Travellng through Lake Louise we were in desperate need of a meal -- and after an epic search (yes there are only three restaurants in Lake Louise. no we were not good with directions) we arrived at The Station. It was an excellent oasis of tranquility and delicious food.

The setting: an old CPR station house set in the woods. There is great history here as this used to be the ONLY place you could go into Lake Louise from -- no roads, no planes...only rail. And guess what -- it was right next to the hotel and the brothel! The restaurant has converted the old station into a modern spot with great historical touches.

The food: short menu with local game prepared on an outdoor grill. I had a bison burger which was very tasty and it came with a side salad of caesar. My wife had a grilled chicken on a bun. The food was good and fresh.

The service: very friendly service, personable. Only bad thing is that the grill chef was carrying on a conversation with his girlfriend/other wait staff while cooking.

The view: wonderful -- we could see the trees and mountains from our seat on the patio. Just fabulous.

Overall a good meal and a worthwhile stop in Lake Louise.

Is the Station restaurant open at all, during winter season? We tried it and it looked totally closed for business!

The name of the game here is ambiance, not great food, not exceptional wines, not impecable service. What you get is a beautiful old railway station with Canadian railroad trains rumbling past while you dine on authentic old tables and chairs, surrounded by the memorabilia of a time long past. Go for the scene, the leaded glass windows and the sense of space and place, not for fine dining, eh?!

My wife and I ate here when we were visiting the Park.  The food is very good and the server was great (young Austrian girl).  My wife had the chicken and I had the steak (medium rare of course), however I would try to get there a little earlier next time because it gets busy very quickly.

good to great food but: !!!

Just to highlight our evening at this restaurant,

My wife and children have traveled throughout the world and are aware of standards across various types of restaurants and cultures. For the prices in this restaurant, we expected world class services and found most areas mediocre to substandard.

Our waiter, tonight, needs to return to wait staff training after noting the following observations:

    1) sneering attitude when requesting a seating outside
    2) seemed rushed with each exchange
    3) we requested a split cesear salad: he agreed: and this did not occur, he delivered a salad to me, I had to split and use another plate that was on the table
    4) served my pork disk without appropriate knife
    5) no return during the entire dinner for water refills
    6) informed us of the bread policy 1 item per customer: I could not find this 'policy' on any menu or on the information outside the door, I would like to stated that I have never seen  a "bread limit" this at any rest. in the last 10 years of my  travels of over 2 million miles worldwide
    7) he deposited the table knifes in a cluster in the middle of the table for us to self distribute
    8) he handed the plate with my food directly to me, leaning over the back of my son, and did not place the plate on the table, this same pattern of food delivery occurred for some of the other people in my family
    9) he handed the drinks to us directly to then have us place the glasses on the table

More to the list: but I am on vacation and wish to retire at this late hour.
