Review from Christiane P.
Oshawa, ON
We went to Largo last week, as my boyfriend is from Quebec City and used to frequent this restaurant often before moving. He loved the ambiance, and said the owner was very forthcoming and took great pride in providing great friendly service to his patrons. The menu they have is French/Italian cuisine with a frequently changing selection of menu items according to seasonal availability.
Even though our appetizer (gaspacho) and our entrees were delicious (filet mignon tartar with fries, pasta with spinach and mushrooms in a cream sauce), the menu is not vegetarian friendly, with a VERY limited selection of meat free choices. The kitchen was flexible enough to leave the ham out of my pasta, which was nice.
The service that night was very disappointing though. Our waitress had a very fake friendliness to her, which was more bothersome, seeing that we had some concerns, such as sediments in our aperitif. She went ahead to check the bottle, told us it the end of the bottle, and just smiled without replacing our drinks. After clearing our plates she left, did not ask us whether we wanted dessert, and when we finally got to order our creme brulee, it was served to us HOT! The creme brulee was still so hot (the custard part) that the caramelized sugar was still a thick malleable caramel. Although the taste was good, hot custard is just not a good texture. After clearing our dessert, she then just forgot about us. After 45 minutes of waiting to get her attention, to have her come to our table, or just to even inquire if we needed anything else, my boyfriend went up to the bar to settle our bill.
It was quite disappointing for him, as he wanted to show me this nice restaurant that he had so many fond memories of, but as he noted, the owner was not there that night, which may (but should not) have been the reason for such miserable service.
