I used to go here quite often when I lived in the north shore, they had wonderful tapas, and the flamenco was fantastic. The place would be packed, with little candle lit tables and a wooden plank in the center of the restaurant would be the stage for the flamenco dancers, who would dance to a man playing spanish guitar.
The food was great and I loved that there were so many spanish-speakers there - it felt like home.
During lunch time it's just soup & sandwich, it's dinner where they actually shine. Great paella, and chorizo.
Unfortunately, they no longer do the flamenco nights. I don't know why they cancelled it, it seemed like a moneymaker to me, the place would be packed. It's a shame, there's nowhere else that I know of that does it, so they would have had a fantastic edge.
The food is still great though! -

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The worst restaurant experience I've ever had was at this restaurant, and I'm not just exaggerating to make a point.
My friend was performing as part of a comedy show that was taking place at La Zuppa. Naturally, a group of us went to see the show and support our friend. When we got there the place was pretty busy with people there to see the show, so we were seated outside. We could still see and hear the show through the front window so that was totally fine with us, and the menu looked great, so we all ordered drinks and perused the menu.
After placing our drink orders, we waited... and waited, and waited, and waited. Our drinks did not come for a good twenty minutes. We knew the place was busy, so tried to be patient, but we looked inside and saw that the owner and chef, and the ONLY waitress that he had staffed for the night, were both chilling by the bar enjoying the show. Things only headed downhill from there.
Our drinks finally came and we ordered food. Again, we were left waiting for ages, this time another forty-five minutes or so. Our drinks were soon empty, but the waitress never bothered to come outside to check on us. When she finally came back with a few of the plates, she forgot the cutlery, and rushed off before any of us could remind her. We figured she would be back with the rest of our orders and bring the cutlery then, but we were wrong. By the time we flagged her down and she brought the cutlery to our table, the food had gone cold. So some of us tried to enjoy the cold food, while the rest of our table eyed our plates hungrily. And again, throughout our wait, we regularly peeked in and saw our waitress and the owner/chef laughing at the bar, service the farthest thing from their minds.
When the waitress finally came back with the rest of our orders, nearly ninety minutes after they'd been ordered, one of our friends started laughing hysterically. He had waited so long to receive what was literally a flaming sausage on a plate. We started laughing with him, because despite the abysmal service we were all still in good spirits. Apparently it had been a mistake to point and laugh at the flaming sausage, because that's when the owner/chef came storming out. I wish I was making this up.
The owner/chef approached our table and asked how we had enjoyed our evening. My friend, who is very ladylike and tactful, said to him politely but matter-of-factly that while the food was very good, it was unfortunate that the service had been so terrible, as we couldn't enjoy the food as it should have been enjoyed. When she gave the example of the waitress forgetting the cutlery and not bringing any until our dishes had grown cold, the owner/chef put his face literally a foot away from my friend's face and started screaming at her.
He launched into screaming tirade about how rude we were to have laughed at his sausage dish, how we had been terrible, unreasonable customers with crazy expectations. We all sat there in stunned shock as he raged at my friend, who is a tiny, 5'2" tall, 100 pound woman, spit flying in her face. When he was finally finished, he began storming back into the restaurant but the rest of us jumped in with examples of how the service had been terrible. We told him how we waited twenty minutes just for drinks and to have our orders taken. One person, who had only ordered a slice of cake, asked him how it took 45 minutes to cut a slice, put it on a plate, and bring it to her.
The owner/chef came back to yell at us some more. He screamed that we were all idiots who didn't know anything about running a restaurant. On the contrary, a few of us had experience in the restaurant industry and we told him so. He refused to accept any criticism, despite the fact that he was the one who had solicited our opinions about our dining experience. Finally he lit a cigarette, told us never to come back again, and stormed back inside.
We now believe that the man was either drunk at the time, or mentally unstable. I want to emphasize that none of our party were rowdy or loud, no one was intoxicated, and we were all very polite to the waitress despite the poor service. The waitress even came out and apologized after she had witnessed the owner/chef ripping into us, and told us that this kind of behavior was typical of him. It was a truly terrible experience and none of my friends have ever returned to this restaurant. -

I had heard from friends that flamenco nights at La Zuppa are really great. (two night per month ... I think) So, I took my sister there on her birthday with two of her friends.
I agree that it is a small restaurant, but the owners were very friendly. The dancer was phenomenon and the singer/guitar player also wonderful and let's not forget that the food was enjoyable. Although, if you are a vegetarian, you may have only 1 option on the menu which is still better than nothing. Much better than nothing because it was yummy. I don't remember the name of the dish, but it was melted cheese on garlic bread with some vegetable and tomato flavour in between.
And yes, for flamenco nights you have to order food, not just a drink. It's their policy.
We ate and ate and clapped and clapped for the dancer. If there is anything I wished to be different about this place, would be its size. We left (because they were closing) and drunkenly waked home.
We were all feeling cheered up the next day from the nice experience already. -

If this is the last place on earth to eat, I'd rather starve to death. I was watching the world cup games there, but they asked me to leave because I only ordered a coffee and some snack, not to mention I was sitting at the bar!
