Review from Kris L.
This restaurant is located inside an old mansion, so the layout is pretty cool. There's outdoor seating in the front and there's tons of rooms on several floors inside where you could be seated. We were seated in one of the rooms on the second floor. Service was excellent.
I got the Caeser salad to start. Then chicken with spaghetti. That wasn't that great. My chicken was really dry. For dessert, we had a chocolate brownie, which was pretty good!
I probably wouldn't go back for the food, but the building itself is really cool. -

*cracks knuckles*
I can describe the food in two words: "cafeteria food". As for the service, it was amateurish at best. Now -- I don't know if our terrible experience at La Vieille Maison du Spaghetti was commensurate with the fact that we were part of a tour group, i.e. dining at a discounted group rate. On one hand I hope so, because it would mean that they do provide good food and service at any other time; on the other hand I hope the hell not, because that would mean that they're assholes.
My mom and I were seated in a room that had recently been vacated by what I suspect was another tour group. We asked for napkins twice before we got them; a water glass was missing, and a fork was dirty. Two big tables were left uncleared through the appetizer, the soup, and well into the entree. Eventually we asked to be moved because we felt like we were eating at a dump. I understand that things get busy when large groups show up to eat at a restaurant, but in that case there's only one solution: you haul ass. It's not like we didn't make things easy for them, either; our meal was pre-set except for the main dish.
Speaking of the meal, I should probably address the food:
We started with two small, thin triangular slices of liver pâté. Well, my mom did; I was only served one slice for some reason. I pointed this out to the server and my plate was replaced with a two-slicer. The pâté was presented on a bed of sad, sad looking lettuce that I made sure to steer clear of. And a wedge of tomato. As for the taste, it was passable. It didn't taste any better or worse than canned pâté you'd find in French supermarkets -- although I admit that I'd have much preferred canned pâté.
Next up: carrot and turnip soup. It didn't taste bad at all but it wasn't spectacular either. It was soup. It was warm. It did the trick.
While most other people in our group had lobster, my mom and I opted for the filet mignon but we had no idea what the sides would be. Not knowing what the name of the restaurant was, imagine my surprise when the hunk of meat came out with spaghetti! There was some mushroom sauce coating the lot, and a side of colorful veggies: diced green beans, carrots, and corn. Now it -really- felt like a cafeteria.
We'd asked for the meat to be medium-rare; it came out perfect. It was tender but unfortunately pretty tasteless despite the mushroom sauce.
For dessert, everyone was served a piece of chocolate cake that I could only describe as failed brownie. It wasn't bad, but the texture wasn't ideal.
Overall I'd give the food a 2.5 star rating purely for edibility. The poor upkeep of tables, the pitchers of ice water sitting out in the open for extended periods of time (until diners arrive to drink them), and the god-awful service with absolutely zero hint of a smile or eye contact are what earn this establishment a single, solitary star.
Maybe they figured their tip was included in the group rate so they didn't have to work for it, but that's a sure-fire way to not have any of us return on any subsequent trip to Quebec.Listed in: EH?!

Pretty weak pasta dishes that were not warm enough. It was my first and only time there and it was as I expected... I should have argued to go somewhere else!
