    Dear Yelpers,
This place is wicked. It's in this little strip mall right near NAIT and I never would have ever gone there, except that a foodie friend of mine strongly recommended it to me... and it didn't let me down. When you enter it looks like a fast food place due to the large neon menu behind the cash, but it's totally a sit-down place too (liquor-licensed).
I don't know if Tom is the owner but he was working the tables and is an extremely engaging guy. Funny and chatty, super nice too - he even changed the TV channel so that we could watch some NFL action!
Food is very reasonably-priced (about $7-$10 for mains), and they have a decent vegetarian selection too. It's mostly Thai-inspired but I did see a pho option listed. We started with appetizer-sized tom yum soups - a savoury fragrant broth with some onions, cilantro, and I think fish sauce in it as well. You can also order a full-sized one which I imagine would have the mushrooms and shrimp in it, and they also have a tom yum noodle soup bowl that I would definitely try.
My fiancé ordered the red chicken curry with potatoes, at the 2-pepper spice level (you can have up to 3), and it was perfect. You get a steaming bowl of jasmine rice, and a large bowl of tender dark chicken pieces and potatoes in a red curry coconut broth. So, so good.
I ordered a supersized ($13) shrimp pad thai, at the 1.5-pepper spice level (also perfect). It's served on a long narrow rectangular plate - very pretty but I kept worrying that I was going to get noodles everywhere. You get 5 large shrimp on the bed of noodles, green onions, bean sprouts, peanuts, egg bits, and something so deliciously crunchy - I think it might have been a pickled carrot julienne? Noodles were perfectly resilient, and all the flavours were perfectly balanced, especially with a squirt of lime. I would definitely order it again but I look forward to trying out their other dishes! Thanks to the cook Monica for a delicious meal!
The service was really exceptional. Even when we had to wait a little to pay, Tom kept conversing with us, asking if we minded waiting a minute, and making sure we knew that he hadn't forgotten about us. They do accept credit cards here and there is ample parking in the lot.
Absolutely will be coming back here again and highly recommend this little gem to others!!

I wouldn't have stumbled upon this restaurant if I hadn't been hit with extreme hunger during a trip to Value Village. I'm so glad I found Lan's. The lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl is one of my go-to dishes, and it's always flavorful and delicious. Tom, one of the owners, is always super friendly and helpful which makes the experience even more enjoyable (if the food wasn't enough).

Lan's is a clean, inviting, friendly, cheap, and delicious place to go when you've got a craving for Asian. What more could you possibly want?

Truly a gem among a sea of mediocre Asian eateries in Edmonton.

I had been here once prior, having a late night study sesh at NAIT and starving for something other than cafeteria food.
I only went in for take out and vaguely remember even being there or even what I ordered.

Now, after working, I had a craving for Thai and hit up that hotspot with a colleague of mine.  Surprisingly, the son actually remembered I had been there once before!!

After looking at all the yummy things on the menu, and having a chit chat with the owner of the place, we settled on the red curry with chicken and potatoes, the tom yum pho and spring rolls.

The atmosphere is super comfortable and the owner and son are very nice and accommodating people.  Apparently the daughter is the cook which is nice that the owner and family are taking care of the place.

The food was amazing, of course.  And being able to order in varying levels of spicyness is a great idea.  The curry comes with a level 2(?) and I would have preferred it a little spicier, so next time I will order it a level 3.

There was little no wait each time I went there and highly recommend this place for almost everyone as it is quite chilling to go with friends, or quaint to bring a date.

This is everything you want in a noodle shop: bright, very clean kitchen, and GREAT food.  Love the pad thai, the Tom Yum soup and the mango smoothies.  But hidden gem was the seafood nuggets appetizers.  Everything is made even better the host/owner Tom (or Tommy as his friends call him). He is so charming.

Not far from the Avenue of Nations but easier parking and friendlier host that most located there.

A stylish, clean and spacious restaurant with some awesome food. Tom was an exceptional host.

We tried the onion cake, spring rolls, beef pho soup and spicy red curry stew. All was very good and the price was reasonable.

Will definitely be back for more!

Went here after reading all the reviews on Yelp. Excellent in every way. Great food, excellent service, family owned and operated, they did everything to make sure we had a good meal. Will definitely be going back.

Doesn't it always seem like the best places are the ones you never heard of? Someone mentions or recommends them, you decide to try it out, and love the place? And it's, GASP, not on Jasper or Whyte Ave. That's exactly what happened to me tonight with Lan's.

It's in a pretty random spot (unless you go to NAIT), tucked into that weird strip mall on 118 Ave. with the Value Village near that bingo hall. It's much nicer and more modern on the inside than you would expect before walking in.

