Indian places are pretty plentiful in SE Vancouver.  Decided to try this place as it seemed to have favourable reviews.

Parking is available along 49th or Victoria Drive, depending on what direction you're coming from.

The inside was quite clean, and looked quite barren to be honest.  There was a drinks fridge, a drinks rack (curiously containing the same drinks as the fridge), 3 tables, and a juice table.  There were 2 guys in the back, and a guy in front.  There were maybe 8 seats at most, and we're talking about the entire restaurant, not 1 table.

I saw a MasterCard sticker, but didn't test this one one.

My friends and I decided to split some dishes.  So I got a pretty decent sample of the menu.

Palak chicken ($10) - looked like green mush, but don't look that fool you.  Lots of flavour, but not too spicy.  Served with delicious rice.

Prawn chili masala ($18) - oh wow this one had a kick.  Prawns seemed reasonably fresh.  Served with 4 giant pieces of naan bread.  They really didn't skimp on this one.  Served with a "salad" consisting of a wedge of lime, onions covered with spicy sauce, and some really bitter pieces of turnip.

Fish pakora ($12) - I thought this was a a really good deal.  Some 22 pieces of deep-fried ling cod.  Solid fish.  Also served with that weird salad, but also with 2 little tubs of tartar sauce and this sweet green chutney.  The owners noticed me taking photos and even helped me to arrange the dish, saying it was important to include the salad in the picture as well.  Had a good laugh.

Overall I felt the value was pretty good, and I was happy with the service.  Recommended.

I love Vancouver because every once in a while you can enter a business and be transported away from here. Wait -that didn't come out right. Let me try again. I love Vancouver's diversity and access to authentic cuisine.

When I travel and find myself in a residential neighbourhood I love going into the shops & restaurants that cater to the locals. The kind of place where there's a chance you won't receive exactly what you meant to order. But more often than not you receive something unexpected and invariably better. This place reminds me of my travels when I manage to escape the sanitized touristy neighbourhoods.

This is the closest to homemade Indian food. (Actually a lot of food we call Indian is actually Punjabi.) Sneak a peek into the kitchen and you will see someone who looks like someone's grandparent standing over a stove making your sauce from scratch. A lot of places make their sauce the day before or in the morning, freeze it and warm it up when it's time to prepare the dish. That's not how they do it here and it shows.

This place is no frills, the service is informal, and the furniture looks like it came from the Value Village down the street but who cares? The food is amazing.

I pretty much order whatever I'm in the mood for. Their menu is basically a couple of suggestions on the back of their business card.

Ive been here more than once for their samosas, and I have to say that theyre probably the greatest snack this street has to offer. Not only are they incredibly reasonably priced, they're seasonably delicious! and feasibly the best deal on samosas in the city! For less than a dollar per chicken samosa, you HAVE to at least TRY one.

And after reading the other reviews, I think I will give their other food a chance, although perhaps not fish and chips. They specialize in East indian cuisine, not East coast! For shame to get the most common item on their menu!

It's the real deal.  Owner isn't the most personable person, but it doesn't really matter, I think most people go here for the take out.  Take out plate that feeds about 2-3 people is anywhere from 9-12 on avg.  Naan, which is really good, is $2 and so is 2pc chicken samosas.  I think the Naan and samosa are made to order because we had to wait 15 min.  Best Indian in the area.  (well relatively small area)

La Tandoori is a great place for Indian take out.  Very Impressed.

Great fish and vegetable pakoras, awesome naan bread made fresh on the spot.
Butter chicken is very rich but lacks meat.

Service needs work,  a little slow even if you order in advance.

Great Indian food at reasonable prices. The chicken samosas are delicious. I've tried most of the non-vegetarian options. The currys are very good, cooked with fresh ingredients, and taste like home-made (they ask you how hot you want it). The lamb curry has boneless meat with little fat compared to another take-out place I know, the lamb curry there has a lot of bones and fat. The portions are also big. The only thing is many of the dishes have similar taste. They seem to be using the same basic spices and sauces. The naan doesn't taste fresh though. Overall, a great place for Indian take-out.

Interesting place.  Not the snazziest decor or service.  Very authentic and delicious food though.   (see pictures)

The fish and chips were seasoned with some masala spice.  Very interesting.  Makes a nice change from just simple batter.  But if you weren't expecting it, or didn't like any spice, it probably wouldn't be your thing.

Three of us shared an order of the fish & chips along with the Tawa Chicken Tikka Masala and Kalwa (sp?) - a delightful type of naan bread filled with spices.

Presentation isn't this place's forte.  Tasty food is.  We've decided this is the perfect place for us to get some great take-out.

The rating for this restaurant is a combined score.
First off, their samosas and pakora get four stars for being cheap and very, very tasty. 50 cents a peice for samosas, $5 a pound for pakora. Both typical prices, but so very tasty and so very filling!
Also, the staff are very nice and deserve four stars. The awning states that the place is "take-out only" but in fact there are 4 or 5 small tables and it is a very nice place to relax and enjoy your lunch in near complete privacy (the workers will usually go to the back or hide behind the counter, and there is rarely anyone else in there.)
Sadly, I cannot say much for the dinner menu. The prices are a bit high, but my boyfriend and I decided to try it out anyways. We ordered the chicken vindaloo and a rice dish. In other restaurants this has been one of my favorite dishes, but both of us were very disappointed with the spicing this time around. The flavour and price of the dinner items definitely had to bump the rating down.
So, if your ever in the neighborhood and need a quick bite, I fully recommend grabbing it at La Tandoori. If your looking for a full meal, well, not so much.
