Personally, I like nosy staff, not creepy staff but helpful, motherly types. I recently purchased something I've wanted for years - silk pajamas, and the quality is there. Their swimsuits can be cute, on the rare occasion - this season had one with navy and white stripes with yellow ties that would've been cute... if it was for my body type. Like all stores, you need to be selective with what you buy, and not all seasons offer something, but I find LVER has good quality sleepwear and underwear. It actually has soft and comfortable fabric that I can see myself enjoying, and the quality is there - it's not gonna fall apart any time soon (cough cough La Senza...) For affordable and likable lingerie and underwear, the Bay and LVER are the only places I really even consider in Vancouver.

    Okay, this place is awful.

I walked in looking for a nice lacy bra to wear under some of my more sheer simple shirts.

I walked in and thought I'd do a once around just to see if I saw anything. Then when I couldn't see a single bra that wasn't going to make my boobs into torpedos I went to the woman who clearly worked there, who was folding underwear, to ask her for suggestions.

I clearly ruined her day. She huffed and dropped the stack of skivvies she was folding and without making eye contact sighed and said "what".

I was looking for a lacy bra with no underwire, nothing fancy, just a bra. Well, I was rudely told that "bras without underwire don't exist". I felt like flashing her and asking if she could see my breasts given that I was wearing an underwire free bra.

Anyway, awful. It's the second time I've tried to go in there to find something. I wont make that mistake again.

Ever feel like you're being stalked? Like every step you take, someone is watching you? If you haven't, just take a little browse through La Vie En Rose. You'll immediately feel that awkward, slightly frightened sensation that comes from knowing you're being followed.

Go ahead, try touching a soft bath robe or fuzzy slippers. Maybe run your hands over a rack of lacy lingerie or pick up a something frilly. Feel the eyes tracing your every step? Take a step the left, a step the right. Feel the shadow move with you? What, too much? Does this feel like the beginning of a horror flick? *shiver*

I couldn't take it. I left before I might actually like something enough to try it on. If those prying eyes were following me on the sales floor, I can only imagine what it feels like in the fitting room.

There are more than a few reasons why I am not a fan of La Vie En Rose. The first involves the lingerie in and of itself, which consists mainly of low-quality polyester/nylon/mystery fabric paired with Euro-trashy designs. I abhor even using that term, Euro-trash, but honestly, that is what comes to mind when I step into La Vie En Rose. The other thought I have is, 'oh! so this is where the ladies come to find their ahem, Halloween costumes...!'

You can find inexpensive lingerie, robes, sleepwear and swimwear here and the choices are endless, but the overall design and quality is very much lacking. I have a friend who worked for La Vie en Rose for many moons, and she might not be happy with what I am going to say next but that is the risk I am willing to take: the staff, at this particular store, are the type that look you up and down before commenting on what works best for you or they simply offer their opinion where one is certainly not welcome or needed. I am sure you understand what I am getting at here and my apologies go out to said friend, for I know she is not of this type, but it had to be said!

Besides the uncomfortable points I have mentioned, the store space itself is very cramped and often run amok with merchandise, making the entire shopping experience even less thrilling than expected. Sorry La Vie, I will not be coming back unless I need a cheap corset for my next costume....ahem.

Yeah... meh. Standard stuff, much of it overly padded and frilly (fine lingerie should subtly enhance the figure, not completely obliterate it), synthetic and slightly cheesy. Good if you're on a budget. Not for serious lingerie addicts.

My husband and I were in BC 2/05 of course when I was 5 months pregnant so I had to shop for my pregnancy. This place has some good stuff in here. Next time I'm in BC I will be getting my shop on. The store was pretty small and a little crampy for all the items they have.
