Walking through Cook Street Village today I noticed the sign for this taco truck and was excited to see that they had vegetarian and vegan options in addition to their meaty choices. I'm an odd duck in that I've spent nearly a year in Mexico but have eaten very few tacos... There aren't a lot of vegetarian taco stands there!
I am happy to report that La Taquisa delivers on the authentic Mexican flavors, even without the meat. My two tacos with rajas (cooked poblano peppers) also came topped with corn, refried beans and a bit of queso. Both the red salsa and the salsa verde were good, and it was nice to see the staff making the corn tortillas by hand in the truck. At $2.50 each the tacos weren't much more than you'd pay on the streets of Zacatecas, but no passport is required to visit La Taquisa. I would definitely return for another light lunch, and I'd like to give their tortilla soup a try too! -

Today I tried their burrito, vegan ragas style! It was filled with poblano peppers with onions, mushroom, corn and of course refried bean wrapped in a gooey tortilla. You can get guacamole for $0.75 extra. It was all so gooey that the veggies all became one and I didn't get any distinct flavors. Perhaps overcooked? Oh well, it was still tasty. Asked for medium spicy but really didn't tasty spicy at all.
Service was friendly and very fast! I love that their meats are Local, hormone and antibiotic free. They have a nice little outdoor spot on cook street... Nice little pitstop for a little snack.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Tortillas made on the fly, these hippies have a good thing going on. A tiny kiosk tucked along Cook St, these cowboys are a unique gem along this trendy strip.
Fresh, bodacious service, and flavours pack a punch!
These rad kids have a winning recipe, please give them a try...
These boys must have been to Mexico... "U boys like Mexico?"

La Taquisa is a great Victoria spin on Mexican food. They make their own corn tortillas for their tacos, but the flour tortillas used for burritos are also fresh, tasty, and better than anything you can get any supermarket or the other Victoria taquerias.
La Taquisa sources their pasture raised-birds for their chipotle/tomato-stewed chicken filling from the Cowichan Bay Farm. The amount of chipotle in the filling varies based on how much spice you like.
The stand provides three vegetarian taco/burrito/quesadilla filling options, in addition to a vegetarian tortilla soup, which I look forward to trying on my next visit.
I should note that La Taquisa is not as inexpensive or as quick as a typical taco/truck, but is still a good value. -

I have only been to the location in Vic West. Supposedly it isn't as good as the one in Cook St Village.
I have had a few things on the menu and find the food adequate for a quick bite. I am not really fond of their corn tortillas though. I usually stick with the burrito now as it is the only thing they serve that fills me up.
I like that they don't use rice and their food tends to taste fresh.
If I had to choose, I would still probably pick Hernandez though due to their commitment to healthy food and hormone free meat.
A good substitute if I can't make it down town for some reason but not exactly an amazing experience. -

I had the tacos from here and they were really good. Really fresh and I like that they used local ingredients as much as possible. The chicken tacos were my favorite.

Awesome taco stand right in the middle of Cook Village. Handmade corn tortillas made right before your eyes. I went on the first "official" weekend and it all tasted really fresh. The only complaint would be that there wasn't quite enough meat, and I couldn't experience the whole flavor of the marinade, but I love the idea and there were a lot of choices on the menu (2 meats + 4 salsas) and vegan options as well. Would go back to try their quesadilla "sandwich".
