I give this place a 3 because I think it has potential despite not having a good meal here recently. This classic Italian restaurant is fairly new to St. Boniface - open since late Fall 2010. It's located on Provencher in a converted house; I liked the warm intimate feel of the restaurant. The decor is modern with light touches of pictures. There are 2 main dining areas with a smaller area for 2 tables of two near the kitchen.

They were obviously understaffed with a nearly full house the evening I was there. Service was a tad slow initially but once the food order was in, things moved more quickly.

You can order pastas ($16-$21) or other entrees ($15-$28) with most items in the low $20 range. All the dinner items comes with bread, a basic salad with balsamic vinaigrette, and seasonal veggies. The bread was nice and soft served with butter. The salad was described as a mixed baby green salad though we received only red leaf lettuce. The salad was nice and light though nothing notable to mention.

The veal scallopine in a marsala wine with mushroom sauce ($21) was not tender and tasted a bit "livery."  The veal chop with lemon and sage ($22) was a little too lemony, which sort of overwhelmed the veal chop. The veal chop was tender, though there was a lot of fat (surprisingly) on the chop so there wasn't much meat to eat after cutting the fat away. The veggies were broccoli and cauliflower - both were cooked and seasoned well. You can choose either roasted potatoes or penne pasta with a choice of any sauce (meat sauces will cost an extra $1.50). The tomato basil was nice and tangy and the penne were cooked perfectly.

The wine list is great as there were about 4-5 selections available in each of the red and white sections; most were about $6 a glass. A great price for wines by the glass with some decent selections.

Service was very nice despite being overwhelmed and the Chef even came out to greet every table including ours. He seemed genuinely interested in feedback. I think this place just needs to find it's groove and will probably turn into a nice little Italian restaurant once a few they work out some of the kinks.

The are also open for lunch with pastas, wraps and sandwiches - with most around $10 with side soup or salad included.