The owner (Tom, as I gather from other reviews, although he didn't tell us his name) was totally friendly the whole time we were there, from the time we sat down, to when we went up to order, to checking on us throughout the meal. The other staff I briefly encountered were also great. I feel like this is what really pushes a restaurant over the edge for me and makes me happy. Owners/staff that just radiate love for their restaurant. I did notice his familiarity with some regulars and liked that. I'm looking forward to becoming one of them!

Their menu is medium sized, with about 25 items to choose from. And boy did I have a hard time deciding. I chose the red curry with noodles ($9.95). The bowl was deceiving! What a huge portion. The flavour was great, milky and spicy but not overwhelming at all. I couldn't stop eating it, and I was sad when I had to stop! Next time I'll get rice to soak up all the yummy sauce. We also had the spring rolls and green onion cake, which were fresh and light. Very, very reasonable prices. I think the curry was the most expensive thing. My dad had a medium vermicelli bowl and I think it was less than $7.

I'm looking forward to going to Lan's again and bringing all my friends!

    P.S. - Woo hoo, 100th review!

If it wasn't for yelp reviews, I would've never discovered this little gem of a restaurant. Now that I did, I'll keep coming back again and again.

The location of Lan's is less than desirable. However, don't let it deter you from coming here next time you are craving delicious authentic Asian food because Lan's is that - out of this world, top-notch, taste-buds-are-crying-happy-tears food. All menu items are reasonably priced and portions are generous.

My co-diner and I ordered salad rolls, chicken, potatoes and rice curry bowl and chicken pad thai. To say that everything was delicious is to say nothing! Spicy, savory, flavorful...completely and utterly satisfying... I'll say no more.

Actually, I'll say one more thing: Tom, who appears to be the greeter, the order-taker and the waiter will make your stay at Lan's pleasant and memorable. This gentleman is friendly, funny, chatty and courteous. He's the gem himself:)

I drove across town because other Yelpers were rating this so high and saying good things about it. So we invited friends from St.Alabert and met half way. The drive was worth it. Tom our host lived up to his rating and the food was excellent. Green onion cakes were unique and salad rolls were really large...maybe too big.but they do not scrimp on serving size here.Pad Thai was great as was the red curry chicken stew. All was fresh, served hot and just in time. This restaurant will do well. It keeps prices in line in part with lower rent location and fewer fancy furnishings...all in all a 5 star combo.

What a gem. Hidden away form a nondescript traffic circle, Lan's left me with a lasting and incredibly positive impression. It's a family run affair, and for first time customers, go with their recommendations. I tried Pad Thai, Tom Yum Fried Rice and Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp. In a word, YUM. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation, stylish decor, and a solid belief in what they do. You can customize your spice level; on a scale of one to three, I found that one was sufficient to make my nose run but not to overpower the food itself. The Pad Thai was especially amazing - noodles, spicy shrimp, peanuts and scallions that just cry out for another bite when you think you are full. This is why people should be in the restaurant business - when they create masterpieces like Lan's.

There's only two places I know of where you can go and they know your name and what you ate last time you were there. The first place is my moms house (after she feeds me I usually have to fix something for her).
The Second place is Lan's Asian Grill. The owner greets you by name (if you've met before, creepy if you haven't) Strikes up a conversations, asked if you want your regular and if you don't he'll make an educated suggestion.

The only thing that might be better then the service is the food. I've had a few dishes on the menu (all were amazing), but my favorite is The Beef Stir Fry w/ peppers and onions, comes a side of pepper vinaigrette.

Take the best Asian cuisine you've ever had and add some more awesome to it.

So far and still my fav place to grab some padthai. They're recipes and and sauces are made in house and this place truly catches the ethnicity in thai cusine. The owner is super friendly and this is a family business. I haven't tried nething else really on ther menu except their mini super declicous spring rolls and their flavored aloe vera drinks (yum) I wish this place was more known as u could simply see the potential in this business. Definitly a thumbs up.

I was recommended to come check out this amazing restaurant by a very sweet lady saying it was the best place in town.
I have yet to dine in but have gotten take out twice already. The owner (a young guy named tom) has been nothing but polite and has made each experience wonderful. Hes always dressed in his suit, which is typically very out of the ordinary for any Asian restaurant. The one thing I would have to say is that this place deserves to be in a better location than it is currently located. It's tucked in a stripmall by the value village by the traffic circle off of the 97th, blocks from nait and across from the Boston pizza.
My second visit, I went in to order some take out again and this time I was greeted by name.
The sauces are hand made and they use organic ingredients, so you don't get that buzzy msg after effect. It seems to be a family affair, as Tom mentioned that his aunt was in the kitchen.
When you check this place out, I would definitely recommend their salad rolls and a potato curry stew they have! It is unbelievable.
