had a manhattan and my partner had a martini. Both were good.

The menu is interesting and all meant to share. The plates are small to medium. The server did explain while sharing is intended, they are happy to accommodate if each person at the table selects their own course.

At the table we started with cheese and house made crackers. Both very nice. Then some house made fois gras terrine that was very mild and buttery served with strawberry blossom honey. A must for pate or fois gras fans. We enjoyed a chardonnay by the glass with this course. The wine list had a nice selection and was quite reasonable.

We shared the crab salad that had been lightly dressed with Green Goddess. It was fresh and light and the portion of crab was generous. Then we each had our own selection for the main course. I had the special feature for the evening. Chicken fried oysters with a light salad. My partner had the quail wrapped in pancetta and sage, served with a little swiss chard. Both were quite good. The oysters were mild and not at all greasy. The quail was savory and full of flavor.

The dessert choices looked good as we noticed them walking by to other tables, but that will be for next time. We indulged a little more on the cheese and charcuterie plates than usual on this trip.

The server was very knowledgeable on the menu and easily could answer any questions. The overall experience was great, and we look forward to returning.

Lark makes me feel at home with an unpretentious and elegant décor.
The waitress was very pleasant and professional.  Let me spoil my review by telling you this is a restaurant I actually have nothing bad to talk about.  Usually, I complain about subtlest things and elements in the dish are just "not done", but not at Lark.  Lark has good service and superb food.

The delectable Burrata with Billy's tomatoes, olive oil croutons and two basils is a must have appetizer.   I am happy with my Meyer Ranch hanger steak, presented on a colorful plate with greens and Bearnaise sauce. Their dessert specialty, the Theo chocolate pot de creme with whipped cream and coffee granita made of simplest ingredients but the result is delicious.  The nutty spice hidden in the chocolate really gives a good kick. Well done.

Thanks to the block party special, we got a three course for only $28. Go to their website and subscribe their newsletter to get the deal notification emails. I certainly will come back again.

What a wonderful cozy restaurant to dine at with close friends. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance. It's not cheap, mind you; but life is good when you can splurge just for the fun of it (once in a while of course).

We had 9 dishes + a bottle red wine between the 4 of us. We didn't find ourselves exasperating "I'm SO full" after the meal, but the taste and presentation on the other hand... made us squeal in excitement because they were just so exquisite. The memorable ones were the roasted eel, duck leg, and pork belly. Do chat with the waitress to find out what she recommendations, ours was very knowledgeable and friendly in helping us decide what to order.

A must for foodies who seek a good savoring experience. The place is usually pretty full, though we walked in on a Friday night and only had to wait around 15 minutes for a table to be ready.

Lark is like a TLC song (crazy. sexy. cool.) without all the drama. The brief rundown is the food is crazy good, the atmosphere is sexy, and the staff are extremely cool. If you're a nuts and bolts only kind of person you could stop here and go on ahead to Lark to place your order for pork belly. If you want more of the details by all means here they are.

Katy H and I stopped in here for dinner during one of my Seattle trips. Lark encourages family-style sharing because the menu consists of small to medium-sized plates. In a strange coincidence I also encourage family-style sharing in pretty much every meal I eat, even snacks, because I like to sample and sample and sample. However, the crispy pork belly with Borlotti beans was almost enough to make me fight for the entire plate in some sort of crazed butter knife dual. Luckily I was able to get my taste buds in check and no one was harmed during the course of the meal.

Besides the delicious pork I also sampled an apple and endive salad with walnuts and blue cheese and just a few of the cheeses they offer. The salad was a perfect meld of the sweet and tangy flavors. And you really can't go wrong with any cheese plate in my mind. However, the bread served before (and eaten with my cheese) was exceptional.

Lark is a place I could easily see myself returning to time and again if I were a Seattle resident. In fact, I would return to it again on my next visit if Katy's kind enough to take me.

Lark continues the tradition of excellent small plate restaurants in Seattle.  The Beef Tartar and Duck Leg are stand-outs.  The special (lamb chops) were also terrific.

The services is excellent and I really liked the atmosphere, which was classy but very comfortable.

I think I might give the nod to Tilth in a cook-off but that's not an insult to Lark.

As a foodie I couldn't get enough of Lark- everything was to die for.
The interior was beautiful and a very relaxing setting.

    Can't wait to go back.

I felt like I had a bit of just about everything on the menu and liked it all.  Good local seafood and locally sourced ingredients.  Wine list was a bit restricted for the cuisine. I really like the small plate format and the service was excellent.  Will be back.

"None but the lark so shrill and clear; / How at heaven's gates she claps her wings, / The morn not waking till she sings." -John Lyly

I couldn't help but put a quote about a lark b/c this restaurant made me happy. This is such a great restaurant and I don't know why it took me so long to make it here. I had heard that it's hard to get a table but with some pre-planning and a reservation it wasn't a problem. The staff were so welcoming and nice.

    This is what I ate:
    - Pommes de terre "Robuchon" - So yummy in it's little Le Creuset pot
    - Meyer Ranch hanger steak with asparagus, ramps, potatoes, truffle - tastiness
    - Crispy Liberty Farm duck leg with wood sorrel, walnuts and cracklings - recommend!
    - Chicken (and this wasn't on the website so I can't remember how it was cooked) - just okay

The bar can make any type of drink you'd like so I had a french style drink.

I will return soon to try the many other dishes I wasn't able to try.

Quite simply, my favorite restaurant at the moment.  The food is simple and exquisite - from the duck to the pork belly to the mushroom farro, it was all wonderful.  Surely it has much to do with the local, organic ingredients (as they aren't afraid to tell you), but you also realize that each dish is thoughtfully created for great taste and balance.  I will also add that while I am a carnivore I went with a vegetarian who thought it was equally amazing.  Can't recommend it enough.

I came back for an early dinner with my sister.

On this visit, I thought the service was a bit nicer this time around. The arrogance that was gone.

The menu, while still trying to be creative, did not have a lot of appeal to me. It was really kind of boring. I know this is a rough time of year for produce, but still the vegetable selection was nothing great.

We started out with the Hearts of Palm salad that was very good. The fennel played well with the blood orange and palm. My sister did not know what gnudi was, so we had to order it. The gnudi were some of the best I had ever had and the sauce with pine nuts was perfect. I did not like the mushroom selection that came with the dish. The flavor did not taste right with the rest of the dish and they were a but rubbery.

We then had the rosti. It was good, but it was a little over done. Then came the duck leg which was so delicious and tender. It was not too gamey. We also had the hangar steak. It was a bit tough and chewy compared to hangars I have had in the past.

They really do and did a good job her, but not like the first visit.

Full disclosure:  I visited Lark in June 2011.

This is quite simply one of the best restaurants I have ever been. It is a foodie paradise. They are masters of texture, balance, and freshness. What I saw at the farmers' market in the morning was on my plate that evening. Cheeses are wonderful--let the server choose for you. Try the faro, whichever way it comes, or any vegetable.

The setting is intimate but light and airy. Go there, now.
